Adele - 21 (Columbia) .................................................. This new collection of songs showcases the growth of this incredible artist, who at the very young age of 22, exhibits the poise of a seasoned veteran. Adele's music takes some new direction while staying true to her signature style. "I discovered lots of artists I'd never heard of, particularly Wanda Jackson, Allison Krauss, Yvonne Fair, Andrew Bird, Neko Case, Lady Antebellum and Steel Drivers who I fell in love with. Then I delved in to more from artists I've loved forever - Mary J. Blige, Kanye West, Elbow, Mos Def, Alanis Morissette, Tom Waits and Sinead O'Connor. There's something in every single one of these artists that have really really inspired 21." Johnny Cash - Bootleg Vol 2 (Legacy) .................................................. Featuring previously unreleased and incredibly hard-to-find singles, demos and other rarities recorded from 1955 through the late 60s, Bootleg, Volume 2: From Memphis To Hollywood chronicles his exciting rise from local sensation to an artist of national importance, his songs reaching millions through best-selling albums and hit movies. The 57-track collection is a boon for collectors with 16 never issued recordings, plus 11 singles and 11 outtakes. The Cave Singers - No Witch (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. The Cave Singers spend a good deal of time beyond the darkened edges of Seattle, in the mist and mystic, among the wolves and redwoods. And their songs, at least on record, have always been like beautiful, faded grayscale photos of this hinterland. Now, these photos are injected with hot blood and technicolor, a ferocity and bite we've yet to see from the band. No Witch is a new found sheen to the aura that made Cave Singers' music so special to begin with. Danielson - Best of Gloucester County (Sounds Familyre) .................................................. The whole represents a new and welcome chapter in the Danielson oeuvre a startlingly effective new band, a new thematic field produced with more sonic ambition than any recent Danielson effort, but without sacrificing the brave interior journey that we have come to expect from Daniel Smith: the world is complex, slightly dangerous, full of temptations, but there is still grace, beauty, meaning, and the music that is required to suggest all this is anything but easy, but that doesn't mean it is not rewarding, beautiful, funny, sad, and generous. Gil Scott-Heron & Jamie XX - We're New Here (XL) .................................................. What happens when one of the most exciting young producers around reworks one of the most acclaimed albums from a true legend? The result is We're New Here which sees Jamie from The XX re-imagining the I'm New Here sessions of Gil Scott-Heron. In February 2010, Gil Scott-Heron released I'm New Here, his first album in Meanwhile, the last eighteen months have been meteoric for Jamie XX. His band The XX's debut album (which Jamie produced) received huge acclaim, picking up 2010's prestigious Mercury Music Prize. G. Love - Fixin to Die (Brushfire) .................................................. It all starts at a chance meeting one rainy, fall night, when the Avett Brothers invite G. Love onto their tour bus after a gig to share their love of back road blues. This mutual affinity leads to G. Love sharing the stage with The Avetts at a festival both are playing. The collaboration, sounding so natural and right, deepens, so much so, eventually G. Love asks the Avetts to not only play on his new record, but to produce it as well. The result is a collection of traditionals and a slew of originals, all sharing a common goal: to strip away all pretense and capture the original spirit and sound G. Love has cultivated over his entire career but never fully embraced until now. Free bonus 7" while supplies last! Malachai - Return to the Ugly Side (Domino) .................................................. Return To The Ugly Side is the follow up to their debut Ugly Side Of Love. Whilst maintaining their chopped up sound - a unique combination of 60's pop-psych and hip-hop with a twist - Return To The Ugly Side sees a more cohesive, grown up Malachai in all their fervent duality; tunes/beats, past/present, dread/hope, ugly/beautiful... With Return To The Ugly Side, Malachai have made another classic. Puro Instinct - Headbangers in Ecstacy (Mexican Summer) .................................................. Last year, Mexican Summer came under the spell of the Kaplan sisters: Piper & Skylar, and their band Pearl Harbor, who graced the land with their beautific Something About the Chapparrals EP. Funny how time flies for the beyond their year siblings, as it's suddenly 2011 and Pearl Harbor now goes by the name of Puro Instinct. Now Piper and Sky find themselves bolstered by 4 bandmates to make their hazy, swirling pop even more realized and sumptuous. Sean Rowe - Magic (Anti) .................................................. On the song Night, from Sean Rowe's forthcoming ANTI debut, Magic, the singer turns his rich, unnerving baritone to a moment of childhood innocence. Back then, he muses, you could fall like a floating leaf, and the earth would look up at you and smile. Rowe's deep, magical voice is nothing if not wise and experienced; he knows full well that after the innocence comes the fall. This ability to conjure dueling emotions the elation of childhood versus the bruising of real life marks the arrival of a skilled lyricist and songwriter, in the tradition of Van Morrison and Leonard Cohen. Six Organs of Admittance - Asleep on the Floodplain (Drag City) .................................................. After 2009's sonically dense Luminous Night, Ben returned to the familiar environs of home recording to sculpt and assemble this batch of jams, freeing himself from the restrictions and deadlines studios might normally impose upon a song. Thus creating a living nest in which this material could grow and breathe, the album took longer to complete but sounds effortless and bright with light. Much of Asleep On The Floodplain draws on imagery from Chasny's youth, a time spent in Elk River. Slug Guts - Howlin Gang (Sacred Bones) .................................................. Slug Guts hail from the barren, heat stricken confines of Brisbane, Australia, a town as desolate as it is depressing and suburban. Slug Guts began when four degenerates had little else to do but form a band in the tradition of Pussy Galore, X (Australia not LA), and Birthday Party. In the first four months of the band Slug Guts recorded their first LP Down on the Meat which was released on Stained Circles Records (Jay Reatard, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dirtbombs). Recommended! Toro y Moi - Underneath the Pine (Carpark) .................................................. Underneath The Pine is an album evocative of R.Stevie Moore's homespun ruminations, David Axelrod's sonic scope, Steve Reich-ian piano phrasing, and the pervasive funk of Toro Y Moi's first record. Underneath the Pine announces a new phase for an artist whose talent defies classification. Vernon Wray - Wasted LP (Drag City) .................................................. 37 years ago Link Wray's older brother, Vernon, released his only album. With Link and his band providing the backing, Vernon recorded this gem of an album of country and folk influenced originals that was completely overlooked at the time. The musicians are stellar and the mostly acoustic arrangements fit the songs exactly. The appearance of a flute on one song cements the album in the early 70s time period while still managing to sound appropriate. Vernon's deep voice is mixed right up front where it belongs, the lyrics are heartfelt and topical and even those who aren't Link Wray completists will find much to like about this. Abigail Washburn - City of Refuge (Rounder) .................................................. In her relatively short musical career, Abigail Washburn has bounced between China and Appalachia, influencing her musical output and a body of work that goes far beyond the usual claw hammer banjo repertoire. City of Refuge is a sublime marriage of old-time and indie-pop. The album features My Morning Jacket's Carl Broemel, The Decemberists' Chris Funk, Turtle Island Quartet's Jeremy Kittell, Bill Frisell, Kenny Malone, Old Crow Medicine Show's Ketch Secor and Morgan Jahnig, Wu Fei, master of the guzheng, and the Mongolian stringband Hanggai. City of Refuge offers an expansive palette of supple and modern textures resulting in a remarkably harmonious piece of art. The Decemberists - The King is Dead (Capitol) .................................................. A set of 10 concise, country-based songs--marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the band's wildly ambitious and widely acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch on 7 tracks and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck on 3 tracks. Available as CD, CD+DVD, CD+DVD+Book or LP! Seth Glier - The Next Right Thing (Mpress) .................................................. Seth Glier is a 22-year-old singer/songwriter/musician from Massachusetts who's established himself nationally performing over 200 shows a year. His sophomore album from MPress Records, The Next Right Thing, is reminiscent of Billy Joel and Elton John. Glier's sophisticated, contemporary edge will appeal to fans of David Gray, Gavin DeGraw and Brandon Flowers. Produced by Seth Glier & Ryan Hommel; Mixed by Grammy (C) Winner Kevin Killen (Elvis Costello, Prince) and John Shyloski (Stephen Kellogg). Iron & Wine - Kiss Each Other Clean (Warner Bros) .................................................. It's been 3+ years since Iron & Wine's last studio effort, The Shepherd's Dog, which was widely praised by fans and critics alike. While Beam's early albums were sparse, intimate solo affairs, Shepherd's introduced layered textures and poly-rhythmic sounds that allowed his lyrics to spring to life. It's only natural then, that Beam took this sonic collage and built upon it for his new album, Kiss Each Other Clean. The result is a brighter, more focused record that retains the idiosyncratic elements that make Iron & Wine such an engaging band. Wanda Jackson - The Party Ain't Over (Nonesuch) .................................................. The Queen of Rockabilly presents her debut disc for Third Man/Nonesuch Records. The Party Ain't Over is a collection of vintage and contemporary covers produced by fan and new-found friend Jack White at his Nashville studio recorded with a late-night honky-tonk feel by members of My Morning Jacket, the Raconteurs, and Dead Weather, among others. The White-curated lineup of tunes showcases all the various types of music that Wanda has done through the years. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
