Semi-local touring juggernaut Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band has a fun new album that is nothing but Charlie Patton covers. And we have signed posters for anyone who has purchased it! CD or LP. The vinyl version comes with a bonus 78RPM record! Rad. Next month we are going to be giving away a free entry +1 to the soon to be sold out Gillian Welch and Dave Rawlings show at the Bluebird on September 1st. Aficionado - s/t (No Sleep) .................................................. While continuing to evolve artistically and push the envelope of their sound, Aficionado's self-titled full length is a cohesive listen from beginning to end, showing that the album format is still alive and well. With ten songs produced and recorded with AJ Mogis (Bright Eyes, M. Ward, Cursive), the songs are sharp and more compact with less of an emphasis on wowing people with over the top antics and more of a focus on the songs themselves. Drawing from a range of influences such as Cursive, Hold Steady, Sunny Day Real Estate and At the Drive In, Aficionado incorporates the sweet honey coated coo of Laura Carrozza which tinges the melodies and a harmonious male/female vocal styling alongside singer Nick Warchol. Belle & Sebastian - Come on Sister 12" (Matador) .................................................. Featuring 4 tracks from and related to the sessions. The lead track is a reworking of Come on Sister by Tony Doogan. In addition, there are 2 remixes of I Didn't See It Coming: one by Sarah's old school friend, Richard X (which he describes as what B&S would sound like if Limahl was their biggest influence), and the other by Matador label mate, Cold Cave. The remaining track is Blue Eyes of a Millionaire, which was one of the bonus tracks from the LA recording sessions that begat the album, and is available on vinyl for the first time. Davila 666 - Live at Third Man LP (Third Man) .................................................. The Third Man Live series of shows and LPs continues with our favorite Puerto Rican rock and rollers Davila 666. They were able to talk the boys into playing their humble venue earlier in the evening before they rocked the Springwater Supper Club stadium show later that night, so this will be an earlier "matinee" style jam. And because nobody brings the party quite as hard as Davila does, that means it was still bonkers. A fantastic live party band captured as they should be! Locksley - s/t (Feature) .................................................. Locksley is a band in the truest sense, fronted by 3 singin, guitar-slingin songwriters kicking out unabashed pop gems that beat with a rock n roll heart. Produced by longtime collaborator Guy Benny, Locksley captures the NYC-based combo's knack for timeless songcraft, melding 3-part harmonies, glorious melodies, and unshakable hooks. Marked by their almost encyclopedic passion for music with a particular affinity for British Invasion beat groups, NYC punk, classic Stax/Volt soul, and garage-fuelled 21st Century indie rock their debut's manic pop thrills represent the definitive account of their electrifying first chapter. Deftly threading the needle between pure pop perfection and punk's raw power, with crunchy riffs, call-and-response choruses, and snug harmonies. Release the Sunbird - Come Back To Us (Brushfire) .................................................. When Rogue Wave's Zach Rogue boarded a plane for Bloomington last summer, he wasn't even sure he should be going. Following years on the road, Zach was itching to do something different. On a whim, he booked time at Mike Bridavsky's local studio Russian Recording. Bringing a couple acoustic guitars, as well as the fragments of a few not-anywhere-near-finished songs, Rogue knew he was moving forward without any real sense of what he was moving forward towards. The sense of possibility that accompanied Rogue into the recording process is evident on Come Back to Us, the recording of which ultimately became a community effort amongst the many musicians in Bloomington, IN. Drummer Pete Shreiner, bassist/vocalist Kenny Childers and vocalist Kate Long helped to bring out new sides of Rogue as a songwriter and vocalist, infusing his voice with a familiar intimacy. Dex Romweber Duo - Is That You in the Blue? (Bloodshot) .................................................. Dex is nothing less than an icon of the American music underground. Pioneering the template for the stripped to-the-essentials guitar/drums duo format in the world famous psycho-surf-rockabilly-garage-punk combo Flat Duo Jets, Dex forges ahead with this 2011 album. With sister Sara on drums, the DRD is a potent combo that'll get your leg twitching & your heart racing -and sometimes breaking- with the feral excitement of music. In Dex, you have someone who burrows into the guts of American roots music with a uniquely alchemical mania; he's clearly bored with, or oblivious to, genre constraints. Each album has a review and enables you to listen to the entire album before you buy it. Give 'er a spin! Battles - Gloss Drop (Warp) .................................................. Gloss Drop is an entrancing album that defies both categorization and easy analysis. Just as Mirrored was a massive leap on from the early EPs that first got them noticed, this is truly another seismic shift, propelling them into uncharted territory. It is a sheer sense of fun, unpredictability and inventiveness that sets Battles apart from every other contemporary group. Stanier sums this up succinctly: "I don't think challenging, new music has to be super serious all the time. That's really boring to me and pushing boundaries should not be boring." Bon Iver - Bon Iver (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. Bon Iver is Justin Vernon returning to former haunts with a new spirit. The reprises are there - solitude, quietude, hope and desperation compressed - but always a rhythm arises, a pulse vivified by gratitude and grace notes. The winter, the legend, has faded to just that, and this is the new momentary present. The icicles have dropped, rising up again as grass. Paul McCartney - McCartney & McCartney II (Hear) .................................................. The Paul McCartney Archive Collection presents the next two titles in the series - McCartney and McCartney II. Released in multiple configurations - 2CD Special Edition, Deluxe Book Edition, & 2LP Vinyl Edition - these projects have been personally supervised by Paul and newly remastered at Abbey Road Studios. Heralded as one of the most beloved solo debuts of all time, McCartney yielded the timeless tracks "Every Night" and "Junk" along with the immortal classic "Maybe I'm Amazed." McCartney II was his return to solo work after nine years of massive touring and recording with Wings and features enduring classics such as "Coming Up," "Waterfalls," & "Temporary Secretary." VA - Rave On Buddy Holly (Fantasy) .................................................. In his short-lived but extraordinary life, Buddy Holly left behind a body of work so enthralling, his enduring influence is nearly impossible to overstate. The melodic joy and fierce independent streak at the core of his artistry is profoundly felt on this collection. Features My Morning Jacket, Black Keys, Modest Mouse, Florence + the Machine, CeeLo Green, Paul McCartney, Lou Reed, Graham Nash, Detroit Cobras, Patti Smith, Nick Lowe, She & Him, Justin Townes Earle, Julian Casablancas, Karen Elson, Fiona Apple w/ Jon Brion, John Doe and more! Gomez - Whatever's On Your Mind (ATO) .................................................. Gomez returns with their most adventurous, stunning, and ambitious work to date. Deep in the woods of Virginia, Gomez have conspired to make the most compelling, direct album of their 15-year career. The members reside across two continents (in Los Angeles, Brooklyn and Brighton, England) and after several months of sharing ideas through every facet of technology available to them, they came together with their longtime friend, Sam Farrar (Phantom Planet), to create their first self-produced offering since 2001's In Our Gun. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
