Like Santa, your birthday only comes once a year. The first week of March is Landlocked Music's FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY! We are so excited that we're throwing our own party and doing it early, too. On Monday February 21st at The Bishop, Paul Collins / Half Rats / Charlie & the Skunks are playing. The first 100 people to come into Landlocked can pick up a FREE TICKET to the show! Living legend Paul Collins has been crafting power-pop gems for decades as a solo artist and in bands like The Nerves, The Breakaways and The Beat. You might know The Nerves from the original version of "Hanging on the Telephone", later made famous by Blondie. Bring your stamped ticket stub back to Landlocked and redeem it for $1 off any new or used CD or LP. Undeniable pop hooks for an unbelievably great night of music - you will not want to miss this! Music at 9PM and you have to be 18+ to enter The Bishop. Tickets $5 at the door. NEW ARRIVALS for February 1st .................................................. Bardo Pond - s/t (Fire) .................................................. Two decades of playing together have sandblasted away everything unessential and left us with what we have here. It was like no one else before them had ever gotten near the plagal cadence, not Lou Reed or the Stooges or 2,000 yrs of church music. They invented it all over again, independent of any of that, after gawd knows how many yrs of flailing away and burning themselves up. If Carl Sagan would have 1.) smoked a little more weed and 2.) not croaked, he would have cut a Bardo track onto that gold LP that they put on the Voyager units. Would've been a way better representation of the best parts of the human spirit than Chuck Berry. Recommended. Dirtbombs - Party Store (In the Red) .................................................. Nearly 10 yrs after their LP Ultraglide in Black helped kick-start a renewed interest in all things Detroit and rocknroll, The Dirtbombs release their companion piece. Where Ultraglide was a collection of 60s & 70s soul gems centered on the ideas of African-American identity and politics of the era that made an impression on a young Mick Collins as he listened to them on 45s in the family basement, Party Store is an assortment of live-band interpretations of classic Detroit techno music of the 80s and early 90s- songs Collins digested as they were originally released, when he was already making waves with garage-punk legends The Gories. All these themes encapsulate the climate of Detroit both now and at the time of their initial release. Let it be said clearly: this record addresses both the past and the future of Detroit. Ducktails - Arcade Dynamics (Woodsist) .................................................. The one-man psychedelic pop project of Matthew Mondanile, guitarist for New Jersey's Real Estate and, more importantly, a proud son of the mid-80s. At 22 years old, he started releasing his own cassette albums. His first 7" came out and was followed by a string of LPs, cassettes, and CDs on independent labels like Not Not Fun, Olde English Spelling Bee, Release the Bats, Arbor and Goaty Tapes. Now surrounded by a crew of young songwriters, Mondanile spends his time either touring or recording in the basement of his parent's house. Categorized by David Keenan as part of the "hypnagogic pop" movement, Ducktails realizes a shared cultural memory and nostalgia through various genres. Bobby Long - A Winter Tale (ATO) .................................................. Currently residing in New York City, the 24-year old Long has been writing finely-crafted songs since taking up the guitar at age 17; from then on he's been creating memorable songs inhabited by hauntingly poetic lyrics. After relocating to London from Wiltshire in the countryside of Southwest England, he became a fixture at London's open-mic nights while attending London Metropolitan University where he studied Music in Film and wrote his thesis on The Social Impact of American Folk Music. David Lowery - The Palace Guards (429) .................................................. After years of helping steer the lauded and eclectic careers of both of his bands, Cracker and Camper Van Beethoven, cofounder and frontman David Lowery presents a collection of songs recorded apart from those iconic alternative rock entities. Stopping short of calling it a solo record, Lowery has collaborated with a handful of trusted musical cohorts associated with his Richmond, Virginia-based studio, Sound of Music an inner circle that has Lowery has relied on for over seventeen years and who have been instrumental in helping create the sounds heard on this album as well as past projects. Bob Marley - Live Forever: Final Concert (Tuff Gong) .................................................. Recorded 30 years ago while Marley was touring in support of his album Uprising, Live Forever is Bob Marley's last recorded concert. This never before released collection offers an incredible snapshot of one of music's most influential performers. This concert contains unique performances of "No Woman No Cry," "Jammin'," and "Is This Love," to name a few, and depicts a musical innovator and inspiration to people of many cultures and generations. This spectacular performance also immortalizes the last song Marley ever performed live in concert: "Get Up Stand Up," his rally cry for equality. Murder by Death - Skeletons in the Closet 3LP (Tent Show) .................................................. Rarities, Alternates + Demos, Live from this Bloomington touring juggernaut. Three records on orange, blue, and white vinyl. Rarities- tracks they have never released, had limited releases of. Alternates and Demos- versions of songs that are extended, totally different recordings of songs, early demos so you can see how these hot jamz came together. Lo fi live- recordings from their first show, fun rowdy recordings of rock n roll sweatbox party shows, etc. Also now in stock, the 11LP box set of 5 albums and 3 EPs! North Mississippi Allstars - Keys to the Kingdom (Songs of the South) .................................................. A celebratory declaration of life in the face of death. The origins of the album are honest and raw: a father died and a child was born. Brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson lost their father, Jim Dickinson, only months before Luther became one. At the heart of the record is the journey that traverses thru the mirrored gates of life and death. Produced in absentia by their father, Keys To The Kingdom is the Allstars' finest collaboration. Seefeel - s/t (Warp) .................................................. Conceived by Mark Clifford and Sarah Peacock in the early 90s, Seefeel immediately became groundbreaking leaders of the divergent quasi-movement known as shoegaze, by amalgamating electronics in ways most of their peers in traditional bands would never dream of. They managed to fuse the early Acid House and techno sounds with guitar, drums and bass into urgent melodic waves that on early releases like Quique and Succour oscillated between hopefulness, introspection and downright menace. Now comes the new full length, as a new generation of young bands the world over look once again to building their own walls of sound, Seefeel stand ready again to play not only the inspired outsiders, but also the inspirational forerunners. Todd Snider - Live: The Storyteller (Aimless) .................................................. In 2009, Todd Snider releases 'The Excitement Plan', called the 'Finest album of his career' by The Associated Press and 'Brilliant' by The New Yorker. So, what s next for East Nashville's wisecracking, troublemaking troubadour? A live album like you've never heard before. Part Dylan and Kristofferson, part Mitch Hedberg and Bill Hicks, the outspoken Snider has long established his concerts are more than just a set list. 'The Storyteller', a new double-disc live album captures Snider in his true element; onstage before a rapt audience. Abigail Washburn - City of Refuge (Rounder) .................................................. In her relatively short musical career, Abigail Washburn has bounced between China and Appalachia, influencing her musical output and a body of work that goes far beyond the usual claw hammer banjo repertoire. City of Refuge is a sublime marriage of old-time and indie-pop. The album features My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel, The Decemberists' Chris Funk, Turtle Island Quartet's Jeremy Kittell, Bill Frisell, Kenny Malone, Old Crow Medicine Show's Ketch Secor and Morgan Jahnig, Wu Fei, master of the guzheng, and the Mongolian stringband Hanggai. City of Refuge offers an expansive palette of supple and modern textures resulting in a remarkably harmonious piece of art. The Decemberists - The King is Dead (Capitol) .................................................. A set of 10 concise, country-based songs--marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band's wildly ambitious and widely acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch on 7 tracks and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on 3 tracks. Available as CD, CD+DVD, CD+DVD+Book or LP! Seth Glier - The Next Right Thing (Mpress) .................................................. Seth Glier is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter/musician from Massachusetts who's established himself nationally performing over 200 shows a year. His sophomore album from MPress Records, The Next Right Thing, is reminiscent of Billy Joel and Elton John. Glier's sophisticated, contemporary edge will appeal to fans of David Gray, Gavin DeGraw and Brandon Flowers. Produced by Seth Glier & Ryan Hommel; Mixed by Grammy (C) Winner Kevin Killen (Elvis Costello, Prince) and John Shyloski (Stephen Kellogg). Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean (Warner Bros) .................................................. It's been 3+ years since Iron & Wine's last studio effort, The Shepherd's Dog, which was widely praised by fans and critics alike. While Beam's early albums were sparse, intimate solo affairs, Shepherd's introduced layered textures and poly-rhythmic sounds that allowed his lyrics to spring to life. It's only natural then, that Beam took this sonic collage and built upon it for his new album, Kiss Each Other Clean. The result is a brighter, more focused record that retains the idiosyncratic elements that make Iron & Wine such an engaging band. Wanda Jackson - The Party Ain't Over (Nonesuch) .................................................. The Queen of Rockabilly presents her debut disc for Third Man/Nonesuch Records. The Party Ain't Over is a collection of vintage and contemporary covers produced by fan and new-found friend Jack White at his Nashville studio recorded with a late-night honky-tonk feel by members of My Morning Jacket, the Raconteurs, and Dead Weather, among others. The White-curated lineup of tunes showcases all the various types of music that Wanda has done through the years. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
