Its official, you people love springtime. Not even rain prevents you from stopping into Landlocked and saying hello, and we dig that. The naysayers out in the world love to talk about the death of the music industry, blah blah blah. Which is why we are excited to be a part of Record Store Day - a first of a kind event celebrating stores like ours across the nation. We will be having exclusive releases, tons of freebies and more on Saturday April 19th. More info on the horizon... Let us know what chu need - huh! NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 4/1/2007 ------------------------------------------------------------------ (Exact arrival dependent on shipping delays and mishaps, sorry) Annuals - Wet Zoo EP (Canvas Back) ................................................................... The Wet Zoo EP represents the first new batch of Annuals songs to be recorded since Be He Me. The 3 songs featured here will surely whet the appetites of their fans while the band continues to work with Jacquire on their follow-up album. Wet Zoo also showcases two songs from Annuals project Sunfold, which is part of the sprawling Terpsikhore art collective that gave rise to Annuals and features all 6 members of Annuals on these recordings. The Apples in Stereo - Electronic Projects for Musicians (Yep Roc) ................................................................... Fresh off the release of the critically acclaimed New Magnetic Wonder, The Apples are releasing a compilation album that can be seen as the band's follow-up to their '96 comp, Science Faire. The album spans 10+ years and includes music from b-sides and rarities recorded from 1995-2007. It also features 3 previously unreleased tracks: Stephen Stephen, written for and originally performed on The Colbert Report; The Apples in Stereo Theme Song, recorded for the band's website; and the highly anticipated Dreams, a previously unfinished track from 1997's Tone Soul Evolution. Black Keys - Attack & Release (Nonesuch) ................................................................... The Black Keys decided not to go it alone this time; the result of one of the most audacious, and eagerly awaited collaborations of 2008. As producer, they chose Danger Mouse, the mega-eclectic sonic mastermind behind Gnarls Barkley as well as the music industry provocateur who created the mother of all mash-ups, The Grey Album. The Black Keys also deigned to work at an established studio, albeit one within driving distance of Akron. Suma Recording, a legendary spot in north east Ohio renowned for its supply of great vintage gear, provided just the right ambience fort he guys. Los Campesinos! - Hold on Now, Youngster (Arts & Crafts) ................................................................... Debut album from the Cardiff-based 7-piece. Recorded in Canada and produced by David Newfeld (Broken Social Scene) the album is a frenetic mix of Indie Pop inspired by the likes of Architecture In Helsinki, Pavement and Bis. Moby - Last Night (Mute) ................................................................... Moby's 9th album sees the veteran returning to the dance floor. The album features a number of guest vocalists, including MC Grandmaster Caz, one of the writers of "Rapper's Delight", Sylvia from the band Kudu, British MC Aynzli and the Nigerian 419 Squad. "Last Night is basically a love letter to dance music in NYC. What I love about the New York approach to dance music is the eclecticism and the open minded-ness on the part of the musicians, the DJ's, and the people in the bars and clubs. In making Last Night, I essentially tried to take a long 8 hour night out in NY and condense it into a 65 minute long album." Van Morrison - Keep it Simple (Lost Highway) ................................................................... Morrison's first album of new material since 2005, and the first in several years in which he penned all the songs specifically for one album. His music has always incorporated the widely varied influences he heard and absorbed since his childhood days on the streets of Belfast- long before the bands of his youth and his initial breakthrough with Them. On Keep It Simple, Morrison honors all those varied influences - jazz, folk, blues, Celtic, country, soul and gospel - at times melding them all together at once in his own signature sound. R.E.M. - Accelerate (WB) ................................................................... Accelerate, the first studio album in four years from R.E.M., finds modern rock's most acclaimed band returning to the stripped-down, guitar-driven power that first enraptured fans. Helmed by the band and, for the first time, Jacknife Lee, Accelerate puts the group once again firmly behind the wheel of alternative rock, a genre R.E.M. helped invent. Elliott Smith - XO / Figure 8 [LP reissues] (Plain) ................................................................... Really nice, heavy LP reissues of these great, late Elliott Smith titles. Sun Kil Moon - April (Caldo Verde) ................................................................... Mark Kozelek's first original record since the 2003 Sun Kil Moon debut, Ghosts Of The Great Highway. In the spirit of Ghosts and Tiny Cities, Mark was joined by the same players as before, including drummer Anthony Koutsos (Red House Painters), bassist Geoff Stanfield (Black Lab), violist Michi Aceret, and percussionist David Revelli. April also finds Mark in the company of guest vocalists Bonnie Prince Billy, Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), and Eric Pollard (Retribution Gospel Choir). The Sword - Gods of the Earth (Kemado) ................................................................... The Sword is a colossal, high-energy powerhouse. Wielding a potent combination of intense songwriting chemistry, creativity and talent and a distinctly unique vision, The Sword is, without question, one of heavy music's most electrifying and looked-to new bands. More ambitious, more accomplished and simply bigger, Gods of the Earth's huge, mountaintop-friendly hooks, thunderous drumming and oceanic bass lines cut through the air like a scythe, while the ominous vocals of frontman J.D. Cronise weave fantastical tales rife with myth and mythology. Unwed Sailor - Little Wars (Burnt Toast) ................................................................... Innovators in instrumental rock since their debut in 1998. From beginnings in various post-punk and hardcore bands, including Roadside Monument, Johnathon Ford's Unwed Sailor exhibits that wild power with the restraint of a seasoned musician and performing veteran. Their signature sound is based around Ford's leading bass melodies, melodic string keyboard arrangements, intricate groove oriented rhythms, and sparkling chime like guitars. VA - Bollywood Steel Guitar (Sublime Frequencies) ................................................................... The most comprehensive collection to date of Steel Guitar pop instrumental music from India. All 21 tracks featured here were Film hits from 1962-86 and all the masters of the steel guitar sound from the period are represented: Van Shipley, Kazi Aniruddha, S. Hazarasingh, Sunil Ganguly, and Charanjit Singh. An entirely different approach that rocks, swings, and grooves through some of India's most beloved film tunes, the electric steel guitar as lead instrument transforms the already infectious melodies into a multitude of higher sound dimensions. VA - Shadow Music Of Thailand LP (Sublime Frequencies) ................................................................... A broad term given to the Thai guitar pop movement of the 1960s and the groups that came out of it, all under the profound influence of early Western rock and roll. Traditional Thai melodies were given the Shadow treatment; incorporating rock, surf, a-go-go, exotica, soul, blues, Latin and other worldly styles of the times. Inventive compositions and instrumental genius meet the occasional odd vocal arrangement and the results range from plaintive guitar and organ-driven lullabies to full-blown electric garage folk-psychedelia!
