NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 3/16/2009 .................................................. Lou Bond - s/t (Light in the Attic) .................................................. Remastered edition of this great lost 1974 album from the soul/pop troubadour. Despite working for some of the biggest names in the music business, Lou Bond is still regarded as an outcast. His early 60s material on landmark label Chess stayed on the shelves. Even this album, released on the groovy yet little-known Stax imprint We Produce was left to languish in cutout bins and vinyl graveyards across the US. Kinda like a more folky What's Going On - RIYL Rodriguez, Terry Callier. Drive-By Truckers - The Big To-Do (ATO) .................................................. The band's 10th album in their 13 year career. The Big To-Do features 13 new tracks from the Drive-By Truckers and was produced by their long time producer, David Barbe (Sugar, Bettye LaVette). "It's very much a rock album," says Patterson Hood. "Very melodic and more rocking than anything we've done since disc 2 of Southern Rock Opera." Nuff said! Vinyl version in 2 weeks. Dropkick Murphys - Live on Lansdowne, Boston MA (Dropkick) .................................................. What makes this band band truly remarkable? Their insightful lyrics? Memorable melodies? Blow-your-mind live performances? Dropkick Murphys are all of those things along with their boundless enthusiasm, infectious energy and supreme devotion to their loyal fans - fans who have been eagerly awaiting this release. Recorded over 6 nights and 7 shows in March 2009 this live package puts the band's hot ticket live show experience in your own home. Happy Birthday - s/t (Sub Pop) .................................................. "As we all gladly guzzle down the bitter dregs of another winter, Brattleboro, VT's Happy Birthday (led by KING TUFF himself) serve up an eponymous debut of elated summertime vibes sure to cure any residual woes that ya just haven't been able to shake! Dub this one to cassette, shotgun a beer with yer buds and get hosed down in the front yard with some damn-near perfect pop reminiscent of the Vaselines, T. Rex, the Television Personalities and Guided By Voices... highly recommended!" - Tyler Michael Hurley - Hi Fi Snock Uptown LP (Mississippi) .................................................. A reissue of Michael Hurley's third LP. Originally recorded in 1972, this record finds Hurley exploring the full range of his stylistic canon and features some of his most loved songs such as "Water Train," "The Twilight Zone," "Eyes, Eyes" and "Blue Driver." Remastered from the original tapes. King Khan & Pat Meteor - Fiery Tears of St. Laurent 7" (Sub Pop) .................................................. The Fiery Tears of St. Laurent is King Khan and Pat Meteor's tribute to French Canada. The A-side recalls the story of St. Laurent who was burned at the stake for refusing to renounce Jesus Christ in front of the King. Shooting stars (traditionally called the Fiery Tears of St. Laurent) can often be seen above King Khan and Pat Meteor's hometown of Montreal. Neon Trees - Habits (Mercury) .................................................. Like their name, Neon Trees are a combination of slick pop hooks and sturdy organic rock, both melodic and hard-hitting, their anthems of adolescent angst, longing, love lost and found, delivered with the kind of heart-on-the-sleeve passion that only comes from hard work and commitment. Their debut, Habits, produced by friend, singer/guitarist Tim Pagnotta, is a refreshing blast of timeless rock energy and spirit that wouldn't sound out of place at any point from 60s garage-rock to 2010 dance rock. Personal and The Pizzas - Raw Pie CS (Burger) .................................................. Do you like The Stooges? Do you like The Ramones? DO YOU LIKE PIZZA??? If yes, then you will love Personal and the Pizzas! Super catchy rock n roll!!! On cassette! It compiles the out-of-print singles and a few unreleased tracks. This record captures the sounds of hot slices, cold brews and scuzzball tomfoolery, but alas we don't deliver. Viva pizza punk! More awesome cassettes from Burger also available! Emma Pollock - The Law of Large Numbers (Chemikal Underground) .................................................. The follow-up to 2007's 4AD-released Watch The Fireworks, Emma's 2nd solo effort eschews the traditional, accessibly melodic approach of her debut for more angular musical terrain: crammed with unconventional arrangements and by Emma's own admission, was an almost entirely self-serving project. So if returning to Chemikal Underground and the creative alliances that fuelled The Delgados has restored Emma's conviction to pursue her own instincts, then we should all be extremely grateful as her new album is a complex, intelligent and hugely compelling piece of work. The Unwinding Hours - s/t (Chemikal Underground) .................................................. The Unwinding Hours is the new musical project from Craig and Lain, former members of Glasgow's Aereogramme. Their debut self-titled album is an intensely rewarding experience with the literate flair of the song-writing effortlessly marched by Craig and lain's musical ambition & creative scope. Avid cinephiles, they acknowledge the influence of film on their work by taking their name from a reference buried deep within Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. The Whigs - In the Dark (ATO) .................................................. The Whigs have gone widescreen. Bursting with energy, emotion, and unpredictable experimentation, the Athens, GA-based trio tear open the artistic envelope, bringing both nuance and eclectics strength to songs like "Hundred/Million" and the raucous first single, "Kill Me Carolyne." Both atmospheric and ambitious, without losing the pedal-to-the-metal power that earned them universal praise as one of America's finest young rock bands. White Stripes - Under Great White Northern Lights (Warner) .................................................. Shortly after the release of Icky Thump, The White Stripes embarked on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada. "We wanted to play out of the way towns that don't usually get shows...the shows are better, it's better for the people, it's a better experience, it's way more unique, something interesting is going to happen...hopefully." Equipped with a couple of 16mm cameras, and a few other documenting devices, the band and crew all headed north. Available as CD, LP, DVD or supremely deluxe box set! Preservation Hall Jazz Band - An Album to Benefit Preservation Hall (Preservation) .................................................. Over the last year, more than 20 of American music's most exciting artists traveled to Preservation Hall in New Orleans to collaborate with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on New Orleans repertoire. The end result is a timeless and joyous celebration of New Orleans Music. New recordings from Tom Waits, Andrew Bird, Del McCoury, Yim Yames and more! Johnny Cash - American VI: Ain't No Grave (Lost Highway Records) .................................................. American VI: Ain't No Grave, produced by Rick Rubin, is deeply elegiac, spiritual and is an achingly personal and intimate statement, as, from the end of the line, Cash looks back on a most extraordinary life. The songs are drawn from all over the musical landscape and include Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times," Ed McCurdy's "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream" and the never before heard Cash original, "I Corinthians: 15:55," written over the last three years of his life. Yeasayer - Odd Blood (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. While their first record, All Hour Cymbals, was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. If All Hour Cymbals was Yeasayer's attempt at global and ambient cultural mash-up then their new album, ODD BLOOD, takes place in an off-world colony sometime after the Singularity. Yeasayer have plunged into the craft of pop music, and the exercise has paid off. Jaguar Love - Hologram Jams (Fat Possum) .................................................. Blood Brothers may have betrayed their blood oath by breaking up, but the spirit of that raucous Seattle act lives on in Jaguar Love. Jaguar Love is comprised of ex-blood brothers Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato. Having already caught the eye of Queens of the Stone Age, who took them on tour for a spell last year, Jaguar Love has since inspired the folks at Fat Possum Records, who have signed them. Adam Green - Minor Love (Fat Possum) .................................................. After his work with the Moldy Peaches was done, Adam Green recorded 6 solo albums, including the latest, "Minor Love." The album showcases a tender side of the often arrogant and emotionally unavailable bully/singer, Green. In a total state of isolation, Green attempted to play nearly all the instruments on the record, due to incurable social phobias which plagued him. People may be shocked by how talented Adam Green is. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
