Yup, its holiday season. You don't need us to tell you that. As always, we encourage you to do as much of your gift buying at local business as you can. Of course we want you to get everyone on your list the gift of music! We have a TON of great local music as well as dozens and dozens and dozens of titles on sale for $10 for the holidays. And free gift wrap and tags! Please note this is not -US- wrapping your gifts for you - believe me you do not want that - but rather we have gift paper available for you. As well as our amazing hand-screened LP gift wrap for a modest $5. Check out our selection of GOOD holiday music, too! We will be open til midday on Christmas Eve! We will reopen on Monday the 27th for normal hours. It's Back: Landlocked's Excellent Giftcard Upgrade Program! (aka LEG-UP) This holiday season, if you receive some gift cards that you don't want, stop by the shop & we'll take em & turn em into something you want to use - A Landlocked Gift Certificate! Just bring in your unwanted giftcards to the counter before you start shopping & we'll have a Landlocked gift certificate, or store credit, waiting for you when you check out that is equal to the amount ya traded in. And, let's face it, Best Buy's selection of Os Mutantes, Zero Boys, Sun Ra and Sonic Youth has dwindled lately - but ours hasn't! * LEG-UP * yes, of course there's a catch or 2... (1) The card must be from a chain competitor (Best Buy, Amazon, etc). Not Borders- they are out of biz! We don't take trade on indie stores' gift cards (Soma, Boxcar, Upland, etc) becuase we want you to support them too! We also don't take iTunes cards. Eww. But we'll take a card from Staples! (2) The card's value must be verifiable via phone, meaning we can only accept the card if it has a 1-800 number - usually on the back. (3) The gift card must not expire for at least 6 months from the date of exchange. .................................................. NEW ARRIVALS for December 14th .................................................. Khaira Arby - Timbuktu Tarab (Clermont) .................................................. 2010 Lotus Festival favorite! Khaira Arby may sing about local concerns, but the North Malian vocalist's music seems to be crafted for an international audience. She is a cousin of Ali Farka Toure, and like him, she seems to be on a conscious program to praise the righteous and uplift everyone else. Praise songs are as de rigeur in Mali as love songs in the USA, and Arby gives good words to the Almighty, a couple Malian ethnic groups, some historical figures, hard working salt miners, and "a beautiful girl from a good family." Like Oumou Sangare and Toure, Arby uses a mix of modern instruments - electric guitars, trap drums - and traditional instrumentation with cultural as well as acoustic resonance. The Decemberists - January Hymn 7" (Capitol) .................................................. Its December, that means its time for the Decemberists to release their new single - January Hymn! This is a new track off their upcoming album, The King is Dead, which coincidentally enough comes out on January 18th. We have a limited amount of this 7inch single which you can purchase for the super-low price of $2. It comes with a Grateful Dead cover on the B-side, and much like our recent Cee-Lo deal, bring in the coupon that you get with purchase and receive $2 off the Decemberists new CD, The King is Dead, when you buy it from Landlocked next month! Everyone wins! Limited quantity, restocked soon, we hope! Michael Jackson - Michael (Epic) .................................................. MICHAEL is the much anticipated album of newly completed recordings from Michael Jackson. The creative process never stopped for the King of Pop who was always planning for his next album; unbeknownst to many fans around the world Michael Jackson was writing and recording songs continuously everywhere from a friend's home in New Jersey to studios in Las Vegas and Los Angeles with a small group of handpicked collaborators. Now, through the unique stories that will be told about the songs that comprise MICHAEL, fans will get mind-blowing insight into how this artist worked and a chance to hear the songs he most recently created along with tracks that Michael had a desire to bring to fruition. Panda Bear - Last Night at the Jetty 7" (Fat Cat) .................................................. It's been four years since Panda Bear's released a record (Bros 12") on Fat Cat, one which paved the way for the stupendous, highly acclaimed Person Pitch. Adhering to his Pre-Tomboy 7" (vinyl exclusive) series, where he will release 4 singles on 4 labels (Fat Cat, Domino, Paw Tracks, Kompakt), Animal Collective's Noah Lennox has released this third installment -"Last Night At The Jetty" backed with "Drone". Noah's beautifully layered, honeyed vocal harmonies morphing across a fairly simple grid of wobbly guitar, a whip-crack metronome-beat and a scattering of electronic sounds and effects. Taking an uncluttered, less-is-more approach, the treatment allows Noah's voice to carry the song through a series of shifting melodies. Tame Impala - InnerSpeaker (Modular) .................................................. It isn't new, but hasn't been widely available, so we ordered a bunch direct from the band! Debut album from the Australian Rock trio. The album sounds like a mashup between Beatles Sgt Pepper & Caribou's Andorra. Recorded and produced by the band's own Kevin Parker with Death In Vegas's Tim Holmes on the engineer duties, in an enormous mansion with 180 degree views of the Indian Ocean. It was then mixed in upstate New York, by renowned sonic maverick Dave Fridmann (MGMT / Flaming Lips). The resultant record features the single 'Solitude Is Bliss', a joyous summertime romp through fields of honeyed harmony and crispy good times and is just the very tip of the amorphous cosmos that Tame Impala inhabit. VA - Rain Don't Fall On Me / In The Storm So Long LPs (Mississippi) .................................................. Rain Don't... is a compilation of prewar country blues & gospel. Features popular artists such as Blind Willie Johnson, Gary Davis, Bukka White, and Memphis Minnie alongside unfairly less documented artists. Could be viewed as a sequel to Mississippi's Last Kind Words compilation. Some heavy meditative songs and some dance numbers too. Storm So Long... is a compilation of gospel songs from the Pitch/Gussman label. Raw and ragged 60s & 70s recordings made in Georgia. Most tracks have a heavy guitar sound with loads of reverb. At times haunting and at times joyous. Real rockin' homemade music by and for the people. Old school "tip on" sleeve. Liner note sheet too. Great stuff. .................................................. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. Each album has a review and enables you to listen to the entire album before you buy it. Give 'er a spin! The Black Angels - Phosphene Dream (Blue Horizon) .................................................. Phosphene Dream marks a giant leap forward for The Black Angels. Produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Black Mountain) over a period of six months in Los Angeles, the album shows off both sonically and musically a bold new direction for the band, a fresh take on the neo-Psychedelic movement they've been at the forefront of for years. Cee Lo Green - The Lady Killer (Elektra) .................................................. Elektra recording artist Cee Lo Green's first solo work in more than six years sees the endlessly inventive singer/writer/rapper/producer continuing to push hip-hop and soul's creative envelope, this time working with a highly acclaimed and star-studded cast. Released recently via Green's official YouTube channel, the blockbuster first single "F**k You" caused an instant viral commotion, drawing more than 2 million plays in its first five days online. Along with its phenomenal popular success, the single has also received ecstatic critical acclamation from coast to coast. "One of the greatest songs in the history of humankind," declared The Dallas Observer's "DC9 At Night" music blog. The Greenhornes - 4 Stars (Warner Bros) .................................................. Third Man Records is excited to release The Greenhornes' first full length LP of new material since 2002's Dual Mono. This new album produced by The Greenhornes and John Curley may be their strongest collection of songs yet. It's diverse yet very concise, from the dark pop of lead single "Saying Goodbye," the bubble glam of "Song 13," to "Cave Drawings" moody psych; it's an eclectic and mature work and very much The Greenhornes own. Bruce Springsteen - The Promise (Columbia) .................................................. "Darkness was my 'samurai' record," Springsteen writes, "stripped to the frame and ready to rumble. But the music that got left behind was substantial." For the first time, fans will have access to The Promise - two discs containing a total of 21 previously-unreleased songs from the Darkness recording sessions - songs that, as Springsteen writes, "perhaps could have/should have been released after Born To Run and before the collection of songs that Darkness on the Edge of Town became." Daft Punk - TRON: Legacy Soundtrack (Walt Disney) .................................................. Grammy award-winning Daft Punk, who takes music as seriously as TRON fans take computer references, scored TRON: Legacy. It's no accident that the group's two visionary musicians are TRON fans, too. Having grown up with an admiration for the ground-breaking TRON film, the critically acclaimed French duo composed and produced the album. They assembled a symphony of 100 world class musicians in London and recorded the orchestra at Britain's premier scoring facility, AIR Lyndhurst Studios. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
