Vive la France and Happy Bastille Day! The day when people around the globe wear berets, act like mimes, snub eachother while smoking a copious amount and drink wine and eat fancy cheese all day. We're just joshin', we love them frogs! No one in town stocks more Serge Gainsbourg than us, we've even got the poster next to the counter. In new release news, come grab the new Jack White project - Dead Weather - and get a free print w/ purchase of CD or LP! And we are also super stoked for the repress of the Galaxie 500 LPs - NICE! ................................................................... NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 7/14/2009 ................................................................... Beastie Boys - Ill Communication [reissue] (Capitol) ................................................................... Beastie Boys Ill Communication digitally remastered for the first time, overseen by the band. The CD and digital configurations include a bonus disc of b-sides and rarities- also remastered. The original artwork has been faithfully restored in this 8-panel eco-friendly 2-CD set with fold-out poster/lyric sheet. Also available as a 180 gram 2 LP gatefold vinyl set. Clutch - Strange Cousins from the West (Weathermaker) ................................................................... The first new Clutch studio release in over two years. Strange Cousin's From The West is the band's 9th studio effort, and second with producer J. Robbins. It's the first original studio release on the band's self-owned label, Weathermaker Music. Dead Weather - Horehound (Reprise) ................................................................... The Dead Weather is fronted by Alison Mosshart (known to music fans as one half of London-based rock outfit The Kills) and includes The Raconteurs' Jack Lawrence on bass, Queens Of The Stone Age member Dean Fertita on guitar and Jack White (White Stripes) on drums and vocals. White produced Horehound, which was recorded in just three weeks at the newly constructed Third Man Studio, also designed from the ground up by Jack White. Galaxie 500 - [LP reissues] (20/20/20) ................................................................... For the first time since their original pressing, all three Galaxie 500 LPs are available again on vinyl. Cut by vinyl ace Kevin Gray from a remaster by Kramer and Alan Douches, the album sounds more vibrant than ever, and Galaxie 500 exists again as one of the most enrapturing and glorious bands to emerge from the underground in the past 25 years. Dean Wareham went on to further fame with Luna. Damon and Naomi did their own gorgoues music. Binky Griptite - The Stroll 7" (Daptone) ................................................................... Another slab 'o soul from Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings guitarist/emcee Binky Griptite. In this uptempo cracker about the world's oldest profession, Griptite waxes on the pros of the con and the cons of the pro. The Dap-Kings shift into high gear behind his high-octane vocals, and the energy grows and grows until it reaches a moment of complete frenetic abandonment in the squeals of a horn solo. It collapses back down to a nasty simmer only to climb back up to bedlam again for the finish, making this a perfect go-to platter for the DJ finding themselves in the throws of climaxing dancefloor movement. Monks - Pretty Suzanne 7" (Red Lounge) ................................................................... This is the one to change the history books. We were lead to believe that the Monks, after their LP failed to chart tuned it down and tried a couple more pop tunes bevor vanishing in oblivion. The truth is far from that: Bound by their contract with Polydor, the Monks were unable to develop their music the way they really wanted to. In '67 they went on their own time and money to record this smashing fuzz driven freakbeat version of Pretty Suzanne behind Polydor's back! Trying to screw Germany's biggest record label - it doesn't get more punk than that! Mastered from the original acetate. Most Serene Republic - And The Ever Expanding Universe (Arts & Crafts) ................................................................... The MSR follows a kind of musical continuum. The band's repertoire runs the gamut from prog-rock to densely layered, indie-pop. TMSR harmoniously combine traditional instrumentation with strings, banjos, and digital programming. Hailing from a Toronto suburb, the young septet has performed together for a half dozen years. The band is very much a product of their wide ranging personalities, beginning with Ryan Lenssen's classical piano experience and an obsession with musical history; and singer/lyricist Adrian Jewett's Joycian stream-of-conscious lyrics and larger than life stage personality. The Octopus Project - Golden Beds EP (Peekaboo) ................................................................... Following the spectacular 2007 album Hello Avalanche, The Octopus Project presents Golden Beds: 5 different tunes from 5 different rooms of the neon mansion the band has built. Some are brand new, some represent fresh takes on ideas from the past, but each explores a different facet of their omnivorous sonic creations - from big-riff rock to tiny electronics to blissful sing-alongs. So roll up those shirt sleeves and get ready to dip your arms deep into a kaleidoscopic candy jar filled with tasty Octopus-flavored treats of both the audio and visual varieties. Ty Segall - Lemons (Goner) ................................................................... Burying 60s sing-alongs and dance crazes beneath waves of reverb and giddy thud, Ty has carved out his own shelf in the SF neopsych garage alongside compatriots and collaborators Sic Alps and Thee Oh Sees. After shattering the Bay Area underground as a frantic one-man-band that was devoured by the local press, Segall has now given up the solo act for a 3 piece that destroys sonic and melodic boundaries with manic glee. Kurt Vile - Fall Demons 7" (Skulltones) ................................................................... Trippin' the riffs between some catchy freedom rock and Fripptronics, Kurt is back with brand new songs on this single. Last year's CD on Gulcher was a year end favorite as was the limited 12" on Mexican Summer and Hunchback EP. Can he do no wrong, even at this pace? New record out later this year on Matador... looks like he's growing up fast. VA - Meet the Philly Elite (Kraak) ................................................................... 4-way split 7inch with some of the brightest stars of the Philadelphia underground at the moment: Jack Rose, Meg Baird (Espers), Kurt Vile and U.S. Girls. Import only, super limited, now or never. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) ................................................................... -Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti - Loverboy 2LP (Cooler Cat) Recorded back in 2001-2002, Loverboy was originally released as a bonus second disc with the first pressing of the House Arrest album. -Black Sunday Lights - s/t 7" (Red Lounge) Alicja Trout (Lost Sounds, Nervous Patterns, etc.) Melodic, yet aggressive. Mastered by someone from the Devo circles and has all kindsa weird effects. -James Blackshaw - Glass Bead Game LP (Young God) -William S. Burroughs - Three Allusive Tracks 12" -Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Primary Colors LP [repress] (Goner) -Dead Clodettes - s/t 7" (Florida's Dying) a French all girl band playing Lilipuit/Kleenex style punk. 4 primitive tough punk anthems to beat your deadbeat boyfriend over the head with. -Digital Leather - Fresh Secrets 7" (Red Lounge) -J Dilla - Jay Stay Paid LP (Nature) -Flight - Flowers 7" (Sweet Rot) -Hard-Ons - With Neil Hamburger (Red Lounge) -Yussuf Jerusalem - Heart Full of Sorrow LP (Florida's Dying) A collection of Roky inspired gloomy bedroom folk / psych pop from Paris France. He is doing a US tour backed up by Thomas Function and playing Goner Fest. -Lover! - Let's Play a Game 7" (Red Lounge) More psych pop weirdness from Rich Crook of Lost Sounds, Reatards, etc. Space pop with great guitar effects, rather in the "I'm Not a Gnome" vein. -Lucero - Nobody's Darlings LP (Sabot) -Moon Duo - Love on the Sea 12" (Sick Thirst) -Psychedelic Horsesh!t - Golden Oldies LP (Wasted) -Ty Segall / Black Time - split LP (Telephone Explosion) 7 new tracks from man-on-the-move Ty Segall, including a Dwarves cover! Longtime favorites Black Time check in with 6 songs of their own. All of it awesome. -Serengeti & Polyphonic - Terradactyl LP (Anticon) -Teepee - Heal 7" (Florida's Dying) When he's not playing guitar in Electric Bunnies or Melted Sunglasses, Eric Lopez is recording the one-man drone punk mantras contained on this 7". -Woven Bones - Your Sorcery 7" (Sweet Rot) -VA - Anthology Of Noise & Electronic Music 3LP (Sub Rosa) Also Released This Week (but not necc in stock, ask us!) ...................................................................
