The Record Store Day website has made a handy-dandy fancy-schmancy list of all the goodies coming out for RSD 2011. So instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, we will just guide you to their list here: http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases - there is also a PDF version here: http://download.recordstoreday.com/free/RSD_2011_RELEASES.pdf - And remember: LIMITED EDITION, BABY. A lot of these titles have limited runs. You may not get your hands on all the pieces you want. Landlocked may not get all the pieces we ordered. That's the nature of limited releases. But that's what makes them so exciting! Of course we will be doing lots of other things on that day besides just selling these limited releases- Live performances (Sleeping Bag, Jason Wilber), DJs (Jorma from Marmoset, Jared Comedy Attic), free stuff, refreshments! More soon! We have teamed up with local label Secretly Canadian to release a live record from our instore performance with Damien Jurado from last year. This awesome, intimate performance will come out on vinyl LP only for Record Store Day 2011, on Saturday April 16th. Quantities will be limited and as an extra bonus, we are getting Damien to autograph a portion of the copies sold at Landlocked Music. Recorded by Dave Vettraino and Russian Recording. Russian Recording is releasing the latest in their LP compilations for Record Store Day. With lovingly handmade artwork from Ultralinear Arts and In Case of Emergency Press. Featuring exclusive studio cuts from Art Hospital (Zach Rogue from Rogue Wave), Sleeping Bag, The Hollows, FAWN (members of Von Bondies, Thunderbirds Are Now, and Child Bite), Elephant Micah, Medusa, Freddie T and the People (fronted by Fred Erskine of June of 44 / Hoover), Husband & Wife, Fat Shadow and Parlor. These should go fast so be sure to add it to your RSD must-buy list! NEW ARRIVALS for April 5th .................................................. Bill Callahan - Apocalypse (Drag City) .................................................. Callahan is back! Having seemingly given up on his Smog persona, this is essentially an ensemble recorded live in the studio - Callahan's Apocalypse is the corpus delecti. If tape is like meat, this record is the whole hog. Callahan, riding on the back of his band, corrals them all & guides them single-handedly through the valley with love & ferocity. This record makes us wonder what has really happened in the last 100 years, and what will happen in the next 10. The soul of your country called and left you a message. 7 messages. Cold Cave - Cherish the Light Years (Matador) .................................................. Recorded with Chris Coady, Cold Cave's 2nd album is a tour-de-force of pounding synths and soaring romantic melody. It manages to unite Power, Corruption and Lies-era New Order, late 70s Scott Walker, and the dark stadium pop of mid-period Depeche Mode, with the sensibilities of artists like LCD Soundsystem and The National. Drawing from all these influences, bandleader Wesley Eisold crafted a tightly wrought, ambitious love letter to NYC. With his deep vocals fully to the fore on every track, Cherish The Light Years is a remarkable progression. Alela Diane - & Wild Divine - (Rough Trade) .................................................. Let it be known; this is not your typical Alela Diane record. There is no banjo plucked and drenched in ghostly reverb, no violin wielded like fine china at your chest cavity, no chiffon blowing curiously in the wind and most importantly, nothing vaguely freaky going on that goes beyond the inevitable waxing and waning of the moon. Rather, there comes a time when artistic pursuits warrant a new approach- one that reflects personal growth and its continued path- and therein lies the root base of the expanded sounds of Alela Diane and Wild Divine. Easy Star All-Stars - First Light (Easy Star) .................................................. First Light is the first full-length album of original songs from Easy Star All-Stars, the groundbreaking reggae act best known for its tributes to classic rock albums: Dub Side of the Moon (2003), Radiodread (2006), Easy Star's Lonley Hearts Dub Band (2009) and Dubber Side of the Moon (2010). The Easy Star All-Stars have built a huge following around the world, having sold over 350,000 records and played shows in over 30 countries on 6 continents. Ha Ha Tonka - Death of a Decade (Bloodshot) .................................................. Death of a Decade is the culmination of 10 years of hard work for this Ozark quartet. They wowed us with their 2007 debut Buckle in the Bible Belt, matured on 2009's Novel Sounds of the Nouveau South, and without a doubt, take their stand as one of the best young bands in the US on this, their third LP. As with Ha Ha Tonka's previous releases, the boys manage to marry authentic Southern songs with modern edges on Death of a Decade, all without ever coming across as gimmicky. Perhaps you saw them on the recent Ozarks episode of No Reservations with Anthony Bourdain? The Kills - Blood Pressures (Domino) .................................................. The Kills, UK/US duo of Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart, release Blood Pressures, the highly anticipated follow-up to their critically acclaimed third album, Midnight Boom. This album keeps their basic sound intact searing guitars, driving rhythms and sexually charged lyrical savvy. The 11 tracks on find The Kills embracing a fuller sound; there is heavier instrumentation and layered, huge-sounding harmonies with Jamie and Alison uniting in their trademark sing song vocal style over tom heavy primitive beats. Maritime - Human Hearts (Dangerbird) .................................................. Having formed from the ashes of The Promise Ring in 2002, Maritime enjoys the perks of being both a great band on their own and one that carries with them a substantial history that tends to prompt a heightened sense of anticipation from fans. 10 song Dangerbird debut. The Raveonettes - Raven in the Grave (Vice) .................................................. The Raveonettes' music is characterized by close two-part vocal harmonies inspired by The Everly Brothers coupled with hard-edged electric guitar overlaid with liberal doses of noise, very similar to The Jesus and Mary Chain. Their songs juxtapose the structural and chordal simplicity of 50s and 60s rock with intense electric instrumentation, driving beats, and often dark lyrical content (e.g., crime, drugs, murder, suicide, love, lust, and betrayal), similar to another of the band's influences, The Velvet Underground. Robbie Robertson - How To Become Clairvoyant (429) .................................................. Named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time, Robbie Robertson (The Band) sets to release, How To Become Clairvoyant, his fifth solo album and his first record in more than 10 years. Guitar virtuosos Eric Clapton (who co-wrote 3 tracks with Robertson), Tom Morello and Robert Randolph guest on the album, which Robertson co-produced with Marius de Vries. How To Become Clairvoyant also features Steve Winwood and Trent Reznor as well as vocalists Angela McCluskey, Rocco Deluca, Dana Glover and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes. Bassist Pino Palladino and drummer Ian Thomas lay down the groove throughout. Timber Timbre - Creep on Creepin (Arts & Crafts) .................................................. Victorian science. Paranormal spirituality. Romance. Control issues. Lost identity. Paranoia. Nomadic living. Phil Spector. Jack Nitzsche. Bernard Herman. Timeless, cinematic songs. The follow-up to 2009's s/t release, vocalist Taylor Kirk is joined by Mika Posen (violin) and Simon Trottier (lap steel, auto harp), on heartrending compositions that engage, transport and challenge. The album is textured and commanding, stirring proof of the unwavering powers of obsession and possession. "Our goal remains to make interesting songs that sound as though they could come from any time in the era of western music," Kirk explains. "The idea is to make music we love and therefore embrace the risk of sounding like all the music we've ever loved, all at once." We Are Enfant Terrible - Explicit Pictures (Last Gang) .................................................. After releasing 2 well-received EPs, French trio We Are Enfant Terrible are releasing their debut full length album. From the pumping keyboard beat of the album opener "Make You Laugh", it's clear that you won't hear much guitar or drums on this electro pop record. Instead, it's computerized blips and bloops that adorn songs. What sets them apart from electronic masses is the rough edges they manage to attain in their songs. VA - WFHB's Local Live: Remote Broadcasts, Volume 1 .................................................. A new compilation of 20 live tracks taken from WFHB's Local Live program, released to help promote and fund Firehouse Radio. The tracks span a time period from early summer of 2009 through winter of 2010, mostly recorded at Russian Recording with significant contributions from Farm Fresh Studios and Midwest Audio Recording. Featuring tracks from Magnolia Electric Co, Good Luck, Tammar, Early Day Miners, Austin & Bob Lucas, Krista Detor, Jennie DeVoe, Andy Hollinden, Whippoorwill, White Lightning Boys, Mikaela Holland, Bowery Boy Blue, Calumet Reel, Thousand Arrows, Jenn Cristy, Santos and the Saints, Dr Djo Bi, 25th Cent Jazz Ensemble, Tim Grimm and the Jazz Fables Quintet. Timber Timbre - Creep On Creepin' On (Arts & Crafts) .................................................. Creep On Creepin' On was recorded inside a converted church studio with Grammy nominee Mark Lawson, and the result is Timber Timbre's most brilliant and robust record to date. It's a collection of 10 tracks that expands to incorporate rich and varied melodies, affecting lyricism and evocative vintage instrumentation. The result is heartrending compositions that engage, transport and challenge. Eulogies - Tear the Fences Down (Dangerbird) .................................................. Following up 2009's much-loved, Here Anonymous, that most notably contained the tune, "Two Can Play," featuring Nikki Monninger of the Silversun Pickups, Eulogies third full-length album is penned by band guitarist/vocalist Peter Walker and dedicated to Pablo Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird label head, Jeff Castelaz who passed away in 2009 from a rare form of cancer. J Mascis - Several Shades of Why (Sub Pop) .................................................. In the quarter century since he founded Dinosaur Jr., J Mascis has created some of the era's signature songs, albums and styles. Several Shades of Why, is J's first solo studio record. Nearly all acoustic, Several Shades of Why was created with the help of a few friends including Kurt Vile, Kevin Drew, Ben Bridwell, and Pall Jenkins. But every track, every note even, bears that distinct Mascis watermark, both in the shape of the tunes and the glorious rasp of the vocals.
