NEW ARRIVALS for March 22nd .................................................. Belong - Common Era (Kranky) .................................................. Both the time invested, and the wait, have been well rewarded with this return. Common Era shows extraordinary progression from that first album of dense, scorched earth instrumentals, hints of a new direction having been revealed on the Colorless Record EP from 2008. The new material has such common pop elements as songs, vocals and drum machines, but the results could hardly be called conventional and are like little else happening on the current scene. The songs themselves are akin to radio transmissions received from another time and place, just as likely to be the future as the past, or even from a contemporary alternate universe. They are both passionate and dispassionate, grey yet technicolor, ghostly and palpable, distant yet immediate, grainy and focused. Upon listening these conceptual contradictions are dismissed with ease, as the recordings reveal that they fit all of these descriptors simultaneously, an extraordinary balancing act. Maggie Bjorkland - Coming Home (Bloodshot) .................................................. The Danish singer/pedal steel guitarist's debut solo album is drawn very much from a familiar source, culling Maggie's warm folksy style together with the contributions of musicians like Calexico, Mark Lanegan, and Jon Auer (Posies). It straddles delirium and ecstacy, when the vultures circling overhead look like doves. Psychedelic desert pop music. It's the sound of a bead of condensation rolling down a beer glass at a grimy cantina. It's the sound of the glare off the windshield when you turn the '67 Caddy west. The sound after the gunfight. James Blake - s/t (Universal) .................................................. Debut album from the runner-up in the BBC's 'Sound Of 2011' poll. The London-based Dubstep artist's album reflects his famously eclectic style. Featuring a blend of electronic production and more traditional recording techniques, this fusion is most obvious on Feist cover, 'Limit To Your Love', which is also the album's first single. Blake is heavily influenced by artists such as The XX, and claims their success has made it easier for others to understand his music. Vinyl version mid-April. Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl (Premier) .................................................. Winner of Billboard Magazine's #1 Blues Artist Of 2010 award. Dust Bowl combines the gritty, blues-based tones of Bonamassa's first albums with the fluid, genre-defying sounds he's mastered in the years since, plus a dose of Nashville in duets with legends John Hiatt and Vince Gill. Dust Bowl, producer Kevin Shirley explains, is very firmly rooted in the Blues, but definitely explores the outer reaches of the genre and showcases Joe's amazing virtuosity as he digs deep into his psyche in some lengthy and blistering guitar solos. Eulogies - Tear the Fences Down (Dangerbird) .................................................. Following up 2009's much-loved, Here Anonymous, that most notably contained the tune, Two Can Play, featuring Nikki Monninger of the Silversun Pickups, Eulogies third full-length album is penned by band guitarist/vocalist Peter Walker and dedicated to Pablo Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird label head, Jeff Castelaz who passed away in 2009 from a rare form of cancer. The Lonely Forest - Arrows (Trans) .................................................. At its core, The Lonely Forest features John Van Deusen's soaring vocals and keyboard melodies wrapped tightly around Tony Ruland's expansive guitar anchored by a heavy yet nimble rhythm section. Arrows contrasts brilliant pop songs to an almost prog-rock sensibility, featuring lyrics about spiritual longing. Trans Records is the new label founded by Chris Walla (Death Cab for Cutie). The Strokes - Angles (RCA) .................................................. Angles is the band s first new release since 2006's First Impressions of Earth and marks the ambition of that album with the immediacy of the band s earlier albums Is This It (2001) and Room On Fire (2003). In 2010, the band returned to the road, playing and headlining major festivals in the United States and UK, including the Isle of Wight Festival, Lollapalooza, Hurricane Festival, Splendour In The Grass, Rockness, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits. We Are Hex - Twist the Witch's Titty 7" (Third Man) .................................................. Indianapolis' own We Are Hex. Since 2009 We Are Hex has written and recorded on their own frequency from their home and studio, The Hex Hause. Described somewhere between The Stooges and The Cure, We Are Hex is scratching, creeping, dirty slop - refreshingly raw, honest and urgent. Needless to say, we dig it a lot. They've also given us perhaps the best song titles on Third Man so far "Twist The Witch's Titty" and "Through The Doldrums To The Dum Dums". Produced by Jack White. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. The 5.6.7.8's - Sho-Jo-Ji 7" (Third Man) Pokey LaFarge - Chittlin Cookin Time in Cheatham County 7" (Third Man) Also Released This Week .................................................. Bright Eyes - The People's Key (Saddle Creek) .................................................. The People's Key- the band's seventh studio album- is the eagerly awaited follow-up to 2007's acclaimed Cassadaga. Since 2006 the once revolving cast of Bright Eyes players has settled around permanent members Conor Oberst, Mike Mogis and Nate Walcott, with additional musicians joining them in the studio and on tour. Fully realized and bursting with charisma, The People's Key is an assured and accomplished album, artfully arranged and filled with the engaging and mesmeric songwriting for which Oberst is renowned. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - Tao Of The Dead (Superball) .................................................. And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead return with their seventh full-length release, a surprisingly forceful yet sophisticated album that evokes a refreshing nostalgia (paying a faithful homage to Pink Floyd, Rush, Steppenwolf and even Neu!). Adele - 21 (Columbia) .................................................. 21 is the eagerly awaited sophomore album from British singer-songwriter Adele, and the follow- up to her critically acclaimed, award winning debut album 19. Renowned for her incredibly unique vocal ability and songwriting, Adele's debut received two Grammy Awards in 2009 (Best New Artist and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance) as well as a BRIT Award in 2008 (Critics Choice). This new collection of songs on 21 showcases the growth of this incredible artist, who at the very young age of twenty two, exhibits the poise of a seasoned veteran. Adele's music takes some new direction while staying true to her signature style. "Rolling in the Deep" is the pounding, energetic first single. Middle Brother - s/t (Partisan) .................................................. The lead singers of Deer Tick, Dawes, and Delta Spirit come together to form Middle Brother. McCauley, Goldsmith, Vasquez - 3 songwriters with an amazing sense of purpose, balancing themes of their own playful self-indulgence with humbler notes of heartbreak and hope. Alt-country folk mixed with soulful rock n roll. Middle Brother is the master collaborative event finally risen out of the roots of their genre. Bayside - Killing Time (Wind-Up) .................................................. "Take one part Weezer tunefulness and one part Nirvana aggression, add a dash of Green Day's ambition, then shake, serve, rock out." - Maxim. The band's 5th studio recording, three of which debuted on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Their touring success has led to a devoted, almost cult-like, fan base which is where their "Bayside is a Cult" slogan stems from. The 10-track album was produced by the legendary Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World, Pixies). -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
