Looks like we finally made it, March! We couldn't be more pleased to be done with winter. Not much news to report to the troops today, just lots of great new music. You know, the usual. NEW ARRIVALS for March 1st .................................................. Alexander - s/t (Vagrant) .................................................. Alexander Ebert, lead singer of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, releases his debut solo album. There isn't a single sound on the 10 song album that Alexander didn't perform himself. Alone in his room, he had his guitar, a Lowery organ he picked up at a thrift store in Los Angeles for seventy bucks, a clarinet he used for the bridge on the record's first single, "Truth," and a violin he'd found somewhere in Tucson on tour. He had his own voice, his breath, his knees to slap, his fingers to snap and his toes to tap. Beady Eye - Different Gear, Still Speeding (Dangerbird) .................................................. Debut album from this band made up of Liam Gallagher, Gem Archer and Andy Bell from Oasis. Features 13 brand new songs written by the band and recorded in autumn 2010 with producer Steve Lillywhite. Beady Eye is raw rock one minute, and classic pop the next from the raucous Jerry Lee Lewis and Stones inspired "Bring The Light" to the Merseybeat wonder of "For Anyone," to the stomping T-Rex glam of "The Roller" to the pounding "Millionaire" and "Four Letter Word." Big Head Todd and the Monsters - 100 Years of Robert Johnson (Big) .................................................. This is the kind of record that Big Head Todd and the Monsters have always wanted to make. Five days recording in Memphis at the famous Ardent Studios with some of the bands biggest musical heroes playing some of Todd's favorite material. This record is a tribute to the late Robert Johnson to celebrate his centennial and is produced by Grammy winning producer Chris Goldsmith. Guest musicians include such greats as BB King, Hubert Sumlin, David "Honeyboy" Edwards, Charlie Musselwhite, Ruthie Foster, Cedric Burnside and Lightnin' Malcolm. Anna Calvi - s/t (Domino) .................................................. The stunning debut of guitarist and vocalist Anna Calvi. Brian Eno championed her as the most visionary female artist since Patti Smith, Nick Cave has taken her and her band on tour in Europe with Grinderman and Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey's right hand studio man) produced the album with her. Her playing is inspired by Django Rheinhart as much as Hendrix and her singing style is Nina Simone with a bit Maria Callas- her sound is a passionate and incredibly original mix. DeVotchka - 100 Lovers (Anti) .................................................. For more than a decade, DeVotchKa has melded its influences from Eastern European wedding bands to Norteno ballads into an authentic and totally original blend of popular music. The band's haunting, romantic sound evokes timeless images, attracting thousands of fans to their sold-out live shows. DeVotchKa's sound has proved particularly attractive to filmmakers, who have used their songs to score many films, most famously Little Miss Sunshine, for which they received a Grammy nod. The band returns to the epic settings of the Arizona desert with producer Craig Schumacher (Calexico, Neko Case). Dum Dum Girls - He Gets Me High EP (Sub Pop) .................................................. LA-based Dum Dum Girls follow up their fuzzy, girl group-inspired debut with an EP composed of three originals and a cover of swooning Smiths' classic "There Is A Light That Never Goes Out." Lead singer/songwriter Dee Dee, Richard Gotteher (who also worked on I Will Be and is best known for penning "My Boyfriend's Back" and "I Want Candy"), and Sune Rose Wagner of the Raveonettes produced the EP. Eisley - The Valley (Equal Vision) .................................................. Promising to bring listeners through the band's darkest and most trying times, The Valley reveals their strength, patience and perseverance. On tracks like "Smarter" and "Sad," there's a musical aggression and emotional urgency that transports you to the moment they were written, laying bare the open wound of the broken heart. Left Lane Cruiser - Junkyard Speed Ball (Alive) .................................................. Junkyard Speed Ball brings in the elements of the heavy, heart thumping, trash blues stomp they're known for, but it also showcases a wider range, with some slower numbers that will make you groove. Recorded in Detroit by Jim Diamond, LLC is joined by none other than Reverend James Leg of the Black Diamond Heavies playing keyboard on five songs, with his distinctive style undoubtedly bringing a new color to the duo sound. Formed by Freddy J. Evans IV (guitar/vocals) and Brenn "Sausage Paw" Beck (drums/vocals), and hailing from Fort Wayne IN. Lumerians - Transmalinnia (Partisan) .................................................. Inspired by the transcendental visions of artist and poet Eugene Von Bruenchenchein, the album takes its name from his cosmic fingerpainting that illuminates the cover. While the sound palette evokes primitive analog witchery, Lumerians hunger for the future. As sensitive to texture and repetition as an electronic act, the band is propelled by voodoo rhythms, stripped-down organ psych and fuzzed out space disco, travelling freely through worlds both vaguely familiar and largely uncharted. Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes (Atlantic) .................................................. Channeling the demise of The Shangri-La's Leader of the Pack, women under the influence, ladies and gentlemen of the canyon, a Kung-fu Marianne Faithful, and an armed Nancy Sinatra on peyote, Lykke Li has created an album that sounds like no other. Packed full of pounding, voodoo drums, girl group vocals, sparkling guitar lines, woozy keyboards, love unrequited, hope reignited and her own very powerful voice, sounding bigger and bolder than ever before. A testament to Lykke Li's brilliant musical voice, one unlike any other. Middle Brother - s/t (Partisan) .................................................. The lead singers of Deer Tick, Dawes, and Delta Spirit come together to form Middle Brother. McCauley, Goldsmith, Vasquez - 3 songwriters with an amazing sense of purpose, balancing themes of their own playful self-indulgence with humbler notes of heartbreak and hope. Alt-country folk mixed with soulful rock n roll. Middle Brother is the master collaborative event finally risen out of the roots of their genre. Buddy Miller - The Majestic Silver Strings (New West) .................................................. Buddy's reimagination of classic country songs with unrestrained guitars, atmosphere and attitude. Buddy and the 3 acclaimed guitarists Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot and Greg Leisz together push each song into a new cosmos warped in reverb. Guest vocalists include Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Lee Ann Womack, Chocolate Genius and Julie Miller. Papercuts - Fading Parade (Sub Pop) .................................................. Jason Quever's beautiful songwriting is thoughtful, evocative, subtle, and simultaneously ambitious. Crafted over the course of several months in Sacramento with Thom Monahan, and at Quever's own studio, Fading Parade is meticulously designed pop music, with a fully developed sense of space and a sturdy wall of sound. Imagine Belle & Sebastian teaming up with Slowdive and recording with Phil Spector back when he was killing it in the studio rather than, well, you know. Fading Parade is Papercuts' first album for Sub Pop. Rural Alberta Advantage - Departing (Saddle Creek) .................................................. The band further refines the exuberant guitar work; everything-on-the-table singing; songwriting full of conviction and detail; and majestic, keyboard-sprinkled arrangements that have won it so many fans. Departing strings together themes of small towns, Canadian fall and winter, breakup, and redemption and serves as a companion piece to their beloved debut album Hometowns. Coming to Btown this spring at The Bishop! Those Dancing Days - Daydreams & Nightmares (Wichita) .................................................. New release from the Swedish indie popsters. Recorded over the past year with producer Patrik Berger (known for his recent work with Robyn) in Stockholm. The tracks show a distinct evolution in sound from the charming indie pop of their debut. While maintaining the evocative vivacity of that debut, the 5 young women (all aged 20-22) of Those Dancing Days have added broadened dynamics and a playful ferocity to the songs on Daydreams and Nightmares. Filled with soaring choruses led by singer Linnea Jonsson's honeyed vocals, the songs are in many ways about all kinds of dreams, nightmares, and wishes. Lucinda Williams - Blessed (Lost Highway) .................................................. Considered by many to be one of America's greatest living songwriters, Williams lives up to that and more by delivering 12 songs that cover an even wider emotional spectrum than her previous work, without moving too far in any one direction. Blessed features special guests Rami Jaffe on keyboards, Matthew Sweet on vocals Greg Leisz and Elvis Costello on guitar. Bright Eyes - The People's Key (Saddle Creek) .................................................. The People's Key- the band's seventh studio album- is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007's acclaimed Cassadaga. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott, with additional musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People's Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which Oberst is renowned. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Tao Of The Dead (Superball) .................................................. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead return with their seventh full-length release, a surprisingly forceful yet sophisticated album that evokes a refreshing nostalgia (paying a faithful homage to Pink Floyd, Rush, Steppenwolf and even Neu!). Adele - 21 (Columbia) .................................................. 21 is the eagerly awaited sophomore album from British singer-songwriter Adele, and the follow- up to her critically acclaimed, award winning debut album 19. Renowned for her incredibly unique vocal ability and songwriting, Adele's debut received two Grammy Awards in 2009 (Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) as well as a BRIT Award in 2008 (Critics Choice). This new collection of songs on 21 showcases the growth of this incredible artist, who at the very young age of twenty two, exhibits the poise of a seasoned veteran. Adele's music takes some new direction while staying true to her signature style. "Rolling in the Deep" is the pounding, energetic first single. Bayside - Killing Time (Wind-Up) .................................................. "Take one part Weezer tunefulness and one part Nirvana aggression, add a dash of Green Day's ambition, then shake, serve, rock out." - Maxim. The band's 5th studio recording, three of which debuted on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Their touring success has led to a devoted, almost cult-like, fan base which is where their "Bayside is a Cult" slogan stems from. The 10-track album was produced by the legendary Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Pixies). -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://myspace.com/landlockedbton or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
