Hello and welcome to our second email newsletter for Landlocked Music. (Our favorite store in B-ton, we hope its in your top ten?) Lets jump right to it: --------------------------------- We have new releases! Available today, March 21st: (Apologies to all the websites I pulled these reviews from... ) Prince - 3121 (CD) Need we really say anything more? The man in purple is back. And if you saw his performance of "Black Sweat" on SNL a few weeks ago you are already in line to pick this up. Liars - Drum's Not Dead (CD/DVD) Recorded in a former East German radio facility, their latest contrasts atmospheric drone melodies against percussive workouts in the vein of avant-luminaries like This Heat. Quasi - When The Going Gets Dark (CD/LP) Portland indie-pop mainstays, Quasi, return with more singable psych-pop gems. Band of Horses - Everything All the Time (CD) Ex-Carrisa's Wierd members Ben Bridwell and Mat Brooke are back in the saddle. Unlike their previous group's slow, brooding pop, Band of Horses goes for indie grandeur, with big arrangements and soaring vocals. Think The Shins meets Built to Spill and The Flaming Lips meets My Morning Jacket. Sublime sunshine pop with substance. Mates of State - Bring It Back (CD) Everyone's favorite melodic and married duo, Mates of State, are back with more sticky sweet power-pop hooks propelled with organs and lushly layered guitars. "Bring it Back" brings back the urge to sing indie rock in the shower. Mclusky - Mcluskyism (2CD/3CD) In 2005, Mclusky disbanded and some members went off to pursue a new band, Shooting At Unarmed Men. "Mcluskyism" is the definitive career spanning collection of songs that brought you more feelings than you even knew existed. Loose Fur - Born Again in the USA (CD) Listening to the licks a-flyin' and cowbells a-ringing, it's clear that 'Born Again In The USA' is more the work of a full-fledged rock band than the first Loose Fur album - which isn't to say that Kotche (Wilco), O'Rourke (Sonic Youth) and Tweedy (Wilco) didn't bother to weave the ever-lovin' kitchen sink into this brand-new sonic tapestry. On the contrary...for their second coming, they gave everything they had - because our modern way of life hangs in the balance! Howe Gelb - 'Sno Angel (CD) Howe recorded ‘Sno Angel with the help of a Canadian gospel choir called Voices of Praise, but this is not gospel music, in theme or in content. Howe describes the album's goal: "it was a grand experiment to see if we could mesh the sounds of the muck I make with the dizzying effect of the glorious sound [the choir] makes." Madlib - Beat Konducta Vol. 1 & 2 (CD) Madlib drops this dope instrumental score for an imaginary film. New, original tracks have been crafted from the same beat CDs which he has used as the foundation for many of his productions, including recent Madvillain, Quasimoto and Jaylib records. Television Personalities - My Dark Places (CD) "My Dark Places" is the legendary Television Personalities' first album in eleven years. Many fans thought vanished singer Dan Treacy was dead, but he was very much alive… in prison. Upon his release, he recorded these songs. Cocteau Twins - Lullabies for Violaine (2x2CD / 4CD) 'Lullabies to Violaine' is subtitled 'Singles And Extended Plays 1982 - 1996' which pretty much sums up this Cocteau Twins release on 4AD. For the first time all the non-album tracks from across the Cocteau Twins' entire career have been compiled together and offer a unique view of the band's musical journey from the perspective of all their single / EP releases which incorporate most of their best known tracks. We also have new releases from Richard Ashcroft (the Verve), Royksopp, Ben Harper, My Chemical Romance, Dale Watson and more more more that I've somehow forgotten... --------------------------------- We also have still fresh CDs from Stephin Merritt, Neko Case, Mogwai, Konono No 1, Cat Power, Stereolab, Ray Davies (the Kinks), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Devo 2.0, Belle & Sebastian, Destroyer, Beth Orton, and much much more! --------------------------------- We still have swanky t-shirts for sale with our lovely logo, too.
