Everything is getting back to normal... New releases are picking up pace, students are back, the holiday sweets are gone. But rest assured - we still have sweet deals! Still tons of great releases for only $10 for the month of January. Social Distortion has a new album, Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes, hitting on January 18th. We have a CD single you can pick up for $2 that entitles you to $2 off the full length when we get it. Check it out. Landlocked's 5 year anniversary is rapidly approaching (hint: the perfect gift for 5 years is VINYL nyuk nyuk). We are throwing ourselves a party! Details very soon. NEW ARRIVALS for January 11th .................................................. British Sea Power - Valhalla Dancehall (Rough Trade) .................................................. Valhalla Dancehall is the band's 4th LP proper, following the Mercury-nominated Do You Like Rock Music? in 2008 and the Man Of Aran soundtrack in 2009. With its title, Valhalla Dancehall invokes a wild-eyed internationalism, alluding to both the Norse mythos and Jamaican discos to the Viking heaven and Caribbean goodtimes. BSP are maybe unlikely to be taking up residence in downtown Kingston, but the album title and the music it comes with are antidotes to limited horizons and parochial mindsets. Broken Records - Let Me Come Home (4AD) .................................................. Broken Records formed in 2007 in Edinburgh, Scotland. The seven members use their different musical backgrounds and a wide variety of instrumentation to compliment the eclectic sound they create. Their new album Let Me Come Home, was recorded in Glasgow with producer Tony Doogan (Mogwai, Delgados, Belle & Sebastian). Cage the Elephant - Thank You Happy Birthday (Jive) .................................................. The young five-piece from Bowling Green, KY accumulated 80 songs worth of ideas during a 2-year period touring around the globe and living abroad in England supporting their eponymous debut. As they began sorting through their arsenal of songs upon returning to Kentucky to record album two, they were unwavering in their devotion to making a record that reflected their vast musical growth and interests as a band. Cake - Showroom of Compassion (Upbeat) .................................................. Showroom of Compassion is Cake's first album of new material since 2004's Pressure Chief, and their sixth studio album overall. The album was recorded over the last two and a half years and was produced and engineered by the band themselves at Cake's own solar electric powered studio in Sacramento, CA. Circle X - s/t LP (Insolito) .................................................. Circle X was born out of the ashes of No Fun and the I-Holes as Louisville's first punk rock band. Once the lineup of Circle X solidified, the former punk band lunged headfirst into weirder, artier territory. Whether the big city's burgeoning No Wave scene influenced Circle X or they influenced the scene is unclear; what is clear, though, is that Circle X was the most unique, most mysterious, and most un-heralded band hailing from that place and time. They arrived in NY at the tail end of No Wave, at the same time that equally ornery bands like Swans and Sonic Youth were getting revved up. Circle X are every bit as distinctive and attitudinal as Throbbing Gristle, PiL, Theoretical Girls, DNA, or Mars, yet they don't much sound like any of them. Louis CK - Hilarious (Comedy Central) .................................................. In this unique and dynamic live concert experience, Louis C.K.'s exploration of life after 40 destroys politically correct images of modern life with thoughts we have all had... but would rarely admit to. Also available in DVD format. Off! - The First Four EPs 4x7" (Vice) .................................................. LA- based OFF! features Keith Morris (Black Flag/Circle Jerks), Dimitri Coats (Burning Brides), Steven McDonald (Redd Kross), and Mario Rubalcaba (Earthless/Hot Snakes/Rocket From the Crypt). Limited edition box set with cover designed by Raymond Pettibon contains four 7"s, each with an exclusive Raymond Pettibon designed sleeve, as well as a 12 page booklet with an introduction by Pettibon, exclusive photos and artwork celebrating the band and their individual legacies. Tapes N Tapes - Outside (ibid) .................................................. Outside is the perfect mix of their previous works, with a whole new clarity of sound. The first single, Freak Out, is a fast-paced romp with a shout-along chorus that is sure to delight fans both new and old. The twelve songs are unified by themes of longing and loneliness, and the journey of finding and losing love. There is a newfound space in Tapes 'n Tapes sound that is both intimate and distant at the same time. Combine that with a pervasive sense of joy throughout the whole record and what you hear is a band making music that they truly love. Tiny Tim - Lost and Found 1963-1974 LP (Secret Seven) .................................................. A collection of 17 incredibly obscure songs consisting of previously unreleased acetates, privately pressed 45s, and an early 60s studio session that was arranged by Milton Glaser. Contains tracks from Tiny's pre-fame years, when he was still known as Darry Dover; as well as material from his post-fame years, recorded between 1971-74. Furthermore, the material is unique because they both represent eras of desperation. The material from the 60s represents Tiny's years scraping by, performing in dives in Greenwhich Village and living with his parents who had written him off as mentally ill. The material from the early 70s, recorded while his mainstream career was in its decrescendo, is representative of a time in which the world saw that brightest stars burn out the fastest. However, it was during these eras of desperation that Tiny recorded some of the best, eclectic, and intriguing material of his career. Abigail Washburn - City of Refuge (Rounder) .................................................. In her relatively short musical career, Abigail has covered a lot of ground; both physically and metaphorically. Bouncing between China and Appalachia has informed much of her musical output and influenced a body of work that goes far beyond the usual claw hammer banjo repertoire. Her Rounder debut, City of Refuge is a sublime marriage of old-time and indie-pop. On the album Washburn pairs venerable folk elements with far-flung sounds, and the results feel both strangely familiar and unlike anything anybody's ever heard before. The album features My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel, Decemberists' Chris Funk, atmospheric jazz guitarist Bill Frisell, Old Crow Medicine Show's Ketch Secor and Morgan Jahnig, Wu Fei, master of the guzheng, and the Mongolian stringband Hanggai, who managed to contribute ambient throat-singing from halfway around the world. The Black Angels - Phosphene Dream (Blue Horizon) .................................................. Phosphene Dream marks a giant leap forward for The Black Angels. Produced and mixed by Dave Sardy (Oasis, Wolfmother, Black Mountain) over a period of six months in Los Angeles, the album shows off both sonically and musically a bold new direction for the band, a fresh take on the neo-Psychedelic movement they've been at the forefront of for years. Cee Lo Green - The Lady Killer (Elektra) .................................................. Elektra recording artist Cee Lo Green's first solo work in more than six years sees the endlessly inventive singer/writer/rapper/producer continuing to push hip-hop and soul's creative envelope, this time working with a highly acclaimed and star-studded cast. Released recently via Green's official YouTube channel, the blockbuster first single "F**k You" caused an instant viral commotion, drawing more than 2 million plays in its first five days online. Along with its phenomenal popular success, the single has also received ecstatic critical acclamation from coast to coast. "One of the greatest songs in the history of humankind," declared The Dallas Observer's "DC9 At Night" music blog. The Greenhornes - 4 Stars (Warner Bros) .................................................. Third Man Records is excited to release The Greenhornes' first full length LP of new material since 2002's Dual Mono. This new album produced by The Greenhornes and John Curley may be their strongest collection of songs yet. It's diverse yet very concise, from the dark pop of lead single "Saying Goodbye," the bubble glam of "Song 13," to "Cave Drawings" moody psych; it's an eclectic and mature work and very much The Greenhornes own. Bruce Springsteen - The Promise (Columbia) .................................................. "Darkness was my 'samurai' record," Springsteen writes, "stripped to the frame and ready to rumble. But the music that got left behind was substantial." For the first time, fans will have access to The Promise - two discs containing a total of 21 previously-unreleased songs from the Darkness recording sessions - songs that, as Springsteen writes, "perhaps could have/should have been released after Born To Run and before the collection of songs that Darkness on the Edge of Town became." Daft Punk - TRON: Legacy Soundtrack (Walt Disney) .................................................. Grammy award-winning Daft Punk, who takes music as seriously as TRON fans take computer references, scored TRON: Legacy. It's no accident that the group's two visionary musicians are TRON fans, too. Having grown up with an admiration for the ground-breaking TRON film, the critically acclaimed French duo composed and produced the album. They assembled a symphony of 100 world class musicians in London and recorded the orchestra at Britain's premier scoring facility, AIR Lyndhurst Studios. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
