Only 300 copies being made worldwide, with lovingly handmade artwork from Ultralinear Arts and In Case of Emergency Press. Davila 666 - Tan Bajo (In the Red) .................................................. Hailing from San Juan, Puerto Rico, Davila 666 plays fierce Spanish-language Garage-Pop with gang vocals, tambourines, pop hooks, guitar licks and even a touch of Psych here and there. Elements of early Stones, Jesus and the Mary Chain, Dead Boys and '60s girl groups are all evident in Davila's sound. As soon as they began recording tracks for Tan Bajo, the band realized the sounds they were making were darker and more Psychedelic than their previous output. Though it retains the pop and rock 'n' roll one would expect, Tan Bajo is Davila 666's most cohesive release to date. Playing at The Bishop April 9th! Dodos - No Color (French Kiss) .................................................. The drums hit you in the chest first, spraying your speakers like swift gunshots. But then Meric Long's finger-picked chords kick in, cascading across Logan Kroeber's brass knuckle beats like only the best Dodos songs can. The main focus of No Color was to bottle the frenzied folk approach that's been there since the beginning. And it works damn well, from the dagger-drawing dynamics and the brain-burrowing choruses of "Black Night" to the hairpin turns and splashy percussion of "Good." And there are the songs that'll make you want to dub old episodes of 120 minutes, including the instrumental break of "Don't Stop" and the sneak attack solo that weaves its way around the steely rhythms of "Don't Try and Hide It". Bob Geldof - How To Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell (Vagrant) .................................................. Geldof has always said that from being a child in the 60s he has had two interests, music and politics, and this from a time "when the two were inseparable'. As a result he says he "understands and articulates the world through the rhetoric of rock n roll". It seems to help him "frame his experiences and helps to make them understandable". Whereas on his last album Geldof mourned the grief and loss and rage that is the end of love, in this he celebrates its re-birth. He seems entirely bemused by this miracle of renewal. This is the man after all who 35 years ago wrote "Looking After No.1"! The 58 year old realises that that just isn't enough. No preening or posturing. Honest, funny, tender essentially human stuff. Joy Formidable - The Big Roar (Atlantic) .................................................. An album aptly named "Big Roar", since this is the sonic equivalent of a huge musical force building up to maximum power and unleashing a true wave of Welsh energy. Overall "The Big Roar" is a supremely confident debut LP from a band that is realising its promise, they are a force of nature in concert and they have finally achieved parity on record. RIYL: Sugarcubes, Editors, riffs. Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears - Scandalous (Lost Highway) .................................................. The sophomore album from Austin, TX-based garage soul ensemble. Produced by Jim Eno of Spoon, Scandalous finds the young band returning with their modern and original take on classic American musical styles. There are still plenty of tight horns and hard-driving rhythms, but the new album is a decidedly more diverse and contemporary offering than its predecessor. Gospel punk burner "You Been Lyin'" fits squarely alongside the country blues of "Messin'" and the Stax-meets-Stones soul of "Since I Met You Baby." Little Wings - Black Grass (Rad) .................................................. Black Grass is Kyle Field's most honest and revealing work to date. It is the distillation into its very essence of over a decade's worth of stunningly beautiful song-craft on Field's part. This is a haunting, understated, and deeply personal work. The music is woven in the scenery in which it is createdÑ be it the natural kingdom that was San Luis Obispo, or the pervasive, stubborn fog of San Francisco. In the lyrics we hear the natural world, the seasons, and our interactions with them merge into and become one other. Even the title seems both an environmental and an emotional state. In Black Grass we hear fragility and durability, we hear the paradox of personal growth. Driven to look unflinchingly into himself and at the world around him in the fall season, Field has produced work that is as sincere in its moments of aching and decay as it is in its moments of triumph and rebirth. Steve Martin & the Steep Canyon Rangers - Rare Bird Alert (Rounder) .................................................. Renaissance man Steve Martin returns to his musical passion - bluegrass - with a new album of all original songs, backed by the Steep Canyon Rangers. Rare Bird Alert is the follow up to 2009's Grammy Award-winning The Crow and features precise picking, delightful melodies, and well constructed lyrics, the hallmarks of Martin's musical pursuits. Special guests, Paul McCartney and the Dixie Chicks lend their vocal talents, respectively, to "Best Love" and "You". J Mascis - Several Shades of Why (Sub Pop) .................................................. Nearly all acoustic, Several Shades of Why was created with the help of a few friends. Notable amongst them are Kurt Vile, Sophie Trudeau (Silver Mt Zion), Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene), Ben Bridwell (Band of Horses), Pall Jenkins (Black Heart Procession) and Matt Valentine (The Golden Road). Together in small mutable groupings, they conjure up classic sounds ranging from English-tinged folk to drifty, West Coast-style singer/songwriterism. But every track, every note even, bears that distinct Mascis watermark, both in the shape of the tunes and the glorious rasp of the vocals. Ten brilliant tunes that quietly grow and expand until they fill your brain with the purest pleasure. Noah and the Whale - Last Night on Earth (Island) .................................................. From the joyous burst of their debut through the lovelorn sobriety of The First Days of Spring, it now reaches a kind of fruition on Last Night on Earth. Last Night On Earth was co-produced by lead singer Charlie Fink and Jason Lader [Julian Casablancas, The Mars Volta] in Los Angeles. The album features backing vocals by Jen Turner from Here We Go Magic and gospel vocals by the legendary Waters Sisters, who famously provided backing vocals for Michael Jackson's untouchable hit "Wanna Be Starting Something." Elsewhere, the record features Adam MacDougall of The Black Crowes on Moog and Rhodes, and legendary percussionist Lenny Castro. Oh Land - s/t (Epic) .................................................. Once a classically trained ballet dancer hailing from Copenhagen, Denmark, Oh Land is taking the blogosphere by storm with her unique brand of electro pop. After releasing a bedroom recorded album in Denmark, she was discovered by while playing a self-booked show at SXSW in 2009. The jungle drumming electro-pop of songs like White Nights evokes a quest to find peace and a sense of home in the chaos of a city that never sleeps. The speaker-panning samples and honeyed hooks of Dan Carey (The Kills, Franz Ferdinand, Hot Chip) and Dave McCracken (Depeche Mode, Beyonce, AFI) along with Oh Land have created an album of rich harmonies, beautiful symphonic arrangements over the enchanting voice of Oh Land. Bright Eyes - The People's Key (Saddle Creek) .................................................. The People's Key- the band's seventh studio album- is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007's acclaimed Cassadaga. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott, with additional musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People's Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which Oberst is renowned. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Tao Of The Dead (Superball) .................................................. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead return with their seventh full-length release, a surprisingly forceful yet sophisticated album that evokes a refreshing nostalgia (paying a faithful homage to Pink Floyd, Rush, Steppenwolf and even Neu!). Adele - 21 (Columbia) .................................................. 21 is the eagerly awaited sophomore album from British singer-songwriter Adele, and the follow- up to her critically acclaimed, award winning debut album 19. Renowned for her incredibly unique vocal ability and songwriting, Adele's debut received two Grammy Awards in 2009 (Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) as well as a BRIT Award in 2008 (Critics Choice). This new collection of songs on 21 showcases the growth of this incredible artist, who at the very young age of twenty two, exhibits the poise of a seasoned veteran. Adele's music takes some new direction while staying true to her signature style. "Rolling in the Deep" is the pounding, energetic first single. Middle Brother - s/t (Partisan) .................................................. The lead singers of Deer Tick, Dawes, and Delta Spirit come together to form Middle Brother. McCauley, Goldsmith, Vasquez - 3 songwriters with an amazing sense of purpose, balancing themes of their own playful self-indulgence with humbler notes of heartbreak and hope. Alt-country folk mixed with soulful rock n roll. Middle Brother is the master collaborative event finally risen out of the roots of their genre. Bayside - Killing Time (Wind-Up) .................................................. "Take one part Weezer tunefulness and one part Nirvana aggression, add a dash of Green Day's ambition, then shake, serve, rock out." - Maxim. The band's 5th studio recording, three of which debuted on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Their touring success has led to a devoted, almost cult-like, fan base which is where their "Bayside is a Cult" slogan stems from. The 10-track album was produced by the legendary Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Pixies). -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
