Definitely moving slow after a long holiday weekend... we hope you got a heaping helping of freedom and are now ready to get your summer on! There are a ton of great shows blasting through town in the next couple weeks so be sure to get your tickets soon, as well as all your party tunes. Look good this summer with our t-shirt blow out! We misprinted our last batch of shirts (whoops) but now you get the savings. Misprinted shirts $10 - the only thing that is wrong with them is that they do not say "Bloomington, IN" and the color is slightly different. Classic normal shirts are still $15. NEW ARRIVALS for July 5th .................................................. The Deer Tracks - Archer Trilogy (Control Group) .................................................. "The Deer Tracks combine folk-ishly delicate melodies with glitch techno techniques: twinkling keyboard lines that sound as though they re being played on toy instruments (as per that other micro-genre, toytronica) are frequently interrupted by static and hiss, crackles and jumps." - The Guardian Brian Eno - Drums Between Bells (Warp) .................................................. Eno first came across the work of Rick Holland in the late 90s during the Map-Making project; a series of collaborative works between students of the Royal College, the Guildhall School of Music, the Royal Academy of Music, the Royal College of Music, the National Youth Orchestra and the English National Ballet, among others. In 2003, Brian and Rick made their first music together. The resulting work does not appear on this album. In the time since that initial session they have met infrequently to work on new compositions. Flaming Lips / Prefuse 73 - 12" (Lovely Sorts of Death) .................................................. Limited to 2000 copies. Self released by the band and only sold at select record stores nationwide. Each copy was pressed on randomly colored vinyl so that no two look alike. Side one is 33RPM, side two is 45RPM. Tracks: Supermoon Made Me Want To Pee, Heavy Star Movin', Be Like That That That, Guillermo's Bolero. Gardens & Villa - s/t (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. Gardens & Villa channel all the taut pop precisions of 90s Britpop of bands like Blur (borrowed from the 60s anyhow), and send it through an 80s synth filter both undeniably coastal and modern. It's Spoon's Kill The Moonlight lost in a daydream, but with that same hungry energy. Gardens & Villa may simultaneously pull from Gary Numan, The Kinks and odder prog within one composition. And like a fine sweet tea, it's made just that right kind of sugary though even the most upbeat tunes have an undercurrent of the bittersweet and the lost at heart. Landlord - Beneath the Wheel (Recess) .................................................. Bloomington's own Landlord created an AMAZING window display for us to help celebrate their brand new LP. Chris and Matte from The Door-Keys join Will from Defiance, Ohio to make up the garage-punk answer to Dinosaur Jr. With haunting melody and beautiful harmony, this three-piece play 1990's alternative rock with vibes of Meat Puppets or Teenage Fanclub. While Bloomington residents might catch The Coug chowing down at Chipotle, Landlord rings in a true era of midwest small-town romance with flawless songwriting, wide dynamic range, perfect pop-sense, and punk energy. Music lovers with a vast appreciation for all types of rock and roll will find much to rally behind here as the band channels the laid-back groove of Neil Young, the minor/major key shifting of The Zombies, J Mascis-esque guitar shredding, and builds on the blissful pop-punk cornerstone laid by their own The Door-Keys. Memory Tapes - Player Piano (Carpark) .................................................. Player Piano is the second full length from Davye Hawk's Memory Tapes. It was, like its predecessor, the highly acclaimed Seek Magic, recorded at Dayve's home studio in rural New Jersey, where he juggles looking after his young daughter and being a musician. While Seek Magic was quite an electronic sounding record with lots of dance music tropes, Player Piano is all about the melody. Mojo Magazine - Bob Marley cover .................................................. In his final years, exiled from Jamaica through countless tours, Bob Marley set about crafting a final political trilogy. David Hutcheon speaks to family and friends about the passion and politics that fueled those final years. Also, we return to the Peckham school where Bob and Johnny Nash made a guest appearance in 1972, while Johnny Marr, Max Romeo, Lee Perry, Sly Dunbar and others reappraise the singers recorded output. Also featuring articles on Paul Simon, New Order, Afrocubism, The Troggs, Rickie Lee Jones... plus a free CD sampler, tons of reviews and more! Radiohead - Remixes V.1 12" (Ticker Tape) .................................................. Radiohead kick off a series of limited edition 12" releases featuring remixes from their latest album, this year's The King of Limbs. The first 12" contains Caribou's remix of "Little by Little" backed by Jacques Greene's take on "Lotus Flower". Limited, get em while you can! WU LYF - Go Tell Fire to the Mountain (LYF) .................................................. WU LYF (an acronym of World Unite Lucifer Youth Foundation) have recorded one of the year's most anticipated debuts. The band - a quartet from Manchester UK aged between 20 and 22 - spent much of 2010 purposely avoiding the glare of the UK music industry. Recorded over 21 days and nights in a disused, Venetian-style church in north Manchester. The venue was chosen for the sound and ambience it would provide, rather than for any religious reason, but the explosive mix of organs, echoed percussion, chiming guitar and one of the most distinctive vocalists to emerge in years is almost spiritual in feel. The various elements combine into a cathartic experience: as The Guardian states, "the resulting songs are dark, beautiful and ridiculously euphoric." Gloss Drop is an entrancing album that defies both categorization and easy analysis. Just as Mirrored was a massive leap on from the early EPs that first got them noticed, this is truly another seismic shift, propelling them into uncharted territory. It is a sheer sense of fun, unpredictability and inventiveness that sets Battles apart from every other contemporary group. Stanier sums this up succinctly: "I don't think challenging, new music has to be super serious all the time. That's really boring to me and pushing boundaries should not be boring." Bon Iver - Bon Iver (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. Bon Iver is Justin Vernon returning to former haunts with a new spirit. The reprises are there - solitude, quietude, hope and desperation compressed - but always a rhythm arises, a pulse vivified by gratitude and grace notes. The winter, the legend, has faded to just that, and this is the new momentary present. The icicles have dropped, rising up again as grass. Paul McCartney - McCartney & McCartney II (Hear) .................................................. The Paul McCartney Archive Collection presents the next two titles in the series - McCartney and McCartney II. Released in multiple configurations - 2CD Special Edition, Deluxe Book Edition, & 2LP Vinyl Edition - these projects have been personally supervised by Paul and newly remastered at Abbey Road Studios. Heralded as one of the most beloved solo debuts of all time, McCartney yielded the timeless tracks "Every Night" and "Junk" along with the immortal classic "Maybe I'm Amazed." McCartney II was his return to solo work after nine years of massive touring and recording with Wings and features enduring classics such as "Coming Up," "Waterfalls," & "Temporary Secretary." VA - Rave On Buddy Holly (Fantasy) .................................................. In his short-lived but extraordinary life, Buddy Holly left behind a body of work so enthralling, his enduring influence is nearly impossible to overstate. The melodic joy and fierce independent streak at the core of his artistry is profoundly felt on this collection. Features My Morning Jacket, Black Keys, Modest Mouse, Florence + the Machine, CeeLo Green, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Graham Nash, Detroit Cobras, Patti Smith, Nick Lowe, She & Him, Justin Townes Earle, Julian Casablancas, Karen Elson, Fiona Apple w/ Jon Brion, John Doe and more! Gomez - Whatever's On Your Mind (ATO) .................................................. Gomez returns with their most adventurous, stunning, and ambitious work to date. Deep in the woods of Virginia, Gomez have conspired to make the most compelling, direct album of their 15-year career. The members reside across two continents (in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Brighton, England) and after several months of sharing ideas through every facet of technology available to them, they came together with their longtime friend, Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet), to create their first self-produced offering since 2001's In Our Gun. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
