Hi. Remember me? I sell you amazing new music that makes you happy. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 3/25/2007 ------------------------------------------------------------------ (Exact arrival dependent on shipping delays and mishaps, sorry) Justin Townes Earle - The Good Life (Bloodshot) ................................................................... With Justin's pedigree come mixed blessings. As the son of the legendary Steve Earle, high expectations are the name of the game, and he's shown that he is up to the task - crafting stark portraits and narrative tales with elements of blues, classic country and rock n roll. A modern-day troubadour, Earle blends genres seamlessly, framing his songs in warm musical settings and creating tunes that could easily be mistaken for classics. Elf Power - In a Cave (Ryko) ................................................................... Elf Power's ninth album, In A Cave, blasts them past familiar territories and lands them on exciting new terrain. One of their most psychedelic records, it offers thirteen otherworldly tracks of chugging Krautrock rhythms, sing-song pop, and harmonically dense balladry. With In A Cave these seasoned indie rockers find the perfect synthesis of their organic live performances, instinctual ensemble playing and open-hearted experimentation. John Fahey - The Mill Pond EP (Important) ................................................................... The Mill Pond was originally released on vinyl only. This limited edition CD reissue includes the first-ever collection of Fahey's paintings in the accompanying booklet. On this EP, he uses heavy reverb, electric slide, and feedback to create an eerie mood. The Mill Pond is all over the place stylistically, so it should confuse those who try to pigeonhole Fahey into any one category. It further proves that there is only one category into which he fits: truly innovative guitar genius. Ghostface Killah - The Wallabee Champ (Full Clip) ................................................................... The Wallabee Champ is a collection of rarities and non-album cuts that span Ghost's career. Full of raw beats and flowing rhymes and features guest rappers including The Wu-Tang Clan, some of his boys from Theodore Unit including Shawn Wigs and Trife Da God, and a top shelf Rap names Jadakiss, Lil Wayne, Prodigy, Beanie Siegel, Styles P and last but certainly not least, Fat Joe. Gnarls Barkley - The Odd Couple (Atlantic) ................................................................... Following the worldwide, unparalleled critical acclaim for 2006's St. Elsewhere and their record breaking hit Crazy, Gnarls Barkley is set to release their sophomore album. The album features 13 tracks of new material from Danger Mouse and Cee-Lo Green. The first single Run has been met with rave reviews, and the album is without question one of the most anticipated releases of 2008. Head of Femur - Great Plains (Greyday) ................................................................... Head of Femur has stripped down to a more accessible 5-piece. However, the group still manages to stay true to its ambitious trademark sound, lacing together art-rock sensibilities reflective of the Talking Heads and the organic, homegrown feel of Neil Young and The Band. Lemonheads - It's a Shame About Ray [deluxe] (Rhino) ................................................................... On this new 2-disc, CD+DVD edition, the original album plus ten bonus tracks comprise Disc 1. The DVD features 45 minutes of content including videos and commentary from Evan Dando. David Lynch & Marek Zebrowski - Polish Night Music OST (Absurda) ................................................................... A hypnotic musical improvisation on keyboards by accomplished Polish musician Marek Zebrowski and David Lynch. These improvisations were performed at select venues during the Inland Empire theatrical tour in 2007. Morrissey - Greatest Hits [deluxe] (Decca) ................................................................... The ultimate solo career retrospective spanning the years 1988 to the present day, a period where Morrissey hit his commercial and artistic peak. The album features many classic Morrissey tracks and the addition of 2 brand new songs - That's How People Grow Up and All You Need Is Me. Released in 3 versions; the standard jewel box contains 15 tracks, a deluxe limited edition version of the 15 tracks plus an additional 8 live songs and lastly, the double vinyl LP. Plants & Animals - Parc Avenue (Secret City) ................................................................... Like a distant Canadian cousin of Blitzen Trapper, this 3-piece spins shaggy songs into expansive, genre-bending symphonies. Last year's EP hinted at their expansiveness, but it didn't fully prepare listeners for Parc Avenue, a sprawling collection of rootsy melodies, majestic arrangements, and classic rock riffs that owes as much to jam-band psychedelia and it does to delicately orchestrated chamber-folk. The Raconteurs - Consolers of the Lonely (WB) ................................................................... The mighty Raconteurs return with a follow-up to their debut, Broken Boy Soldiers. A self-described "new band made up of old friends," the Raconteurs feature the White Stripes' Jack White and power pop maestro Brendan Benson on vocals, keyboards, and guitars, and the Greenhornes' drummer Patrick Keeler and bassist Jack Lawrence as the group's rhythm section. A Silver Mt Zion - 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons (Constellation) ................................................................... Expanding ever-larger and ever-further away from their roots in Godspeed You Black Emperor, SMZ sounds more like a bunch of classically-trained, crusty pirate punks on 13 Blues than they ever have before. By weaving first-person lyrical stances into their bombastic structures, they manage to be far more emotionally resonant than their more overwhelming compatriots in GYBE. Guilty Simpson - Ode To the Ghetto (Stones Throw) ................................................................... Guilty's solo debut brings him worldwide, while chronicling a life led in the rough-hewn city that birthed him. Featuring a cast of producers normally reserved for those signed to six-figure deals (Denaun Porter of D-12, Oh No, Madlib, J Dilla) Ode to the Ghetto marks an evolution, incorporating a more topical and thought-provoking persona in addition to the extra-savage braggadocio Simpson is known for. A favorite MC of the late great J Dilla, who was also responsible for getting the acclaimed MC signed to Stones Throw. Singer - Unhistories (Drag City) ................................................................... Chicago's Singer is Todd Rittmann (US Maple), Adam Vida (US Maple), Ben Vida (Town and Country, Bird Show) and Rob Lowe (90 Day Men, Lichens). The sound is psychedelic, but not in the paisley way. More mind expanding/modern - get it straight, Singer isn't referencing any past trend in music. Their original idea involves their (very) original compositions tangling with voices stumbling, clucking, heaving, whipping, shrieking and sighing in a graceful jumble. VA - Live From Bloomington 2008 (LFB) ................................................................... As tradition goes, Live From Bloomington is releasing its annual compilation of the very best independent music in Bloomington. Funds will go to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank.
