Bad Religion - The Dissent of Man (Epitaph) .................................................. Bad Religion are celebrating three decades of influential, thought provoking and groundbreaking punk rock with a new record and 15th studio album, "The Dissent Of Man." The result is one of the band's most forward thinking and musically varied albums ever. Breathe Owl Breathe - Magic Central (Hometapes) .................................................. In a Lincoln Log cabin in deep rural Michigan live and work Micah Middaugh, Trevor Hobbs, and Andrea Moreno-Beals. This is Breathe Owl Breathe. A printmaker, a geomorphologist, and a native of Colombia, respectively, the trio transformed their ancient home into a 4-season sonic and visual workshop. Through the snow and the sun (and the bugs), they created Magic Central (the name they also gave their cabin). It's a pop album like no other, a timeless aural cartogram of feeling, soul, skill, and story. You could have found it in the attic. It could have dropped from space. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest (4AD) .................................................. Halcyon Digest is Deerhunter's fourth album and their first to be released on 4AD worldwide. The album was recorded in at Chase Park Transduction Studios in Deerhunter's hometown of Atlanta, GA with the band self-producing and Ben Allen enlisted to mix it (he also worked on Animal Collective's Merriweather Post Pavillion). Ben Folds & Nick Hornby - Lonely Avenue (Nonesuch) .................................................. According to an issued press release, the idea to create an album of "Folds' unique pop songwriting sensibilities with Hornby's insightful prose was conceived during a dinner conversation between the two friends one night in 2009. After that, Hornby began regularly emailing lyrics to Folds, who then turned them into Lonely Avenue's 12 musical short stories." The end result is said to touch on subject matter ranging from a mother with a child in the hospital over New Years Eve to the work of lyricist Doc Pomus, lyricist of countless 50s and 60s pop hits. Glasser - Ring (True Panther) .................................................. Glasser is one woman, Cameron Mesirow, and Ring is her debut album. Her intimate, luxurious music resonated widely on last year's EP Apply. For this new album, recorded in LA and Stockholm, she worked closely with producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Foreign Born, We Are Scientists) and Fever Ray's Van Rivers and Subliminal Kid. Ring displays a newly rich vision of her post-pop sound. Laced with strings, woodwinds and simple, angelic vocal melodies, Ring has the universal lure of a lullaby and a hymn. Hazy, delicious and recommended. Group Inerane - Guitars From Agadez Vol. 3 LP (Sublime Frequencies) .................................................. Volume 3 of the now legendary Guitars from Agadez series is finally here. Group Inerane's sophomore LP is the latest missive from the now sound of Niger's Tuareg guitar scene. Led by guitar hero Bibi Ahmed, this new incarnation introduces another legend on second guitar, one Koudede Maman. The sound represented on this LP is the apex of the trance stun guitar style that this scene has perfected. This is rock music as played with Saharan modes. There is a propulsive entropy to these songs that is infectious and narcotic! Two guitars, bass and drums chug along on a hypnotic choogle that rivals both the Magic Band's early 70s marathon workouts and the Velvet Underground's drone on tracks like Sister Ray. Limited edition LP comes in a beautiful full color gatefold Jacket with photos of the musicians and liner notes by Hisham Mayet. No Age - Everything in Between (Sub Pop) .................................................. Since the release of Weirdo Rippers, through Nouns, and beyond, LA duo No Age has earned enthusiastic notice from Pitchfork to The New Yorker, and found themselves unlikely Grammy nominees. Everything in Between sees No Age expand on the emotional force at the core of their catchy song-writing through tone, structure, noise, and samples. They've pushed themselves in challenging and different directions, deconstructing their weird-out pop songs while still maintaining their original aesthetic and intent. LP version comes with super deluxe huge booklet. Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - History of Modern (Bright Antenna) .................................................. One of the reasons Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark have called their brand new album, their eleventh,'History of Modern' is because they are acutely aware of what it is they're doing with this release. On paper, this is the UK synth-pop pioneers' first new material since 1996, but in spirit,it has more in common with the group's early '80s heyday when their hits lit up the charts and set the agenda for a bold new movement in British electronic music. Fast forward 30 years to the reunited OMD of 2010 and it's clear that that sense of mischief and youthful idealism still fuels the group. The Posies - Blood/Candy (Ryko) .................................................. Fresh off the Frosting On The Beater full-album shows and their work with Big Star, The Posies chart unforeseen territory on Blood/Candy while holding onto their well-known signature sound. The Huffington Post states, "depending on how you want to hear it, it's a brilliant return to form or a daring move forward." The almost entirely self-produced record boasts melodic hooks, provocative lyrics, and intricate layers of instrumentation that blend far-out, spacey sounds with sophisticated hues. Mark Ronson & the Business Intl - Record Collection (RCA) .................................................. New release from the Grammy Award-winning producer including the disparate talents of over 30 musicians and singers from both sides of the Atlantic, The Business Intl includes D'Angelo, Boy George, Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, Alex Greenwald, Nick Hodgson (Kaiser Chiefs), Ghostface, MNDR, Dap Kings, Spank Rock, Andrew Wyatt (Miike Snow), Rose Eleanor Dougall, Wiley and MC Pill. Recorded primarily in Brooklyn, it consists entirely of original material, bringing together the songwriting skills of Nick Hodgson, Jonathan Pierce (The Drums), D'Angelo, Alex Greenwald and Cathy Dennis, to name just a few. The result is a transatlantic sound that incorporates his love of everything from Hip Hop, Disco, 80s Pop to French Electro and all points in between. Adam Haworth Stephens - We Live on Cliffs (Saddle Creek) .................................................. Adam Haworth Stephens, lead singer and songwriter of San Francisco duo Two Gallants, is proud to announce the release of his debut solo album We Live on Cliffs. We Live on Cliffs spotlights Stephens' ability to craft compelling and intelligent songs that have forged an intimate and emotional bond with fans and captivated critics with words so personal they're universal. Tandoori Knights - Curry Up (Norton) .................................................. A dozen curried treats from the remarkable King Khan and Bloodshot Bill featuring the hit single 'Pretty Please' as well as soon-to-be Tandoori taste treats 'Into Her Arms' and 'Bandstand' and mo Hindu hi-jinx! Massively posh gatefold 'Funhouse' sleeve! This is what Warren Smith would have sounded like if he recorded in Bombay instead of Memphis. Three Mile Pilot - The Inevitable Past Is The Future Forgot (Temporary Residence) .................................................. A brief history: Formed in the early 90s, the group released a debut to a fair amount of acclaim, followed by an album that garnered the attention of Geffen Records. Shortly after, bassist Zach Smith formed Pinback with Rob Crow, and singer Pall Jenkins began a new project with Three Mile Pilot keyboardist Tobias Nathaniel. Both projects were meant to coexist with 3MP, however, both Pinback and The Black Heart Procession became unexpectedly popular. Next thing you know, it was 2009 and it had been a dozen years. Women - Public Strain (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. On their self-titled debut album, Women embraced sonic brashness that deeper examination revealed to be tinted with sly pop melody. With their second album "Public Strain", the band has honed a sound truthful to that reverb drenched noise while allowing the pop sensibilities to surface into clearer focus. This exact balance of delicate and dense is a pervasive thread throughout the album, reflecting the contradiction of the band's environment buried in urban sprawl framed by prairie landscape. Free bonus 7inch with purchase! Neil Young - Le Noise (Reprise) .................................................. 'What's striking about 'Le Noise' is the way it both summarizes and distills Young's singular approach to music, predominantly just Neil and a guitar: his big, white hollow-body Gretsch electric slashing and burning for most of the tracks, a couple built around picked and strummed acoustic instruments. Both are recorded and amplified - literally and metaphorically - by Lanois' signature soundscapes that loop vocals, and enhance the guitars' bass notes through distortion boxes, synthesizers and other electronics.' - Los Angeles Times VA - Roots of Chicha Vol 2 (Barbes) .................................................. RIYL Chicha Libre at Lotus Fest 2010! The first volume of Roots of Chicha took listeners back to the late 60s, when Peruvian guitarists from Lima and the Amazon created a new electric hybrid which mixed cumbia, surf, Cuban guaracha, rock, Peruvian folklore, and psychedelic touches. This new wave of cumbia came to be known as chicha. Scorned by the the middle-class and the official tastemakers, it remained mostly associated with the slums, where the growing population of Andean migrants embraced the music and its players as their own. Volume 2 focuses more on the urban aspect of the music and less on the Amazonian side. It highlights some lesser-known bands, and it also broadens its scope to include some of the early Cuban-influenced groups who would play such a crucial role in the elaboration of the chicha sound, as well as some of the later bands who play in the more Andean style that came to be referred to as chicha. More roots. More chicha! .................................................. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. The Oxford, MS, band dubbed a "Band To Watch" by Stereogum and the "best edge-of-your-seat energy since The Arcade Fire" by Paste -- have crafted their strongest statement to date with The Cradle, a 10-song album that focuses the band's wild-eyed, textured, standing at the edge of the world rock. Soap&Skin - Lovetune For Vacuum (PIAS) .................................................. Few musical discoveries in recent years have been as staggering as that of Soap&Skin, aka Anja Plaschg. The sheer force this twenty-year-old artist injects into her compositions almost defies belief, her songs consuming every last drop of her with no regard for peace. At other times the 14 deeply melancholic piano compositions, plus a cover version of Franz Schubert’s Im Dorfe’ that make up her debut album sometimes resemble crackling electronica under her unique vocals, which oscillate between a whisper and a scream. All of the songs, however, are drenched in Plaschg's beauty and grace. Dirty Heads - Any Port In A Storm (Fontana) .................................................. Dirty Heads represent a lifestyle, both musically and emotionally. It’s a lifestyle that is felt and adopted by fans of reggae, ska, and hip hop. It’s about good times, summer, fun with your friends and generally the rally cry of youth, which is all about postponing the inevitable responsibilities of adulthood for one more party. Dirty Heads pulls from a wide range of influences including rock, vintage reggae, underground hip-hop, skate punk lyrics, and weaves them together seamlessly to create a sound that is both familiar, yet unique unto themselves. !!! - Strange Weather, Isn’t It? (Warp) .................................................. Following in the footsteps of artists like David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Depeche Mode, !!! traveled to Berlin to produce a record that is simultaneously brooding and somehow their poppiest, most immediate record yet. Strange Weather, Isn’t It? is filled with deep, galvanizing grooves that protrude from a dark undercurrent, resulting in an album that perfectly captures the aura of Berlin while still retaining accessibility on the dance floor. Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses - Junky Star (Lost Highway) .................................................. Produced by T Bone Burnett, Junky Star is the new album from acclaimed singer/songwriter Ryan Bingham & The Dead Horses. Bingham recently won the Oscar and Golden Globe for “The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart)”, which he co-wrote with Burnett. All 12 songs on Junky Star were written by Bingham and range from Sticky Fingers-era Stones (“Depression”), to introspective confessionals (“Hallelujah), to narratives with vivid imagery (“The Poet”). -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://indiana.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2385198570 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
