So we take it you survived Little 500? Its a minor miracle that we did, the ghouls started to rise from their drunken graves on our block as the sun set on our workday each day and made us often fear for our lives and consider barricading ourselves in like we was the Winchester. Fear not- when the zombie apocalypse happens, ours will still be a safe zone. Our heads are finally on straight from the madness of Record Store Day 2010 (thanks again!) and now we can see that there are indeed some RSD leftovers - stop in and check em out. No Bruce, Stones, Beasties or the other big requests, but lots of the smaller stuff. Come in and ask, we might even still be able to re-order it! One thing that got lost in the shuffle are Mexican Summer LPs and Cassettes! Kurt Vile, Real Estate, Pearl Harbor reissues at a nice price. .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 4/27/2009 .................................................. Avi Buffalo - s/t (Sub Pop) .................................................. Avi Buffalo is the adopted name of Avigdor Zahner-Isenberg, an 18 year-old singer and guitarist from Long Beach, CA. Avi Buffalo is also the name of the band he formed with friends Sheridan Riley (drums), Arin Fazio (the old man at nearly 21 on bass) and Rebecca Coleman (keys and vocals). By the time you read this, they will pretty much all be out of high school. They've toured with Beach House, Final Fantasy, opened for Vampire Weekend and found fans at KCRW and the BBC. Balkan Beat Box - Blue Eyed Black Boy (InGrooves) .................................................. With their roots firmly planted all around the Mediterranean rim and their solid rock and reggae foundations, this NY-based band are Lotus Festival faves. They really transcend categories (pop, electronic dance music, world, rock) by creating a new breed of 21st century music, deeply connected to their folk upbringing yet forward-thinking, which appeals to audiences across the geographical and stylistic borders. This new album weaves elements of ragga and hip hop with Balkanoid horns, Arab & Bulgarian guest singers, Greek guitars and more. Burnt Ones - All Night Long 7" (Roaring Colonel) .................................................. The debut release from Indianapolis' Burnt Ones as well as My Old Kentucky Blog's new label imprint, Roaring Colonel. No offense to our other friends and bands in Indy, but this is the freshest breath of air we've tasted from Naptown in quite some time. "Gonna Listen to T. Rex (All Night Long)" sounds like it should - Glittery reverb and moans aplenty. Check out their upcoming show with Besnard Lakes on May 25th at the Bishop. The Feelies - Fa Ce-La 7" (Rough Trade) .................................................. The Feelies debut 7" - originally released October 8, 1979 on Rough Trade. A little-known gem, this single came out before the release of their first album Crazy Rhythms, but was quickly buried beneath the ensuing onslaught of Feelies fan fervor. Now you can hear it again in its original integrity, as it was always meant to be heard! Featuring the two tracks from the original single: "Fa Ce-La" b/w "Raised Eyebrows". Not to be missed! A must have for any Feelies fan. Frog Eyes - Paul's Tomb: A Triumph (Dead Oceans) .................................................. Three years in the making, Paul's Tomb marks Frog Eyes' thunderous, frantic, fiery return. This is a slow-brewed masterpiece that is unmistakably Frog Eyes, a new album that was very much worth the wait. On this point we feel unassailable: Frog Eyes keeps getting better and better. Equally informed by Scott Walker and Roxy Music, Nuggets collections and the Everly Brothers. But in truth, Frog Eyes' recordings sound like nothing else but Frog Eyes. Gogol Bordello - Trans Continental Hustle (Columbia) .................................................. Produced by Rick Rubin, Trans-Continental Hustle combines the band's radical invocations of positive primal energy and planetary consciousness with music infused with Ska, Metal, Punk, Rap, Dub and intimations of indigenous Brazilian sounds to produce a party maelstrom of electrifying proportions. Led by revolutionary change agent and provocateur Eugene Hutz, Gogol Bordello, a 9-piece juggernaut of gypsy rebel soul, has become an international force to be reckoned with. Half Rats - For the Sake of Love 7" (Douchemaster) .................................................. TJ lives in Chicago and plays in CoCoComa. The other dudes are somewhere in Indiana. The Half Rats are sort of Doo-wopish on a poor man's recording budget. It's catchy as hell but not overly joyful or silly. An undeniable sixties vibe and great vocal hooks. Hole - Nobody's Daughter (Mercury) .................................................. "This record is about greed, vengeance and feminism," says Courtney Love of the ragged rock songs on her first LP in 6 years - and the first she'll release with a new incarnation of Hole. Writing began in 2005, while Love was strumming raw folk tunes on an acoustic during a rehab stint. But as the songs developed - with help from producer Michael Beinhorn, Billy Corgan and Linda Perry - Love says, "S**t got darker, I got meaner, and the tracks got hard and big." Jesse Malin & St Marks Social - Love it to Life (Side One Dummy) .................................................. When Jesse Malin met producer Ted Hutt (Lucero, Flogging Molly, Gaslight Anthem) one drunken night at a local bar, their talk of making a record fast, loose, and raw, was the beginning of Hutt's quest to create a record that would encompass Malin's roots and evolution from hardcore thrasher to punk/folk singer-songwriter. Filled with the characters Malin does best: messengers and misanthropes, hipsters and hypocrites and as always, his constant themes of redemption, nightlife, heartbreak, and survival, LOVE IT TO LIFE a sentiment taken from a ticket stub Joe Strummer autographed for Jesse was built with desperate optimism that shouts in gang vocals that no matter how bad it gets, you're never alone. The Replacements - I'll Be You 7" (Rhino) .................................................. Originally released in 1989, "I'll Be You" was the first single from The Replacements' superb full-length Don't Tell A Soul. This 7" also contains a non-LP B-side, "Date To Church", featuring vocal accompaniment from none other than the legendary Tom Waits. Featuring the albums' original artwork and repressed using the master files. Unnatural Helpers - Cracked Love & Other Drugs (Hardly Art) .................................................. Recorded with Seattle mainstay Kurt Bloch (Fastbacks) Cracked Love & Other Drugs is a collection of beguiling and wonderfully varied tunes. 15 songs that conflict and compliment in just over 25 minutes - ricocheting between broken relationships, mock fatalist wink nodage, knucklehead party racket, absurd isolationist paranoia and open book love-letter sap. This push and pull (along with great pop sensibilities and good old fashioned rock and roll KRAANG) is in the end what makes cracked love such an intriguing, appealing listen. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. ATO Records is pleased to announce the release of The Drive-By Truckers' label debut, The Big To-Do. The album, which will be the band's 10th in their 13-year career, is scheduled to be released March 16, 2010. The Big To-Do features 13 new tracks from the Drive-By Truckers and was produced by their long time producer, David Barbe (Sugar, Bettye LaVette). "It's very much a rock album," says Patterson Hood of the Trucker's upcoming release. "Very melodic and more rocking than anything we've done since disc 2 of Southern Rock Opera." The Whigs - In The Dark (ATO) .................................................. With their stunning third album, In The Dark, the Whigs have gone widescreen. Bursting with energy, emotion, and unpredictable experimentation, the Athens, GA-based trio tear open the artistic envelope, bringing both nuance and eclectics strength to songs like "Hundred/Million" and the raucous first single, "Kill Me Carolyne." In The Dark is both atmospheric and ambitious, without losing the pedal-to-the-metal power that earned them universal praise as one of America's finest young rock-n' roll bands. She and Him - Volume Two (Merge) .................................................. She & Him are here to stay. Zooey Deschanel and Matt Ward are a comfortable and complementary musical pair; hearing them again on Volume Two feels like getting together with two old friends. This time, the harmonies have grown more angelically layered, the string arrangements more dramatic, the songwriting even sharper and more confident. All songs (except  4 and 7) were written by Zooey Deschanel and produced by M. Ward. Autechre - Oversteps (Warp) .................................................. Oversteps shows an oft-overlooked playfulness and a rarely mentioned musicality that comes to the fore-front, in what could be described as their most accessible work to date. Between the layers of cold digital pings and fuzzed out tones, there are true chord changes and warm soundscapes being built from the ground up. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - I Learned the Hard Way (Daptone) .................................................. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings are already well known as one of the most exciting acts in the nation for both their explosive live shows and their prolific output of gritty studio recordings. Their breakout release, 100 Days, 100 Nights, sold over 150,000 copies worldwide. This spring the band will release I Learned the Hard Way, their fourth full-length on Brooklyn's independent Daptone Records. The record marks a bold step forward for a band who almost single handedly stewarded today's return of soul music to its more traditional sound. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
