NEW ARRIVALS for November 30th .................................................. Can - Peel Sessions LP (BBC) .................................................. Six amazing live in studio cuts from 1974/1975 John Peel show appearances, available for the very first time on vinyl. These are exclusive to this session and never appeared on any album or single. Lindstrom & Prins Thomas re-edited "Mighty Girl", but basically this is a new unearthed album. 1. Up The Bakerloo Line With Anne (18:48) 2. Return To BB City (8:26) 3. Tape Kebab (8:58) 4. Tony Wanna Go (14:31) 5. Geheim (half past one) (6:42) 6. Mighty Girl (8:41) The Heavy w/ the Dap-Kings - How You Like Me Now? 10" (Counter) .................................................. UK foursome, The Heavy, release their "How You Like Me Now?" EP today featuring the the baddest horn section in Brooklyn, the Dap-Kings on a couple songs including the heavily aired title track. You might recognize it from various ads and TV shows. Includes two new never released songs, 'Strong Enough' and 'Big Bad Wolf' as well as newly reworked version of 'That Kind Of Man'. The Matt Nowlin Jazz Orchestra - The Good News! (self) .................................................. The debut album from Bloomington ex-pat, the sublimely swinging Matt Nowlin Jazz Orchestra! Swing is a vibrant feeling rather than a bygone era for Nowlin. Influences from the most soulful names in jazz contribute deeply to the sound of this record. The Jimmy Crawford influenced two-feel is infused with Monk and Mingus. The blues informs every piece on the LP, just as it did for the Duke and the Count. In these eight tracks the band proves that the swing sound is not a museum piece, but a living and energizing context for new compositional ideas. Psychedelic Aliens - Psycho African Beat (Academy) .................................................. Like most stories involving aliens, this one seems made up. The complete recorded output of this amazing group and their unprecedented music that combined elements of American soul, funk, garage and psych with African rhythms and melodies. This magical moment lasted for 3 short years producing only 3 releases: One 4-song EP and 2 7"s. Today, these 3 original releases are the most sought after and most elusive African funk records. It took Frank Gossner 4 years, 9 visits to Ghana, and dozens of newspaper ads and radio announcements to track them down. Official release of these long lost gems, licensed directly from the band. CD/LP + booklet. Sharp! Keith Richards - Vintage Vinos (Mindless) .................................................. As we discovered in the pages of his autobiography LIFE, Keith Richards is proud of his great band. No, not that one. The X-Pensive Winos, the group he formed in 1987 when the Rolling Stones were on hiatus. The band had an A-list lineup with Steve Jordan and Charlie Drayton sharing duties on drums and bass, Waddy Wachtel - the American Keith Richards - on guitar, Ivan Neville on keys and the Stones frequent collaborator Bobby Keyes on saxophone. Sarah Dash, one-time member of Labelle, shared lead vocals with Richards, who played guitar and fronted the band. Richards three albums on which the X-pensive Winos appear are now out of print, but some of their best tracks are compiled here. Spacemen 3 - Taking Drugs To Make Music To Take Drugs To LP .................................................. Another classic from the late 80's psychedelic shoegaze scene, which has not been available on vinyl since it's initial release in 1987. The second LP is a BONUS clear vinyl LP with unreleased songs, early versions, and oddities. Full picture sleeve, heavyweight wax. Wingless Angels - Volumes I & II (Mindless) .................................................. Keith Richards is revisiting another decades-old project. Wingless Angels II, an album of Rastafarian spirituals, is the group's first release in 13 years. Richards began playing with Jamaican singer Justin Hinds in the early 70s, when he visited Kingston to record Goat's Head Soup with the Stones. Together with Hinds, a celebrated rocksteady musician, Richards jammed with neighbours and fishermen, exploring Rasta chants, Nyabinghi drumming and the country's devotional traditions. Hinds, former leader of ska group the Dominoes, died in 2005. And in the year before he died, Richards had once again been recording their collaborations, preparing for a possible release. The result is a world away from the Stones' blues rock. The drumming goes deeper than your bones. It's marrow music." VA - The Holidays Don't Have To Be So Rotten (Flannelgraph) .................................................. Its nearly December and that means its time to be jolly and/or merry. Local mirco-indie Flannelgraph hopes to put some kick into your nog with their special project this season. The cover depicts Old Man Marley aka The South Bend Shovel Slayer beeing reunited with his estranged family in the film Home Alone. Thirteen instrumental tracks from locals and related, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the charities chosen by each artist involved. Artists include but are not limited to: Memory Map, Mike Adams, Michael Tapscott (Odawas), Drekka, Sleeping Bag. .................................................. Each album has a review and enables you to listen to the entire album before you buy it. Give 'er a spin! Sufjan Stevens - The Age Of Adz (Asthmatic Kitty) .................................................. The Age of Adz (pronounced Odds) is Sufjan Stevens' first full-length collection of original songs since 2005's conceptual pop opus Illinois. This new album is probably his most unusual, first, for its lack of conceptual underpinnings, and second, for its extensive use of electronics. The result is an album that is perhaps more vibrant, more primary, and more explicit than anything Sufjan has done before. Antony & The Johnsons - Swanlights (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. Swanlights may be Antony's most wide-ranging emotional work to date. Whereas on The Crying Light, Antony paired everything back to its most distilled and essential, on Swanlights the vines have become overgrown and the sound palette has become more exotic, strange percussive elements, John Cale-esque string drones, heavily distorted guitars and symphonic voicings thread the song cycle together. It includes the song "Fletta", a duet with Bjork. Elton John & Leon Russell - The Union (Decca) .................................................. Produced by Oscar and multiple-Grammy winning producer T Bone Burnett, The Union was recorded live in the studio with Elton and Leon on dueling pianos. It features a variety of musical genres from R&B, soul, gospel, country, pop and rock, and includes selections written by Elton and his lifelong lyricist Bernie Taupin, as well as the combined incomparable songwriting team encompassing Leon, Elton, Bernie and T Bone. Leon first met Elton in 1970 when he attended Elton's first ever U.S. show at the Troubadour in Los Angeles. The meeting heralded the beginning of a long friendship and a mutual appreciation between the two artists. After years of being out of touch, the two finally decided to collaborate on The Union. Elvis Costello - National Ransom (Hear) .................................................. In a career that has spanned more than 30 years, Elvis Costello has distinguished himself as one of pop music's most prolific and versatile musicians. His latest work, National Ransom, produced by T Bone Burnett, features all members of The Imposters and The Sugarcanes performing a wide variety of new combos with guests Vince Gill, Marc Ribot, Buddy Miller and Leon Russell. Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On The Run (Hear) .................................................. Band On The Run is the first release in the Paul McCartney Archive Collection. Personally supervised by Paul, it has been digitally remastered at Abbey Road Studios in London. Originally released in 1973, Band On The Run was Paul McCartney & Wings most successful release. This Grammy Award-winning album featured 3 Top 10 hits and reached the #1 position on Billboard's Top Album Chart.
