The excitement keeps piling on here at LLM HQ! What now you ask? Here's a list: We are now taking pre-orders for the new Pearl Jam CD/LP. They are releasing this one on their own label, and while the rumor mill swirled that only Target would have this piece, its a lie. Landlocked will indeed have it for sale on 9/22, and a special (better) package than the Target version to boot! There is also a 7inch single ahead of the album - let us know whatchu need! On 09/09/09 the hugely anticipated new Beatles remasters (individual CDs and boxed sets!) will be released (a Wednesday release date, even!). We ALL love the Beatles and there is no better time to fill up your collection because for ONE DAY ONLY on Weds 09/09/09 Landlocked Music will be offering these for only $9.99 each. That is a huge savings, believe it. (White Album and Past Masters don't qualify, sorry.) Each of these come in gorgeous limited edition "soft pack" with expanded booklets including new liner notes and rare photoes. Each album also contains bonus mini-documentary videos as well. Pre-order any or ALL of them today and guarantee you get them for $9.99 on 9/9/09! This coming weekend is the 40th Anniversary of the original Woodstock Festival. We set up a little display highlighting bands that played and have tons of pieces from these artists at prices you just cannot deny. Artists like The Who, Joe Cocker, Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone and much more. Get em while the gettin's good! Matador Records is pleased to announce a new chapter in their Buy Early Get Now program! This time, it is for darlings Yo La Tengo and their new album, Popular Songs. The super-added bonus this time is a Live LP of YLT's soundtrack to Adventureland (as well as bonus mp3s, poster, etc). If you are interested, stop in and fill out the special YLT-BEGN card to get your access today! The only way to get the bonus materials is to pre-order, if you simply want the CD or LP and nothing more, you gotta wait til September 8th. More info at http://buyearlygetnow.com/info/8/ ................................................................... NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 8/11/2009 ................................................................... Bottle Rockets - Lean Forward (Bloodshot) ................................................................... Lean Forward continues the Rockets' creative resurgence ignited by 2006's Zoysia. Reunited with producer Eric "Roscoe" Ambel, the Bottle Rockets do what no other band does better - look into the hearts and minds and faces of the dying small towns in America and crafts populist anthems with the sympathetic eye of Woody Guthrie and sonic stomp of Crazy Horse. They are songs that demand the windows be rolled down and the volume turned up. And with the hooks, you'll wonder how they make such problems sound so good. Box Elders - Alice and Friends (Goner) ................................................................... Box Elders released their debut 7-inch on Grotto Records and spent much of 2008 touring the USA. The fuzzy, off-kilter pop of the record caught the attention of Memphis label Goner Records and earned them a slot at the label's annual music festival, Goner Fest. "Crackles with a kind of rambunctious, infectious pop energy you just can't fake.... One of the most impressive bands at the 2009 SXSW festival." - Tripwire Flying Lotus - LA EP 3 (Warp) ................................................................... The last in the series, L.A. EP 3 X 3, is also the most intriguing, a seven-track suite that features two new songs and a handful of bold recontextualizations (they're more than remixes, really) from friends and fellow leftfield beatmakers from his homebase of L.A. and abroad. Here, in place of the spliced-up Dilla-isms of Los Angeles and his lesser known, but equally strong 1983, Ellison offers a textural ambient piece, music that falls somewhere between the electro-drone of Canadian composer Tim Hecker and the Eastern-tinged blissfulness of Rounds-era Four Tet. - PFM Grizzly Bear - Horn of Plenty LP (Kanine) ................................................................... Finally at long last, the LP version of Grizzly Bear's first album is available! You love The Veckatimest, you adore Yellow House and the Friend EP, now complete your collection with the record that started it all. John Martyn - Solid Air [deluxe] (Universal) ................................................................... Compiled, with John Martyn's blessing and with sleeve notes by Record Collector's Daryl Easlea, John's landmark album from 1973 has now been digitally remastered and expanded into a 2CD set. Disc One contains the original album, considered by many to be his best album, digitally remastered and sounding better than ever. Disc Two contains 12 previously unreleased out-takes, 3 live tracks and the 7-inch single version of May You Never. An essential chill out album combining folk and jazz with a truly original voice and vision. Willie Nelson - Lost Highway (Lost Highway) ................................................................... Lost Highway covers nearly a decade's worth of music from over 12 albums including 3 previously unreleased gems. Encompassing a broad spectrum of musical styles, Lost Highway features an amazing roster of collaborating artists while showcasing Willie's incomparable songwriting as well as his uncanny ability to take classic songs and truly make them his own. Artists featured on this compilation include: Rob Thomas, Lee Ann Womack, Ray Price, Lucinda Williams, Diana Krall, Elvis Costello, Merle Haggard and Shania Twain. Robert Pollard - Elephant Jokes (GBV) New solo album from the prolific singer/songwriter and former leader of Guided By Voices. You want nostalgia? OK, here's some nostalgia. Think music as real and unselfconscious as anything since Same Place the Fly Got Smashed or songs alive with Alien Lanes' aesthetic but even hookier and smarter. Music that sounds just like friends playing for the fun of it in the family basement (so the family's grown up and moved away, it's a different house, and it's not exactly a basement anyway, but I defy one to hear the difference). Reigning Sound - Love and Curses (In the Red) ................................................................... The Reigning Sound backed Shangri-La Mary Weiss on her critically acclaimed comeback album, Dangerous Game, which was produced and largely written by frontman Greg Cartwright. He also produced, penned songs for, and played in The Detroit Cobras for a spell. All the while, Reigning Sound toured the US on and off and released a couple of live albums. All the while, Cartwright stockpiled loads of new tunes. Finally, the band entered Ardent Studios in Memphis and laid down a bunch of songs. Then they went into Echo Mountain Studios in North Carolina and recorded a bunch more. In the end, the band had more than enough for 2 LPs, and whittled it down to the cream of the musical crop. TV Ghost - Cold Fish (In the Red) ................................................................... In The Red is proud to announce the debut full-length album from Lafayette, Indiana, creepers TV Ghost - a band who ushers in a vile and squalid new disposition to ugly art punk and carves out a black hole of pestilence that will delight its sufferers to no end. If one can swim through the murky grime long enough to let one's frazzled senses adjust, it's clear how effectively TV Ghost incorporates the licentious nuances of The Cramps' earliest scuzz, No Wave's cacophony, and Suicide's terrifying throb alongside cavernous bellows from the depths of the third layer of hell. Patrick Wolf - The Bachelor (Bloody Chamber) ................................................................... The Bachelor is a fourteen song album featuring collaborations with Eliza Carthy, Thomas Bloch, Alec Empire, Matthew Herbert and actress Tilda Swinton. He draws on a wide range of songwriting influences, with traditional sounds and arrangements both evident, but also brings a thoroughly modern electronic production to the equation, creating a unique and innovative sound. An intelligent, versatile and textured record, this demonstrates why Wolf is lauded as one of the last great British musical hopes. Free Bonus CDEP w/ purchase! VA - String of Pearls : Jewels of the 78 RPM Era 1918 - 1951 LP (Mississippi) ................................................................... Compilation selected by Baltimore record shop owner Ian Nagoski from his personal collection of obscure international 78s. Nagoski also assembled and annotated the Dust-to-Digital CD Black Mirror: Reflections in Global Musics 1918-1954. Includes music from Constantinople, Milano, Bucharest, Uttar Pradesh, Armenia, Sunda, Thrace, Jamaica, Serbia, Cairo, Huilotita, Seville, Hue, Aleppo, Rajastan, the Carpathians, a Zuni reservation, and more. Full notes, Black Mirror-style, opening with the quote from Gail Holst-Warhaft: "The role of the spiritual intermediary, like the polyphonic character of the lament, affords both license and protection to the individual. The dead may themselves lament through their intermediaries." The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) ...................................................................
