Are you pumped for tonight's Besnard Lakes show at The Bishop? You should be. They rocked our old location many moons ago (March of 2007!) - they rocked it so hard that its now just a giant pile of rubble! Don't believe me? Cruise on down Washington St and behold the eyesore where Landlocked once was. RIP LLM 1.0. Landlocked Music presents: MC5 A True Testimonial. Friday May 28th at The Bishop - $2 - film starts at 9pm - Nervous Shakedown DJs at 11pm. You will NOT find this movie at any theater, video rental or website - this is your ONLY CHANCE to see this amazing piece of cinematic glory. This long overdue documentary tells the tale of one of the most threatening and dangerous bands ever to grace the American music scene. Sporting the level of desperation only recognized by true cast-out socially degenerate miscreants, The MC5 proved over their short existence that even the most lost and hopeless souls will have a voice. You loved em at Lotus, they fed your ears at Taste of Bton, and now - Landlocked Music is pleased to present a live instore performance from Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band! Saturday June 12 at Landlocked. FREE! 3pm. Refreshments from Upland! Then go over to the Bluebird later that night and check out the full on electric live set. Another no miss situation brought to you from your friends at Landlocked Music! June 21st, Landlocked Music presents: New Music Happy Hour, plus a great show from Brothers Gross, City Sweethearts and Vacation Club. Doors at 8pm, $4 at The Bishop. Free stuff, great tunes, drink specials, hot jamz, good times. Get their early! .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 5/25/2010 .................................................. Beach Fossils - s/t (Captured Tracks) .................................................. The jangly ramblings of Brooklyn's Beach Fossils offers hauntingly catchy tunes that blend the energy of an impulsive road trip with the melodious wandering of a lucid dream. Sun drenched riffs, kaleidoscopic rhythms and hazy lyrics saturate their first LP, the album's carefree vibe is perfectly summed up through song titles such as "Daydream," "Vacation," and "Lazy Day." David Cross - Bigger and Blackerer (Sub Pop) .................................................. Taped during 2 back-to-back shows in Boston. Yes, there is some overlap between the CD and the DVD, but not a lot. Though both media are housed on a shiny, silver 5" disc, each is an entity unto itself, full of material that appears solely on one or the other. Only by watching the DVD will you learn of Cross unique relationship with the deaf community and share his canny insights into the editorial machinations behind the Bible. Yet one must listen to the CD in order to hear about gastro-intestinal misadventures with his dog Ollie Red Sox, or sing along with the opening number composed by Cross and his good friend Mark Rivers (author of the Mr. Show theme). Crystal Castles - s/t (Universal) .................................................. Fusing low-res electronic noise and pop hooks so effortlessly that it can seem accidental. Kath got the moniker from the name of She-Ra's dwelling in the He-Man cartoon series; it's also the name of a 1983 Atari video game, which is oddly appropriate, considering that one component of the band's distinctive sound comes from a keyboard modified with an Atari 5200 sound chip. When Kath collaborated with singer Alice Glass on some songs in 2005, Crystal Castles' lineup was complete. The Ding Dongs - s/t (Norton) .................................................. Introducing the modern day Rat Fink and Boo Boo, Montreal mega-monster talents BBQ and Bloodshot Bill, each the greatest young vocalists to erupt from the the City of Smoked Meats - Snap the shackles of your mind with this unparalled debut album! Karen Elson - The Ghost Who Walks (XL) .................................................. On her debut disc, Karen Elson spins intriguingly unsettling tales of lost love, dashed hope, romantic betrayal and various crimes of passion witnessed only by the full moon. A dark, countrified affair that will probably appeal to fans of alt-country stalwarts such as Neko Case and fans of the overall sound of Jack White's records (she is his wife), especially the Loretta Lynn record he produced, will probably appreciate this as well. First Aid Kit - Big Black & Blue (Wichita) .................................................. Debut full-length from the Stockholm-based duo comprised of sisters Klara and Johanna Soderberg. To some extent, their pitch-perfect, folk-inflected tunes are indicative of the uncanny, rather primitive bond between siblings. And while still relatively inchoate, First Aid Kit utilize the partnership better than most and as good as Eisley or the Watson Twins. Damien Jurado - Saint Bartlett (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. Saint Bartlett opens up with a grandiosity yet unheard on a Damien album. It strips away the many layers of paint from the house down the street where we know Jurado has occupied for the last decade. The new coat is exhilarating. It makes the whole neighborhood shine. It's a modest grandiosity; still homegrown. The mellotron swells, heavenly handclaps ring in stereo and big drums create a sky for the songs to fly in. And the words. Words spring forth from within the volcano of Jurado, full of hope. Produced by Richart Swift. Appearing at The Bishop w/ Denison Witmer on Sunday June 13th! Bill Kirchen - Word To The Wise (Proper) .................................................. Bill is a rockabilly guitarist, singer and songwriter. He was with the original Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen from 1967 thru mid 70s. Celebrating more than 40 years in the business with featured performances by longtime collaborators Elvis Costello, Paul Carrick, Nick Lowe, Dan Hicks, Maria Muldaur, Chris O'Connell, Commander Cody, Norton Buffalo and Blackie Farrell, among others. Bettye LaVette - Interpretations: British Rock Songbook (Anti) .................................................. Bettye LaVette brings the British Invasion home to its American R&B roots on Interpretations: The British Rock Songbook. The album is a 13 song journey through compositions by the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd among others, concluding right where the very idea for Interpretations started: Bettye's visceral rendition of The Who's Love Reign O'er Me from the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors. Nas & Damian Marley - Distant Relatives (Republic) .................................................. This is an album created by two serious artists to explore and celebrate the correlations and deep-rooted connections between reggae and Hip Hop, tracing both sounds back to the African motherland that is both the cradle of humanity and the wellspring of mankind's music. The project features the signature instrumentation and musicianship of Marley with the hard-hitting beats and lyrics of Nas. Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band - The Wages (Side One Dummy) .................................................. "I grew up in the country, and rural life and rural culture has shaped me and my music," says Reverend Peyton, who really is a Kentucky Colonel, just like Elvis Presley, Roy Rogers and Tiger Woods. "I have been playing music since I was a little kid. I am pretty sure we are on to something now." That combination of authenticity and originality is evident throughout The Wages, driven by the trio's big damn vocals and melodies, gutbucket guitar playing, and foot-stomping rhythms, all in service of songs that are honest and moving, devoid of irony or artifice. Catch em at our FREE INSTORE PERFORMANCE on Saturday June 12th at 3pm and at the Bluebird later that same night! Ty Segall - Melted (Goner) .................................................. Segall continues a tireless musical assault on ears and minds with this, his third album. He says it sounds like "cherry cola, Sno-Cones and taffy." Indeed! Over the past two years, he's released records more often than most people do laundry, but somehow there is still a heap of anticipation for this album, packed full of truly Psychedelic Pop songs with great vocals and exciting arrangements. Tobacco - Maniac Meat (Anticon) .................................................. Sophomore effort from this musical outlet from Black Moth Super Rainbow's main constituent. Seemingly relegating BMSR to side project status, mastermind Tobacco bullies his previous works into a corner, guts them and leaves 'em for dead. Features guest contributions from Beck. Truth & Salvage Co - s/t (Silver Arrow) .................................................. Prior to their conception, the members performed and collaborated with many other well-known acts such as Moldy Peaches, Ben Folds Five, Jack Johnson, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Old Pike as well as members of My Morning Jacket. A staggered exodus in 2005 brought all 6 musicians to Los Angeles, where they first performed together during casual late-night jam sessions. It was on that very stage that Truth & Salvage Co was born. It was, in fact the sincerity of their song writing and passionate performance that attracted Black Crowes frontman Chris Robinson to produce and release their debut album. Kurt Vile - Square Shells 12" EP (Matador) .................................................. Square Shells depicts some aspects of Kurt's music not immediately accessible on his last album, from dreamgazey jams to plaintive, folky melodies. Recorded in a brighter, less homemade sound, Kurt's extraordinarily evocative songwriting explores themes of friendship, loss and desolation. Widespread Panic - Dirty Side Down (ATO) .................................................. After 24 years, Widespread Panic remain one of America s best live bands, and most successful touring acts. Aside from their legendary live shows, they continue to raise the bar in their genre through their songwriting, and Dirty Side Down, their 11th studio album, is a prime example. With deep bass lines, mesmerizing syncopated guitar riffs, provocative lyrics and stimulating keyboards, OMNI explodes with a bursting energy and unpredictable experimentation. OMNI continues Minus The Bear's shape-shifting evolution and is a culmination of their past influences and present inspirations. Over the years, Minus The Bear has won over legions of fans and critics with an exhilarating live show and a sound that is uniquely their own. Broken Social Scene - Forgiveness Rock Record (Arts & Crafts) .................................................. Produced by John McEntire (Tortoise & The Sea and Cake), the album features BSS alumni: Leslie Feist, Amy Millan and Evan Cranley of Stars, Emily Haines and Jimmy Shaw of Metric, Jason Collett, Ohad Benchetrit of Do Make Say Think and Years, John Crossingham, Marty Kinack, Leon Kingstone and Julie Penner. Uniquely, the song "Sentimental X's" features Leslie Feist, Emily Haines and Amy Millan singing together for the first time on the same song. Flying Lotus - Cosmogramma (Warp) .................................................. When global bass music matriarch Mary Anne Hobbs recently told The Fader "Flying Lotus, for me, is like the Hendrix of his generation", it seemed more than an audacious opinion, and with the arrival of Cosmogramma, it's revealed as a revelation. In the past couple of years since his debut album, Los Angeles, Flying Lotus has grown into the position of being far more than a producer, he has helped materialize a far-reaching strain of musical ideology that has encompassed not only a global family of like-minded artists, but also a nearly infinite palate of planetary (and interplanetary) sonics. Kaki King - Junior (Rounder) .................................................. Kaki King has spent the past decade gathering critical acclaim for her unparalleled guitar skills. Not only is she the first ever female named a "Guitar God" by Rolling Stone, but she also received a Golden Globe nomination for Into the Wild and that  same year, appeared in the film August Rush, and performed on the Foo Fighters' Grammy® winning album as well as opened for them during their Australia tour.  Kaki reaches new heights with her debut album, Junior. This collection of songs delivers twists and turns: from exuberance & anger to heartbreaking melancholy, and sonically from experimental pieces to accessible pop. Junior defies categorization and expectation, making it a recording to be reckoned with. Kris Kristofferson - Please Don't Tell Me How the Story Ends: The Publishing Demos 1968-1972 (Light in the Attic) .................................................. For the past five years, Light In The Attic has embarked on a dream project - working with the blessing of the legendary Kris Kristofferson to compile a selection of his demos from the late 1960s and early '70s. We are proud to present this 16-song collection, an amazing snapshot of the formative years of one of the giants of contemporary American music. The recordings found on this compilation of previously unreleased material include early versions of songs that would become standards of his impressive catalog. Included on this title are: "Me and Bobby McGee," "Just The Other Side of Nowhere," "Come Sundown" and "Please Don't Tell Me How The Story Ends." This release is an intimate portrait of an important artist at the beginning of a long, storied career. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
