Lots of great shows on sale now - Real Estate & Kurt Vile (this thursday at the Bishop!), Lightning Bolt & Jeff the Brotherhood (next tuesday at Rhinos), Old 97s @ Bluebird (7/21), Liars @ Rhinos (7/21). .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for the Week of 7/13/2010 .................................................. Admiral Radley - I Heart California (+1) .................................................. Jason Lytle & Aaron Burtch of Grandaddy + Aaron Espinoza & Ariana Murry of Earlimart have come together after being long time friends to form the band Admiral Radley. In late 2009, they made the decision to pull some of their long gestating collaborations together and make good on the oft-discussed promise of releasing their debut album I Heart California. I Heart California is a love letter to their shared home state. Autechre - Move of Ten EP (Warp) .................................................. On the heels of their most well-received album in several years, experimental electronic music producers Autechre bring an EP of 10 all new tracks titled Move of Ten. The EP is available as CD and as two separate 12" vinyl releases (4 tracks on one, 6 on the other) with exquisite packaging design and artwork from legendary UK firm The Designers Republic. Bare Wires - Seeking Love (Castle Face) .................................................. Amplifying the pared down "smooth punk" of their debut LP, Bare Wires nods to the bubblegum chomping, power pop stompers of 70s glam rock with their sophomore LP. Released on John Dwyer's (Thee Oh Sees) Castle Face imprint, the 10 songs boast handclap heavy, stadium-ready production reminiscent of 70s glam rockers Gary Glitter and Slade, while still speaking to the sincerity and authenticity that has become Melton's songwriting trademark. The Bitters - East General LP (Mexican Summer) .................................................. Formed in the east end of Toronto, The Bitters write and record their self-proclaimed Cave Pop from their studio, an artistic cooperative shared with Toronto's most creative musicians. Their debut EP was released last spring on Captured Tracks and sold out shortly after, having been instantly well-received among tough critics and keen listeners alike. The band is a result of Cook and Fogel's prolific efforts and their ability to construct songs ranging from 50s melodies atop dark post-punk instrumentals, to 90s throwback alternative and grunge, which stems from their unique dynamic as friends and partners. Blue Giant - s/t (Vanguard) .................................................. The new creation of Kevin and Anita Robinson, better known as indie-pop darlings Viva Voce. The band features Chris Funk (Decemberists), Evan Railton (Swords), Corin Tucker (Sleater-Kinney) and Seth Lorinczi (Golden Bears). On their debut LP, Blue Giant combines the traditional sounds of American music - country, bluegrass and folk with driving, straight-ahead rock. Carissa's Wierd - They'll Only Miss You When You Leave (Hardly Art) .................................................. Retrospective compilation from much-beloved and sorely missed Seattle band, which featured members of Band of Horses, Grand Archives, S and Sera Cahoone. Free bonus 7inch with purchase while supplies last! Crowded House - Intriguer (Fantasy) .................................................. Following up on their 2007 release Time On Earth - their first studio recording in 14 years. Produced by Jim Scott (Wilco), this all-new recording brings together Neil Finn with original Crowded House bassist Nick Seymour and keyboardist/guitarist Mark Hart. Says Finn: "Intriguer is exotic in parts, traditional in origin. It may just be the best thing we've done." Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse - Dark Night of the Soul (Capitol) .................................................. Dark Night Of The Soul is an album by Danger Mouse and the already much-missed Sparklehorse. The record sees the pair joined by the following remarkable roll call of guests: The Flaming Lips, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals), Jason Lytle (Grandaddy), Julian Casablancas (Strokes), Black Francis (Pixies), Iggy Pop, David Lynch, James Mercer (Shins/Broken Bells), Nina Persson (Cardigans), Suzanne Vega and Vic Chesnutt. In addition to featuring on 2 songs, celebrated film director David Lynch has created a series of photos, adding a spectacular visual dimension that will be incorporated in to the artwork for this already unparalleled project. Free posters while they last! Jacuzzi Boys - Bricks of Cocomuts 7" (Mexican Summer) .................................................. This is raucous pop of the murkiest orderÑ jangling guitars, caveman drums, and songs of sex and seashells, dead animals and birthday cakes. Dragging behind in their dusty wake, the Jacuzzi Boys come bearing a string of 7-inch singles that did nothing if not forecast the 12-song tornado that is their debut LP, No Seasons. If 2009 was any indication, 2010 is the year the Jacuzzi Boys come busting out of the tropics, naked as the gator and twice as toothy. The Love Language - Libraries (Merge) .................................................. Among the moments captured on Libraries are Spectoresque walls of reckless sound, cavernous drums, middle-school percussion, and moody swells of stringed instruments, all decorated hastily with stray leads, which bleed beautifully all over everything. Super-solid chug-along pop songs performed with an almost startling precision on all members' parts. M.I.A. - / \ / \ / \ Y / \ (Interscope) .................................................. On /\/\ /\ Y /\, M.I.A. continues her musical exploration into new territory including rock, dubstep and more. She is not a typical artist and /\/\ /\ Y /\ pushes the envelope with controversial sounds, lyrics, and imagery. M.I.A is many things - a visual-artist, musician, revolutionary, and style-icon- and just when you think you have her pegged, she will surprise you. Featuring production by Rusko, Blaqstarr, Switch, Diplo, Sugu, John Hill, Derek Miller and M.I.A. Mystery Jets - Serotonin (Rough Trade) .................................................. Downstairs in the control room, putting the finishing touches to the 3rd Mystery Jets LP lurks Chris Thomas, legendary producer of Roxy Music's For Your Pleasure, the Sex Pistols Anarchy In The UK, John Cale's Paris 1919 and Pulp's Different Class, of whom the Mystery Jets understandably seem a little in awe. After stripping away much of the excess on their lovelorn, warmly-received 2008 LP, Serotonin sees the Jets mapping out new territories. You can hear echoes of ELO, 10CC, Fleetwood Mac and Supertramp rubbing up against the band's own idiosyncratic, very British, psychedelic sensibility. No Joy - s/t 7" (Mexican Summer) .................................................. A duo from LA and Montreal, they exist in a cool, Sonic Youth cult of living on riffs and cigarettes. "No Summer" is a detached dirge, with whispered vocals, that sounds like they are secret somnambulists who have woken up to the power of rock. The self titled "No Joy" is a revelation. It shreds and will make you remember a time when the electric guitar felt like it could have taken over the world. Ghosts of SST, early Sub Pop and even AmRep linger around these songs while never compromising No Joy's brutal/beautiful dynamic. R.E.M. - Fables of the Reconstruction [deluxe] (Capitol) .................................................. This 25th Annv Edition features the classic album digitally remastered. The bonus CD is a complete run thorugh of the album done in studio in Athens, before the band left for London for the actual recording sessions. These demos have never before been released and feature 3 additional tracks not on the final album, including "Throw Those Trolls Away" a song the band has never released. The albums are packaged in a lift top box and include a poster and 4 postcards, as well as booklet. Sun Kil Moon - Admiral Fell Promises (Caldo Verde) .................................................. This 60 minute, ten song album is Sun Kil Moon's fourth, but only the third of original material after 2003's 'Ghosts of the Great Highway' and 2008's 'April'. Additionally it is the first that is all acoustic, played entirely by Mark Kozelek on nylon string guitar. VA - Welcome Home: Diggin the Universe (Woodsist) .................................................. The sons and daughters of Homestead, Xpressway and first-wave Drag City are now making good music. The 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s are all there, bound together by shitty tape machines, reverb and easy chord changes, but melody is back and so is the joy of jamming a perfectly mangled pop song. This might hit some new kids the way Human Music or Nuggets did back in their day. In any case, it's one of those rare comps you can play straight through and over again. Featuring tracks from: Woods, RUN DMT, White Fence, The Fresh & Onlys, The Mantles, Skygreen Leopards, Alex Bleeker, Moon Duo, City Center, Cause Co Motion, Art Museums, Nodzzz and Ducktails. Each album has a review and enables you to listen to the entire album before you buy it. Give 'er a spin! Hot Hot Heat - Future Breeds (Dangerbird) .................................................. On Future Breeds, Hot Hot Heat returns to its roots both metaphorically and literally with a hot-wired and proud party album throbbing with spontaneity and creativity. When the band began writing Future Breeds, front man Steve Bays, along with band mates Paul Hawley and Luke Paquin, sought to recapture the energy and sheer love for the art form that drove the late-nineties Vancouver punk scene from which the band emerged. We Are Scientists - Barbara (MRI) .................................................. We Are Scientists return with more bubbly chorus', jittery rhythms and popping bass than you can shake a stick at. The band has a new drummer and nothing has stopped the band's Keith Murray from delivering his usual blend of 80's affectations and pop clatter. Sarah McLachlan - Laws of Illusion (Arista) .................................................. Long awaited 2010 album from the multi-platinum and Grammy-Award winning singer/songwriter, her first studio album of new material in seven years. Laws Of Illusions was recorded in Montreal and Vancouver with Sarah's longtime collaborator/producer Pierre Marchand. Sarah has sold over 40 million recordings worldwide since her recording career began in 1988 with her debut album. Each and every one of her albums has been certified Gold or Platinum. Features the first single 'Loving You Is Easy'. Alejandro Escovedo - Street Songs of Love (Fantasy) .................................................. From his days in the now legendary punk/alt-country outfits The Nuns, Rank and File and his own True Believers, to his glowingly received solo gems including 2008's Real Animal, Escovedo has built a rapturous underground following among fans, songwriting peers and critics alike. His highly anticipated Fantasy Records debut, Street Songs of Love, is a 13-track celebration of survival, liberation and ultimate salvation. Delphic - Acolyte (Dangerbird) .................................................. In a world of indie bands dipping a cautious toe into dance music's occasionally baffling computer world, Delphic are post-dance futurist nostalgics from Manchester who have managed to take repetitive beats and crisp electronics out of the underground to emerge as one of the UK's most exciting new bands. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
