Before we get into holiday business, this is the last time we will remind you: Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings: Live @ Jake's this Saturday night - 12/6. Get your tix at LL now - they are sellin like hotcakes. You will NOT be disappointed, all your friends will tell you what an amazing show you missed! The feel good event of the year! Guaranteed. Jus'doit! Landlocked's Incredibly Fantastic Trade-in of Unwanted Presents (or LIFT-UP) Maybe you saw us in the Black Friday edition of the Herald-Times? If not here is the deal: You have holiday time with the family - Gramma, bless her heart, gives you a Mall-Wart gift card as a present. You were hoping for hot new music from us. Here is where we save the day - Trade in your gift card* for credit at Landlocked Music! We will use it for stuff we need - lightbulbs, toilet paper, soap - and you get sweet new jamz! We do not trade for fruitcake, ugly sweaters, ticklish plush creatures, blankets with sleeves or neckties. Only gift cards. * Yes, there's a catch or 3: (1a) The gift card must be from a chain competitor - we don't trade on other indie stores' gift cards because we encourage you to support them too. (1b) Sorry, but we cannot accept gift cards from Circuit City. (they're going out of business) (2) The gift card's value must be verifiable via phone or the internet. That means that we can only accept a card if it has an 800-number or website where the value of the card can be confirmed - see the back of your card if you're not sure. (3) The competitor's gift card must not expire for at least 6 months from the date of exchange. That's it! Lastly, if you'd like your end-of-the-year list considered for our year-end edition, start prepping it now, we are taking submissions soon! Expect a full gift guide in a couple weeks. But now, your limited new releases: ................................................................... NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 12/2/2008 (Exact arrival dependent on shipping delays and mishaps, sorry) ................................................................... The 88 - Not Only... But Also (Island) ................................................................... Like their music, The 88 have traveled an eclectic road to Not Only...But Also, their debut for Island Records. Using an organic combination of old and new school in their approach to music and its marketing, the band's catchy rock melodies have found a growing audience through TV, film and commercial placements as well as virally online. The LA-based group has been attracting attention since forming in 2003. Tirelessly playing the local scene as well as opening nationally for acts like Matt Costa and dates with Rilo Kiley and Smashing Pumpkins, The 88 once served as the late Elliott Smith's back-up band by personal request for a memorable Orange County performance after serving as openers. Fennesz - Black Sea (Touch) ................................................................... Black Sea is the much-anticipated new album from Christian Fennesz, his first since Venice (2004), about which Stylus Magazine's Nick Southall wrote: "Fennesz does with sound what Stan Brakhage did with film, altering its very fabric and texture, employing disorder and error as forms of communication and expression. He forces you to learn a different method of perception and interpretation, to look beneath the chaos that seems to govern the movements of life and find the patterns beneath." Flying Lotus - LA EP 2 / 3 (Warp) ................................................................... The second installment in Warp's series of super scarce Flying Lotus twelves is upon us, bursting at the seams with remixed goodness from some of the world's finest beat jiggers, Martyn, Ras G, Nosaj Thing, Samiyam, Mike Slott and Soundmurderer. These are criminally limited too so if you're after one, get in yesterday! Mark Kozelek - The Finally LP (Caldo Verde) ................................................................... Over the years Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon and Red House Painters has gained well deserved praise for his extraordinary songwriting. At the same time he has developed a parallel reputation for his unique covers. Many of these tracks were recorded for tributes that are now unavailable. This collects them in a cohesive, 10-song album. Highlights include a country-tinged version of "Lazy" by Low, "Bedtime Lullaby" from the children's show Yo Gabba Gabba! and an intimate, acoustic version of Stephen Sondhiem's "Send In the Clowns" recorded for the Minneapolis Bridge Disaster Benefit CD. The album also includes radio show rarities, a previously unreleased version of Husker Du's "Celebrated Summer" and two original instrumentals. Noot d'Noot - Goofer Dust (Megaforce) ................................................................... Eleven members strong, Noot d'Noot explodes the bridges between Atlanta's psychedelic garage scene and its already deeply entrenched crunk party crews. Featuring Bimbi Smoofus Thomas of Atlanta post-punk faves The Selminaires. Their sound is as if a vintage Funkadelic jammed with Fela Kuti and Hawkwind and the whole shebang was remixed by Air. Check it out in our listening station! Rats - s/t LP (Mississippi) ................................................................... Formed in 1979 by Fred Cole from the 1960's garage rock band The Lollipop Shoppe. Cole played guitar and sang, his wife Toody played bass and sang, and initially Rod Rat played drums. Their sound was a raw mix of punk rock and garage rock with occasional country touches. Mississippi Records is the first to reissue this pre-Dead Moon classic. Sad Horse - North Portland Music Series Vol. 2 7" (Mississippi) ................................................................... Well-loved punk duo - somewhat spazzy, lo-fi and a good time. Six songs at 45 RPM. Includes an incomplete Mississippi Records catalogue. Limited edition of 500. The Telescopes - As Approved by the Committee LP (Bomp) ................................................................... This album compiles some of the band's earliest and best work, with material mostly out of print (and all of it previously unreleased in the USA), which originally appeared, with frequent chart success, on labels like Creation and What Goes On. The Telescopes were among the most innovative and challenging yet successful artists in Creation Records' "middle period", a leading part of the wave of sonic experimenters who included Spacemen 3, My Bloody Valentine, Spectrum and Spiritualized. Part of the British shoegazing movement given impetus by the Jesus and Mary Chain and spearheaded by MBV, the Telescopes' sound borrowed from those two bands while adding their own garage punk flavor, experimenting with violins, trumpets, and dynamic contrasts. Paul Weller - Weller at the BBC (Yep Roc) ................................................................... A stunning 74-track, digitally-remastered, 4-CD hard-back book set of BBC sessions and live concert tracks from 1990 - 2008. Fully sanctioned and overseen by The Modfather himself, the set is a detailed and meticulously archived record of some of the most fruitful, groundbreaking years of his career. CDs 1 & 2 feature key session tracks from 1992 - 2008, including 40 unreleased versions, many with interview snippets and song introductions by Paul. Songs are presented in full band versions as well as in solo, acoustic settings. CDs 3 & 4 feature 34 of the best live concert tracks from six BBC-recorded shows from 1990-98. The 64-page booklet houses extensive liner notes as well as never before published interviews with Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Bobby Gillespie, Tim Burgess, Steve White and others. Neil Young - Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House 1968 (Reprise) ................................................................... Now greet the arrival of 'Sugar Mountain- Live At Canterbury House 1968,' another singular installment in the continuing Neil Young Archives Performance Series. On this CD+DVD set, recorded in Ann Arbor, MI, November 9-10, just days before the release of Young's self titled solo debut, one of the greatest singer-songwriters in rock history is heard solo and acoustic at the height of one of the must tumultuous and creative periods ever experienced both in music and culture. Lost of solo version of Buffalo Springfield favorites, too! The Vinyl Solution ...................................................................
