Landlocked's Birthday is Wednesday March 3rd! Born March 3, 2006. I guess that means we are four years old eh? Not too shabby! But tomorrow is not today so you will have to wait one more day for our surprise! Bwahaha... in the meantime - RECORD STORE DAY - mark your calendar for that one, Saturday April 17th. Once again its the same day as WIUX Culture Shock and Boxcar Books Rocknroll Prom, so plan your weekend appropriately. MUCH more soooon. Pit Stop Music Marathon begins this weekend! In case you've been living in a hole, this is 8 straight days of great music at 2 venues. Ten bucks a day, $50 for the full 8 days! Show your support for these great up and coming bands and for Spirit of 68 Promotions, they are helping make our town rad! Zero Boys, Vetiver, Fruit Bats, Times New Viking, Murder By Death, Surfer Blood, Foreign Born, Free Energy, Blue Giant (Viva Voce), Turbo Fruits, The Woes, Left Lane Cruiser, Pomegranates, Metavari, tons of regional and local bands and lots more - whoo! .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 3/2/2009 .................................................. Clogs - The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton (Brassland) .................................................. Four musicians from the U.S. and Australia, Clogs use sounds and textures from across the musical spectrum -the immediacy of folk and rock music, twisted Americana, the complexity of modern composition. The Creatures in the Garden of Lady Walton is their highly anticipated fifth album. It's a song-cycle composed by Padma Newsome for Clogs with guests Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond, Sufjan Stevens, Aaron Dessner and Matt Berninger of The National. Dust From 1000 Years - Marble Memo (Moon Jaw) .................................................. The music of Bloomington's Dust From 1000 Years is analogous to the gently raised middle finger of a wandering mystic. Dreamlike clarity lies within lo-fi-psych-folk-ambience on Marble Memo, Dust's fifth full-length album to date. There is a transcendental and resistant ethos in these sounds; one that refuses to tailor to our fragmented, A.D.D. society, one that feels like a dream. In dreamtime life dances to a tune begins Marble Memo, and the sentiment grows until the album's put to rest. Elephant Micah - Echoer's Intent (self) .................................................. Sometimes local musician Joe O'Connell is really coming into his own lately. "Echoer's Intent critically considers notions of 'training' in the social contexts of fine art, animal husbandry, and areas in between. Characters include an unethical folksong collector, a French schoolboy and his dog Robot, and a migratory game researcher. These minimal, mostly live recordings are the first to fully foreground Elephant Micah as a writing and solo performance project." Peter Gabriel - Scratch My Back (EMI) .................................................. Peter Gabriel's new album project is the first part of a series of song exchanges in which Gabriel and other leading artists reinterpret each other's songs. Includes his interpretations of David Bowie, Paul Simon, Elbow, Bon Iver, Talking Heads, Lou Reed, Arcade Fire, Magnetic FIelds, Randy Newman, Regina Spektor, Neil Young and Radiohead. Golden Triangle - Double Jointer (Hardly Art) .................................................. A band of 3 girls and 3 boys who play music that's loud and spooky, and will make you aroused and ambitious. They fall somewhere along the psychedelic / garage / post-punk spectrum, with two singing ladies who sound like soulful ghosts. Recorded with producer Chris Coady (Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House, Blonde Redhead), Double Jointer has the speed and catchiness of the current garage / weird-punk / lo-fi movement with some profoundly goth under-currents and some no-wave guitar over-currents. RIYL Thee Oh Sees! John Hiatt - The Open Road (New West) .................................................. Looking at life through the rearview mirror was the inspiration for John Hiatt's brand new album, The Open Road. A classic Hiatt record, the rockin songs sizzle with the heat from two-lane blacktop on a summer's day. Hiatt and his touring band recorded a set that gives Garage Rock a new meaning. All the other years, my songs are about coming home, Hiatt says. But within these 11 new songs home is never the destination. Jaguar Love - Hologram Jams (Fat Possum) .................................................. Blood Brothers may have betrayed their blood oath by breaking up, but the spirit of that raucous Seattle act lives on in Jaguar Love. They are comprised of ex-Blood Bros Johnny Whitney (vocals, piano) and Cody Votolato (guitar, bass). Having already caught the eye of Queens of the Stone Age, who took them on tour for a spell last year, Jaguar Love have since inspired the folks at Matador, who released one album and an EP, as well as Fat Possum Records. Shooter Jennings & Hierophant - Black Ribbons (Rocket Science) .................................................. Black Ribbons features a unique collaboration between Jennings and best-selling author Stephen King. The 70-minute concept album sees King provide the voice of Will O' The Wisp, a late-night talk show radio host who is in the last hour of his final broadcast before the airwaves is overtaken by 'government-approved and regulated transmissions.' Little Boots - Hands (Elektra) .................................................. Victoria Hesketh started her career writing songs and posting covers on Youtube and Myspace. The videos soon became an online sensation generating interest from both fans and music executives in the UK. The album primarily features songs about love, relationships, and heartbreak, and takes influence from a variety of music styles such as disco, 1980's pop, and Eurodance. The first two singles, 'New in Town' and 'Remedy', reached the top fifteen and top ten in the UK. Rogue Wave - Permalight (Brushfire) .................................................. A punchy, deceptively effervescent set of multi-instrumental pop tunes, the band's latest set represents a giant breakthrough for Zack Rogue and his longtime musical partner, drummer-keyboardist-vocalist and former Bloomingtonian Pat Spurgeon. Rogue Wave has a reputation for crafting classic, inward-looking pop songs highlighted with psychedelic guitars, pastoral sound effects and intricate rhythms. On tunes from Permalight, however, Rogue Wave steps away from expectations with synths that simultaneously sound brittle and blissful. Ruby Suns - Fight Softly (Sub Pop) .................................................. Fight Softly veers from the path set by the 2008 release Sea Lion. It's not as wide-eyed or lighthearted, picking apart the relationships faced as we pass through the world with our surroundings, each other, ourselves. Sonically, it remains as beat-centric, though these beats are deliciously artificial stretched and compacted and distorted beyond recognition. Melodies are scuzzy and digital, no guitars strummed or basses plucked. McPhun's soulful upper-register croon, swallowed into the mix, replaces group chants and full-throated singalongs. Sarah Silverman - Songs Of The Sarah Silverman Program (Comedy Central) .................................................. The audiences demanded it so here it is! Available for the first time is the soundtrack to the hit Comedy Central show The Sarah Silverman Program. Packed with all of your favorites from "Cookie Party" to "Stepped on a Homeless Man" to "Baby Penis In Your Mind" the album contains songs from all three seasons of the show as well as your favorite quotes in all of their raw, uncensored glory! VA - In a Cloud: New Sounds From San Francisco LP (Secret Seven) .................................................. Preservation Hall Jazz Band - An Album to Benefit Preservation Hall (Preservation) .................................................. Over the last year, more than 20 of American music's most exciting artists traveled to Preservation Hall in New Orleans to collaborate with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on New Orleans repertoire. The end result is a timeless and joyous celebration of New Orleans Music. New recordings from Tom Waits, Andrew Bird, Del McCoury, Yim Yames and more! Johnny Cash - American VI: Ain't No Grave (Lost Highway Records) .................................................. American VI: Ain't No Grave, produced by Rick Rubin, is deeply elegiac, spiritual and is an achingly personal and intimate statement, as, from the end of the line, Cash looks back on a most extraordinary life. The songs are drawn from all over the musical landscape and include Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times," Ed McCurdy's "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream" and the never before heard Cash original, "I Corinthians: 15:55," written over the last three years of his life. Yeasayer - Odd Blood (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. While their first record, All Hour Cymbals, was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. If All Hour Cymbals was Yeasayer's attempt at global and ambient cultural mash-up then their new album, ODD BLOOD, takes place in an off-world colony sometime after the Singularity. Yeasayer have plunged into the craft of pop music, and the exercise has paid off. Jaguar Love - Hologram Jams (Fat Possum) .................................................. Blood Brothers may have betrayed their blood oath by breaking up, but the spirit of that raucous Seattle act lives on in Jaguar Love. Jaguar Love is comprised of ex-blood brothers Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato. Having already caught the eye of Queens of the Stone Age, who took them on tour for a spell last year, Jaguar Love has since inspired the folks at Fat Possum Records, who have signed them. Adam Green - Minor Love (Fat Possum) .................................................. After his work with the Moldy Peaches was done, Adam Green recorded 6 solo albums, including the latest, "Minor Love." The album showcases a tender side of the often arrogant and emotionally unavailable bully/singer, Green. In a total state of isolation, Green attempted to play nearly all the instruments on the record, due to incurable social phobias which plagued him. People may be shocked by how talented Adam Green is. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
