There are a limited number of full sets and even fewer individual prints available. Full sets are $100 and individual posters are $15. If interested contact junebugjenkins@gmail.com - thanks! .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 3/23/2009 .................................................. Mose Allison - The Way of the World (Anti) .................................................. Mose Allison's ANTI- debut The Way of the World marks his return to the recording studio after a 12 year absence. Working with maverick producer Joe Henry, Allison has found his most sympathetic setting in years, surrounded by young, vibrant players, who add surprising slide guitar and some sinewy saxophone to the classic Mose sound. Autechre - Oversteps (Warp) .................................................. One of the most distinctive and revered electronic groups of all time, they've previously been commissioned to remix the likes of Stereolab and Tortoise, and have notably been feted by Thom Yorke, with the Radiohead frontman stating on his official website that they "made my head spin", and citing their work as an influence on his own Kid A and Amnesiac. Their latest work shows an oft-overlooked playfulness and a rarely mentioned musicality that comes to the forefront. Between the layers of cold digital pings and fuzzed out tones, there are true chord changes and warm soundscapes being built from the ground up. The Bird & the Bee - Interpreting the Masters (Blue Note) .................................................. TBATB have been known to recreate 80s pop hits into unique and contemporary gems for the new millennium. With Interpreting the Masters Vol I, Greg Kurstin and Inara George go one step further and pay homage to one of the greatest duo's of that time Darryl Hall & John Oates. Classic material is reinvented through Kurstin's sleek production and George's sweet lyrical delivery. Joe Bonamassa - Black Rock (J&R) .................................................. Blues-rock guitar hero Joe Bonamassa is set to release his tenth full-length solo album. The disc re-teams him with producer Kevin Shirley (Black Crowes, Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin). The album was recorded at, and named for, Black Rock Studios in Santorini, Greece. With this album, we wanted to explore a world feeling, and this was the inspiration behind going to record in Greece and using some of the best Greek musicians to add a little flavor to a couple of the tracks. But it s by no means a world album. We wanted Joe's usual youthful and energetic tones to play alongside the worldly vibes of the Greek bouzouki and clarino. Bonnie Prince Billy & the Cairo Gang - The Wonder Show of the World (Drag City) .................................................. For this new album, Bonny and The Cairo Gang have built a bridge forward, assembled with riffs and bits from Emmett Kelly's guitar and the lyricism of Bonny's heart. But mostly, The Wonder Show of the World was, in its making, about trust. It's a record made eye-to-eye in a room, close and careful, by and for a few men who wanted to be together, who wanted to make music that sounds as good to listen to as it did to make, and who in doing so forged something new in space, the wonder of you and of them. Includes bonus 7" while they last! Bill Callahan - Rough Travel for a Rare Thing LP (Drag City) .................................................. Limited edition 2LP. A live album that contains a number of Smog classics, including a lovely bunch from A River Ain't Too Much to Love, as well a Bill Callahan classic from Woke On A Whaleheart, as well as a song not released on any Smog or Bill Callahan album to date. Drink Up Buttercup - Born And Thrown On A Hook (Yep Roc) .................................................. They may hail from Philly but the geography of their debut is less easily located on a map. It's an occasionally surreal mythology filled with tales of hopelessly flawed characters, star-crossed lovers, drunks, fairy tales & bad trips. It exists in a world touched upon by Tom Waits, Hans Christian Anderson and Lloyd Kaufman while musically it follows the direct lineage of classic songwriting: Bowie, Beatles & Beach Boys' late 60s lysergia, early Roxy Music, Sabbath's bass heavy pulse & the crescendos of Arcade Fire. Eddy Current Suppression Ring - Rush To Relax (Goner) .................................................. Cut last August in a six-hour session at Melbourne's Revolver Rehearsal Studios, the album combines stripped-down post-punk sensibilities with the sheer exhilaration of a four-man musical unit that has created its own language, and will never run out of new things to say. Goldfrapp - Head First (Mute) .................................................. Head First is the latest in a brilliantly consistent body of work - from the captivating electronic balladry of Mercury nominated debut Felt Mountain and its distorted-dancefloor follow-up, Black Cherry to the glitterball glamour of Supernature. A speedy rush of synth optimish, euphoria, fantasy and romance. With life affirming lyrics and stellar production it lifts off at full tilt and takes us on a journey to the heart of 2010. High Places - vs Mankind (Thrill Jockey) .................................................. The title of High Places vs. Mankind accurately suggests the album will take a slightly altered course from the "goodness as growth reflected in nature" motif of the band's debut. Mary's vocals are less effected and more present, but many aspects of the High Places sound and aesthetic remain intact. One hears dance rhythms, stereo effects, accessible melodies, dub influence, and as always, a love of layering and of combining the unexpected into something cohesive and new. Let's Wrestle - In The Court Of The Wrestling Let's (Merge) .................................................. Intended as a punk record, In the Court of the Wrestling Let's developed into more than that, with songs influenced by rock-and-roll ballads by Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly ("In Dreams," "My Schedule") and the psychedelic rock of Barrett-era Pink Floyd ("In the Court of the Wrestling Let's"), but overall it still remains a punk rock record. Love is All - Two Thousand and Ten Injuries (Polyvinyl) .................................................. Sweden's Love Is All recorded the follow-up to 2008's album at their Gothenburg studio last summer. The Aislers Set's Wyatt Cusick and the band themselves serve as producers. Love Is All s boisterous clamor is the real draw here. The band skips over cerebral tricks and hep posturing, instead going straight for adrenalized kicks, and it s a rush that lasts long after the record ends. - The Village Voice Radar Brothers - The Illustrated Garden (Merge) .................................................. A new Radar Bros album?! Jim Putnam has found a new band of brothers in bass player Be Hussey and drummer Stevie Treichel, two partners who are equally passionate about the band. The Illustrated Garden is the punchiest, most lyrically direct set of songs the band has released to date. The songs are unmistakably Radar Brothers, but the Treichel/Hussey rhythm section often pushes them in unexpected directions. Serena Maneesh - No 2: Abyss In B Minor (4AD) .................................................. In this age, given the ease of bedroom recording, records like this one aren't made very often. But this is no distended double-album; it may open with the eight-minute groove of 'Ayisha Abyss', which sounds like a caffeinated Can or something from Funkadelic's 'Maggot Brain', but the whole album is so concise, so perfectly realised that it's all over in 38 minutes and 45 seconds. Self-indulgent? No. Self-important? Yes, and rightly so. Very MBV! She & Him - Volume Two (Merge) .................................................. What began as a fascinating, no-strings-attached collaboration on Volume 1 has evolved into a bona fide, touring band, and She & Him are here to stay. Zooey Deschanel & M Ward are a comfortable and complementary musical pair; hearing them again on Volume 2 feels like getting together with two old friends. This time, the harmonies have grown more angelically layered, the string arrangements more dramatic, the songwriting even sharper and more confident. All songs (except 4 and 7) written by Zooey Deschanel. Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars - Rise & Shine (Cumbancha) .................................................. Introduced to the world by a moving film that documented the bandÕs formation in West African refugee camps and the challenges they faced returning to a homeland racked by years of bloody warfare.Ê For the follow up to their acclaimed debut album Living Like a Refugee, the band began recording back home in Freetown, Sierra Leone, then traveled to New Orleans to work with renowned producer Steve Berlin. Sierra LeoneÕs Refugee All Stars have risen like a phoenix from the ashes of destruction to create this infectious and celebratory new record. Strange Boys - Be Brave (In the Red) .................................................. Guaranteed to please any and all who appreciate an infectious mix of ramshackle garage rock, polished Village Green-era Kinks melodies, and vocals that suggest a young Bob Dylan had he spent more of his formative years in juvie halls than coffeehouses. And who can't dig that? The moody parts are now moodier and the band's signature groove is now... well... groovier. The Boys internalize a host of classic pop and rock sub-sub-genres and make them sound utterly vibrant in the messed-up times of now. At The Bishop April 2nd! The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming (Rough Trade) .................................................. It's hard to imagine a British folk outfit with fans like Radiohead, Portishead, Robert Wyatt, Ben Folds, Ewan McGregor and Nick Hornby, but Unthanks occupy a unique place in music. Influenced as much by the minimalist eccentricity of Steve Reich, Antony, Robert Wyatt and Miles Davis, as they are by the traditional music of the North East of UK where sisters Rachel and Becky Unthank grew up. VA - T.A.M.I. Show DVD (Shout Factory) .................................................. Filmed just 8 months after The Beatles appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show, The T.A.M.I. Show introduced rock n soul youth culture to America in the first concert movie of the rock era. One of the rarest and most sought-after performance films, the 1964 concert event featured The Rolling Stones, James Brown, Chuck Berry, The Beach Boys, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, The Supremes and many other hitmakers in their prime. Preservation Hall Jazz Band - An Album to Benefit Preservation Hall (Preservation) .................................................. Over the last year, more than 20 of American music's most exciting artists traveled to Preservation Hall in New Orleans to collaborate with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band on New Orleans repertoire. The end result is a timeless and joyous celebration of New Orleans Music. New recordings from Tom Waits, Andrew Bird, Del McCoury, Yim Yames and more! Johnny Cash - American VI: Ain't No Grave (Lost Highway Records) .................................................. American VI: Ain't No Grave, produced by Rick Rubin, is deeply elegiac, spiritual and is an achingly personal and intimate statement, as, from the end of the line, Cash looks back on a most extraordinary life. The songs are drawn from all over the musical landscape and include Kris Kristofferson's "For The Good Times," Ed McCurdy's "Last Night I had the Strangest Dream" and the never before heard Cash original, "I Corinthians: 15:55," written over the last three years of his life. Yeasayer - Odd Blood (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. While their first record, All Hour Cymbals, was conceived in total artistic isolation, constant touring forced Yeasayer to finally engage with their contemporaries. If All Hour Cymbals was Yeasayer's attempt at global and ambient cultural mash-up then their new album, ODD BLOOD, takes place in an off-world colony sometime after the Singularity. Yeasayer have plunged into the craft of pop music, and the exercise has paid off. Jaguar Love - Hologram Jams (Fat Possum) .................................................. Blood Brothers may have betrayed their blood oath by breaking up, but the spirit of that raucous Seattle act lives on in Jaguar Love. Jaguar Love is comprised of ex-blood brothers Johnny Whitney and Cody Votolato. Having already caught the eye of Queens of the Stone Age, who took them on tour for a spell last year, Jaguar Love has since inspired the folks at Fat Possum Records, who have signed them. Adam Green - Minor Love (Fat Possum) .................................................. After his work with the Moldy Peaches was done, Adam Green recorded 6 solo albums, including the latest, "Minor Love." The album showcases a tender side of the often arrogant and emotionally unavailable bully/singer, Green. In a total state of isolation, Green attempted to play nearly all the instruments on the record, due to incurable social phobias which plagued him. People may be shocked by how talented Adam Green is. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
