Its nearly June, but it shore do feel like July. Of course, its also Tuesday and it shore do feel like a Monday. So it goes. We're giving a special shout out to a couple shows this week: First, Arrington de Dionyso (frontman of Old Time Relijun), is playing a show at Magnetic South with his newest incarnation - Malaikat Dan Singa, on Wednesday evening. Described as a trance-punk outfit featuring bass clarinet, guitars, multiple drummers and his trademark wild vocals (multi-spectral harmonic throatsinging combined with grunts, yelps, and barks) - this time, all sung in Indonesian. For directions to Magnetic South email tyler@landlockedmusic.com or stop in and ask one of us or find the event on Facebook! Also featuring local Normanoak performing. Secondly, Thursday at the Bishop. Natural Child is from Nashville, TN but features former Bloomington rocker Seth from the Horribly Wrong. RIYL Rolling Stones rock, their album on Infinity Cat Recordings (Jeff the Brotherhood, etc) came out on April 20th. This rad show also features Charlie and the Skunks, Moscow Moscow Moscow and Heinous Orca (Nashville). NEW ARRIVALS for May 31st .................................................. Black Swans - Don't Blame the Stars (Misra) .................................................. "Don't Blame the Stars is one of the best records you'll hear all year. It is full of sad songs about happy things, and happy sounding songs about very, very strange things. They are irreverent, eidetic tales of superstition, addiction, being lost, getting found, and just being alone. In short, lyrical, hilarious meditations on being alive and living - for which, as frontman Jerry DeCicca will tell you, 'there is no known cure.'" - James Jackson Toth / Wooden Wand Kate Bush - Director's Cut (Fish People) .................................................. With her near-operatic soprano voice, ruminative and literate lyrics, and a very eccentric delivery, Kate Bush was years ahead of her time, pre-dating not only all manner of eccentric alt-rock to follow, but the so-called Women in Rock revolution of the early 90s. Tori Amos, Bjork, Sarah McLachlan and Joanna Newsom all owe a huge debt to this pioneering British singer-songwriter. On Directors Cut, Kate revisits a selection of tracks from her albums The Sensual World and The Red Shoes, a process that presents a fascinating portrait of an artist in a constant state of evolution. She has re-recorded some elements whilst keeping the best musical performances of each song. All the lead vocals and drums are new performances. Three songs have been completely re-recorded. Cola Freaks - s/t LP (Douchemaster) .................................................. Denmark's Cola Freaks sound like a scheduled, perfectly executed panic attack, employing herky-jerky song structures and frequent direction changes while commanding total attention. The six-piece has released a series of impressive singles for which they've garnered comparisons to legendary European KBD-era bands of yore and the likes of Jay Reatard—indeed, Mr. Reatard recruited Cola Freaks members for his backing band in his final live lineup. Featuring 11 tracks of quick, clean and nervous new wave / punk rock, the album is as scrupulous as it is frenzied and eerie. Death Cab for Cutie - Codes & Keys (Barsuk) .................................................. The album breaks away, though not completely, from the guitar-driven style of the band known so well to fans, making use of piano and electronically centered songs that will undoubtedly meet their expectations. Flogging Molly - Speed of Darkness (Borstal) .................................................. Their 5th, and arguably most important album. In the words of singer Dave King, "It wasn't the album we set out to write. It became the album we had to write". Speed Of Darkness was written in Detroit, MI and takes a hardnosed look at the economic collapse in the US: the causes and the direct effect it has had on everyday people. The Motor City serves as the album's muse and one of the biggest examples of what has gone wrong. While attacking much of the greed and ignorance responsible for where we are, the album also delivers a message of hope, humanity and the resilience of mankind. My Morning Jacket - Circuital (ATO) .................................................. With almost 2 million albums sold worldwide and a previous Billboard #9 debut, MMJ return with their sixth studio album. Circuital was recorded in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN, and was co-produced by frontman Jim James and Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists). The result is yet another reinvention of their sound that both forges new ground and maintains the distinct spirit of MMJ's previous work. The Reatards - Teenage Hate [reissue] (Goner) .................................................. Deluxe edition of the debut album from Jay Reatard and Co. including a bonus album of early tracks recorded on four-track and only ever released on cassettes. Teenage Hate/Fuck Elvis Here's the Reatards offers a glimpse into the Punk energy and rapidly developing raw talent of a teenage Reatard. Features covers of Fear, The Dead Boys, Lil' Bunnies, Buddy Holly, Johnny Vomit & The Dry Heaves... and The Beatles! Seapony - Go With Me (Hardly Art) .................................................. Seapony create catchy, pop gems. Fuzz-drenched guitars, simple chord progressions, drum machine rattle and boom, topped with concise melodic hooks and breathy vocals. Seapony are a 3-piece from Seattle that signed to Hardly Art shortly before their first single was even released in the UK (on Double Denim). That single received high praise on Pitchfork and the limited pressing sold out in a heart beat. Seapony have played shows in Chicago with the Concretes and in Seattle and California with Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Alex Turner - Submarine (Domino) .................................................. Original soundtrack to the critically acclaimed debut film from Richard Ayoade, based on the novel by Joe Dunthorne. Features original songs by Arctic Monkeys mainman Alex Turner. Eddie Vedder - Ukulele Songs (Monkeywrench) .................................................. Ukulele Songs is a collection of original songs and covers performed by Vedder on ukulele. Featuring a number of songs that Vedder penned and first played live but never released nearly a decade ago, "Ukulele Songs" also includes a uke version of Pearl Jam's 2002 track "Can't Keep" and guest vocalists on two tracks: Glen Hansard on "Sleepless Nights" and Cat Power on "Tonight You Belong To Me." Woods - Sun and Shade (Woodsist) .................................................. "Woods is a two-headed dog asleep on the porch and a butterfly on the windowsill... a Janus, a Gemini and a screen door. The sun won't fade and the earworms will not leave, but the jams go on too long for the girl in the back who wonders if her friends are at another bar. Still, the ballads always make her cry. Woods is up there relaying the Woods-feel: Folk-rock, fuzz, tambourines, tapes and raw lunch pulled straight from the yard. Pop songs and other things: Sun and Shade." - Glenn Donaldson The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. Black Pus (Brian Chippendale) - Primordial LP (Load) Dog Faced Hermans - Those Deep Buds LP (Alternative Tentacles) Dream Syndicate - Days of Wine and Roses LP (4 Men With Beards) Jesus & Mary Chain - Automatic LP (Plain) Jesus & Mary Chain - Honey's Dead LP (Plain) Outdoorsmen - Tell Your Folks I'm A Goner 7" (Psychic Handshake) Primal Scream - Vanishing Point LP (Plain) Also Released This Week ..................................................
