Thanks to any and all who came to our Bon Iver listening/release party last night. Speaking of partays... we are having another release party next week. Come out and buy the new Gillian Welch album on Tuesday June 28th! Bloomington loves Gill and Gill loves Bloomington, so we are eager and excited to host a listening party for the album starting at 6pm til close. We will be giving away really nice John Baizley posters with purchase of the CD as well as offer deep discounts on her entire back catalog and maybe a surprise or two as well! Feel free to email us or stop in and sign up for a pre-order so you don't miss out! Look good this summer with our t-shirt blow out! We misprinted our last batch of shirts (whoops) but now you get the savings. Misprinted shirts $10 - the only thing that is wrong with them is that they do not say "Bloomington, IN" and the color is slightly different. Classic shirts are still $15. NEW ARRIVALS for June 21st .................................................. Bobby - s/t (Partisan) .................................................. Drawing inspiration equally from Gamelan orchestras of Indonesia, polyrhythmic hand drumming of Yoruba, as well as artists such as Kate Bush, Bjork, Vashti Bunyan and The Books. This debut is a lush, full spectrum exploration of frequency and timbrel layering. Using a multiplicity of acoustic, electric, and lap steel guitars, keyboards, shakers, hand drums, ambient noises, whistles, and gongs- no frequency oscillation was left behind, no stone left unturned. Bon Iver - s/t (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. Bon Iver's Bon Iver is Justin Vernon returning to former haunts with a new spirit. The reprises are there - solitude, quietude, hope and desperation compressed - but always a rhythm arises, a pulse vivified by gratitude and grace notes. The winter, the legend, has faded to just that, and this is the new momentary present. The icicles have dropped, rising up again as grass. Free poster while they last! Bonus 12" EP also available with songs not on the full length album. Gomez - Whatever's On Your Mind (ATO) .................................................. Gomez returns with their most adventurous, stunning, and ambitious work to date. Deep in the woods of Virginia, Gomez have conspired to make the most compelling, direct album of their 15 year career. The members reside across two continents (in LA, NY and UK) and after several months of sharing ideas through every facet of technology available to them, they came together with their longtime friend, Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet), to create their new album. Free Bonus EP! Jeff the Brotherhood - We Are the Champions (Infinity Cat) .................................................. Nashville rockers Jeff The Brotherhood give their 2nd album, We Are The Champions, a proper release as they continue their non-stop touring playing with everyone from the Greenhornes and Fucked Up to metal legends Pentagram. "The music they play is easy to love, vintage three-string party rock somewhere on the continuum between the Ramones and Black Sabbath." - The Village Voice Paleo - Fruit of the Spirit (Partisan) .................................................. Holing up in Davenport, Iowa, the twenty-something got taught the ropes analogue recording from the original Daytrotter engineer, Patrick Stolley. Stolley's place is a minefield of old analogue gear, a phalanx of synths and amps insulate the walls, piles of grease- thirsty old tape machines, bells, whistles, six-strings, four-strings, twelve-strings, no strings. With this wonderland at his dispoal, the young magi decided to try something which never occurred to him before: collaboration. Friends strode in with next to no rehearsal and no lead sheets, they huddled for a three-day creative blitzkrieg. Ty Segall - Goodbye Bread (Drag City) .................................................. Ty Segall can kick out jams with the best of them, but there's more to the 23-year-old garage rock wunderkind than fuzz riffs and cro-magnon bashing. He has a sensitive side, too. On "Goodbye Bread", the title track from his Drag City debut, Segall reconnects with his roots as a Laguna Beach surfer dude, dialing down the distortion in favor of chill and chiming guitar chords. When the chorus hits, the bass drops in, the drums kick up, and Segall scoots up the register to an eerie falsetto. It's his first foray into such dreamy territory, but it's also one of his catchiest, most affecting songs. Skysaw - Great Civilizations (Dangerbird) .................................................. Jimmy Chamberlin is known to fans around the world as the man behind the drums with Smashing Pumpkins. Reina and Pirog were writing cohorts in the Fairfax, VA group, The Jackfields, whose Pink Floyd meets Beach Boys psychedelia was widely lauded. These 3 musicians of Skysaw have now created brilliant, tuneful and whip-smart pop music that can loosely be described with words like "progressive" and "symphonic," while at the same time deserving their own category. Unknown Mortal Orchestra - s/t (Fat Possum) .................................................. UMO was initially conceived by New Zealand native, Ruban, to release some tracks online to promote his vinyl in 2010. He pieced a band together, with a skilled producer, Jake, on bass and a brilliant teenage drummer named Julian to fill out the band. They are based in Portland. They bring break-beats together with 70s pop harmonies and minimal Krautrock rhythm section. Appearing w/ Toro Y Moi this fall at The Bishop! Viva Voce - The Future Will Destroy You (Vanguard) .................................................. All songs on this new recording were written, produced and mixed by the Portland, OR duo in their home studio. The Future Will Destroy You is the most expansive, vibrant collection yet and showcases Anita Robinson's post-psychedelic guitar heroics. Each album has a review and enables you to listen to the entire album before you buy it. Give 'er a spin! Battles - Gloss Drop (Warp) .................................................. Gloss Drop is an entrancing album that defies both categorization and easy analysis. Just as Mirrored was a massive leap on from the early EPs that first got them noticed, this is truly another seismic shift, propelling them into uncharted territory. It is a sheer sense of fun, unpredictability and inventiveness that sets Battles apart from every other contemporary group. Stanier sums this up succinctly: "I don't think challenging, new music has to be super serious all the time. That's really boring to me and pushing boundaries should not be boring." Death Cab For Cutie - Codes and Keys (Barsuk) .................................................. Death Cab For Cutie will release their hugely anticipated new album, Codes and Keys, on May 31st. The multiple Grammy Award-nominated band will herald the album's release with a series of eagerly awaited live shows in and around their native Pacific Northwest. The album breaks away, though not completely, from the guitar-driven style of the band known so well to fans, making use of piano and electronically centered songs that will undoubtedly meet their expectations. The Cars - Move Like This (Hear) .................................................. After a string of platinum albums and Top 40 singles made them one of the most popular American rock bands of the late 70s thru mid-80s, The Cars are back in action with their very first studio album in 24 years! Featuring original band members Ric Ocasek, David Robinson, Elliot Easton & Greg Hawkes, Move Like This recalls the alt-rock minimalistic sound The Cars are so well known for, yet at the same time, maintains significant relevance to the music of today. Flogging Molly - Speed Of Darkness (Borstal) .................................................. Their 5th, and arguably most important album. In the words of singer Dave King, "It wasn't the album we set out to write. It became the album we had to write". Speed Of Darkness was written in Detroit, MI and takes a hardnosed look at the economic collapse in the US: the causes and the direct effect it has had on everyday people. The Motor City serves as the album's muse and one of the biggest examples of what has gone wrong. While attacking much of the greed and ignorance responsible for where we are, the album also delivers a message of hope, humanity and the resilience of mankind. Tyler The Creator - Goblin (XL) .................................................. The last thing you'd say about the prolific young rap collective Odd Future is that they're boring...you know what else? They're really good. Especially their ringleader called Tyler The Creator. And you know what else? It's awesome to see them play live. - NPR. Over the past few months Tyler and Odd Future have been speeding from the margins of the Internet toward the center of forward-thinking music circles thanks to a barrage of self-released albums, mayhem-inducing live performances and an ability - at this point, it's verging on desire - to instantly polarize listeners. - NY Times -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
