Arctic Monkeys - Humbug (Domino) ................................................................... The 3rd album from Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys finds the band brimming with vim, vigor and new ideas. They brought in a new production accomplice, Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age, Kyuss, Eagles of Death Metal), for some of the recording. He generously hosted and produced tracks with them at his studio. Then they rejoined forces with James Ford, producer of the previous 2 albums to complete the tracks that became Humbug. The album is stunning set of songs both heavier and lush than previous albums but still full of the Monkeys usual punch and vitality. Blitzen Trapper - Black River Killer EP (Sub Pop) ................................................................... As its title would lead one to believe, the Black River Killer EP contains the disturbing and great song Black River Killer from Blitzen Trapper's excellent full-length album Furr. What is perhaps less evident from the title is that it also contains 6 more songs that have been, up to now, only available as a CD that Blitzen Trapper has been selling at their live performances for the past year or so. Catch em October 15th at the Bluebird! Tim Buckley - Live at the Folklore Center, NYC: March 6th, 1967 (Tompkins Square) ................................................................... Tim Buckley was among the most adventurous and influential singer-songwriters of the 60's and 70's, releasing 9 studio albums in his career. Buckley's music continues to deeply inspire new fans and artists with each passing year. 'Live at the Folklore Center', the earliest live recording among several others commercially available, showcases Buckley in an intimate, solo acoustic setting, highlighting his magical guitar playing and soaring vocal style. The entire night's concert, performed in front of about 35 people, is presented in its original running order of 16 songs, six of which are Tim Buckley compositions that have never appeared on any studio or live album. Fun. - Aim and Ignite (Nettwerk) ................................................................... Fun is what happens when 3 extraordinary musicians come together to create something altogether new and wonderful. Nate Ruess, late of The Format, has teamed up with ex-Anathallo instrumentalist Andrew Dost and Steel Train's Jack Antonoff, resulting in their ingenious debut. They meld a stunning array of diverse inspirations - spanning Broadway to Beach Boys, Nilsson Shmilsson to Pinkerton - into an irresistible collection of freewheeling pop songcraft. Fun have crafted something special indeed, a contemporary rethinking of classic 70s pop, where ornate arrangements and inspired orchestrations meet present-day rock. Imogen Heap - Ellipse (RCA) ................................................................... Imogen Heap - singer/songwriter/producer and two-time Grammy nominee - is back with her much anticipated new solo album, Ellipse. Beginning in Hawaii and working her way through Fiji, Imogen has poured her heart and soul into writing her next masterpiece. Ellipse was recorded in her new studio, which she built in her old family home in Essex, UK, and features the lead track "First Train Home." The Heliocentrics - Fallen Angels: The Singles Collection (Now Again) ................................................................... The best songs from Malcom Catto and Heliocentrics 12" singles are compiled here in limited edition CD. Included are tracks such as the DOOM feature "Distant Star" and Guilty Simpson's "Before I Die" alongside a multitude of offerings that span from deep jazz, deep funk and deep psychedelia on the title track, "Vibration Of The Fallen Angels". The collection is presented in a limited edition mini-LP package which includes a thick cardboard tip on sleeve. This album was made primarily for release in Japan; small quantities are being made available for sale in the North America. Includes two bonus tracks not on the digital album. Kitty, Daisy & Lewis - s/t (Downtown) ................................................................... The debut album from teenage siblings Kitty, Daisy and Lewis! The trio are a thoroughbred sensation, playing 40s/50s rockabilly and swing, country and western, Hawaiian and rock'n'roll with a verve, skill and energy that connects them back to the far past and the super-shiny future. Through steely Marconi BBC mics, of course. Between them, the three play guitar, piano, banjo, lapsteel guitar, harmonica, double bass, ukulele, trombone and accordion, even swapping instruments between songs. Matisyahu - Light (Epic) ................................................................... Few artists make an impact as complete as the one Matisyahu made with his Top 40 smash "King Without a Crown": Here was a true original, the song announced - a Hasidic Jewish musician from NYC singing reggae songs about his religious devotion. Light is anything but safe. The 14-track collection covers a dizzying amount of stylistic ground, from hard-edged dancehall and ska-inflected New Wave to laidback pop-rock and acoustic folk-soul. While reggae is far from absent here, Light finds Matisyahu edging away from his comfort zone into more daring territory. Mew - No More Stories (Columbia) ................................................................... New release from the Danish experimental Dream-Pop trio. No More Stories is a towering, masterpiece follow-up to their critically acclaimed breakthrough And The Glass Handed Kites, for which the band picked up two Danish Music Awards including Best Band and Best Album. Willie Nelson - American Classic (Blue Note) ................................................................... American Classic is Willie Nelson's return to the Great American Songbook, a crossover standards album by the man who invented the genre with his landmark, best-selling 1978 album Stardust, which has been certified five-times Platinum by the RIAA. Produced by Tommy LiPuma and featuring guest duet partners Norah Jones on the classic tale of seduction 'Baby It's Cold Outside' and Diana Krall on 'If I Had You.' Patton Oswalt - My Weakness is Strong (Reprise) ................................................................... As a comedian, Patton has released 3 TV specials and 2 acclaimed albums. Currently a series regular on Showtime's United States of Tara, he has also appeared as a guest star on The Sarah Silverman Program on Comedy Central and on Flight of the Conchords on HBO. He's a regular contributor to Countdown with Keith Olbermann, Real Time with Bill Maher and Lewis Black's Root Of All Evil. Patton will also appear in Steven Soderbergh's feature film The Informant and Observe and Report with Seth Rogen. The Postmarks - Memoirs At The End Of The World (Unfiltered) ................................................................... The Postmarks recorded Memoirs themselves in their home studio, taking a collaborative approach to the process. The resulting 13-track album combines the band's proclivity for gritty, atmospheric pop songs with enchanting melodies that draw significant inspiration from film soundtracks. Memoirs is a leap forward for The Postmarks, expressed with ambient textures from dub reggae, horn arrangements from classic soul, and elements of experimentation reminiscent of sounds heard at the birth of electronic music. Smokey Robinson - Time Flies When You're Having Fun (Robso) ................................................................... Motown legend, Smokey Robinson unleashes a new album of original material featuring guests Carlos Santana, Joss Stone and India.Arie lending their estimable musical talents plus famed graphic artist Shepard Fairey's Studio Number One providing the package art. Smokey's newest album will undoubtedly galvanize new fans as well as longtime admirers. Sally Shapiro - My Guilty Pleasure (Paper Bag) ................................................................... New release from the Swedish Europop/Italo Disco sweetheart. My Guilty Pleasure includes collaborations with German Nu-Disco producer Tensnake and Swedish Italo Disco duo Cloetta Paris. Shapiro's music is a blend of 80s inspired Disco and twee Indie Pop: melancholic yet hopeful, sweet yet danceable. The Smiths - LP Reissues (Rhino) ................................................................... Long-awaited LP reissues of the Smiths studio albums. Remastering supervised by Johnny Marr. The Smiths formed in Manchester in 1982 and quickly rose to become the quintessential British indie band of their day. Powered by the collaboration between lead singer and lyricist Morrissey and lead guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr, their sound had a literary and musical depth that was complex, emotional and often controversial-at the same time, it rang with the Smiths' unique twist on timeless melodic pop sensibilities. Still Life Still - Girls Come Too (Arts & Crafts) ................................................................... Formed nearly a decade ago in the Toronto suburb of East York when the band's members had just hit double digits and were barely tall enough to hold up their instruments. Brendon Saarinen (guitar/vocals), Eric Young (guitar/vocals), Derek Paulin (bass), Aaron Romaniuk (drums) and Josh Romaniuk (keys/percussion) have a bond that is instantly exposed with their live performances, which culminate in a pogo-frenzy of fans. Still Life Still's debut album, Girls Come Too, is produced by Martin Davis Kinack and Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene). Luke Vibert - We Hear You (Planet Mu) ................................................................... New release from the artist also known for his work as Plug and Wagon Christ. We Hear You is a genre-defying record that combines his idiosyncratic samples, sweetly strange melody, big bass and sloppy drums. On the album, Vibert connects the dots between Terry Riley, Dubstep Bass, Techno and Hip Hop. Perhaps if Vibert was from LA instead of Cornwall, people's perception of his work would be very different. Maybe if every album he made was as good as this one, that perception might change, too. Regardless, We Hear You definitely goes a long way to address any doubts that Vibert is a producer in a league of his own, making strange and brilliant music. Vivian Girls - Live at WFMU LP (Troubleman) ................................................................... The title says it all. Vinyl version of self released CDR. The best! Wonderful screened covers. Remastered. Edition of 1000. 900 with original artwork, 100 with alternate colors on the covers 50 given to band and 50 given to friends. Vinyl only. VA - Wayfaring Strangers: Lonesome Heroes (Numero Group) ................................................................... Third in Numero's Wayfairing Strangers series, Lonesome Heroes is a yet another deep stab into the world of private-issue folk. Built around male singer-songwriters discovering their inner Cohen and Hardin, the compilation surveys the back roads of the American folk movement in the 1970s. Companion to Numero 008, Wayfaring Strangers: Ladies From The Canyon and Numero 018, Wayfaring Strangers: Guitar Soli. 17 rare tracks and 40 page booklet with extensive photo gallery, essay and artist bios.
