Perhaps you caught Tig Notaro at The Comedy Attic (nee Funny Bone) a while ago or at her recorded performance at Russian Recording. Now she is headed back to town again to help celebrate the release of her debut comedy album on Secretly Canadian! For a limited time, buy the new Tig Notaro CD or LP, "Good One", and get 1 FREE TICKET to any performance at The Comedy Attic, August 11-13th. NEW ARRIVALS for August 2nd .................................................. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs [deluxe] (Merge) .................................................. Arcade Fire's 2011 Grammy Award winning Album of the Year, The Suburbs, gets a deluxe anniversary CD / DVD reissue. The CD includes two new tracks (one featuring vocals by David Byrne) and an extended version of "Wasted Hours," in addition to the original album. The DVD includes the Spike Jonze film Scenes from the Suburbs, as well as the companion documentary Behind the Scenes from the Suburbs, and the official music video for "The Suburbs." The exclusive booklet features lyrics and 80 pages of photos taken during the film. Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle [reissue] (Merge) .................................................. Merge is set to reissue all 4 Archers albums, starting with their debut. Re-mastered by Bob Weston and featuring liner notes by Robert Christgau, it comes with bonus material including The Greatest of All Time EP as well as singles and b-sides from the era. Like Pavement, Archers excel in making uneasy-listening pop, with sharp, angular guitars jutting this way and that, barring the listener from turning any corner without a little work. Eric Bachmann is as committed a rock singer as you'll find, impressively following every note with vocal cords stretched as far as they'll go. The two guitars caterwaul like trapped animals; the rhythm section churns out a solid, scary backbeat, gluing the whole mess together into a surprisingly powerful whole. Richard Buckner - Our Blood (Merge) .................................................. There are 3 kinds of American folk artists: those who sit, contented, on a back porch contemplating America's landscape and ways; those for whom its landscape and ways are something to stand against or move boldly through; and those whose America is a shadowy, impressionistic place that moves inside of them. This [latter] is the area that the sombre-voiced Richard Buckner has been exploring since 1984. Richard Buckner's voice - a husky, quivering moan equal parts Dwight Yoakam, Nick Cave, and an agitated grizzly bear - deserves the spotlight it's gotten on his dark country-folk albums. Drive-By Truckers - Greatest Hits (New West) .................................................. The first ever 'best of' collection from the acclaimed band led by Patterson Hood. Features songs from their eight albums including Southern Rock Opera, Decoration Day, The Dirty South, A Blessing & A Curse, and others. Compiled by Patterson Hood and featuring liner notes by Rolling Stone's David Fricke. Fruit Bats - Tripper (Sub Pop) .................................................. Tripper was recorded at WACS Studio in Los Angeles with Thom Monahan. For the first week of recording, Fruit Bats leader Eric D. Johnson brought in a full band to capture some of the live excitement of 2009's The Ruminant Band. However, having recently worked alone on soundtracks for an extended period, Johnson knew that he wanted Tripper to be more of a solitary pursuit than his previous album. The resulting album, a bittersweet meditation on hitting the road, leaving the familiar behind and reinventing yourself, is a reinvention itself. John Hiatt - Dirty Jeans and Mudslide Hymns (New West) .................................................. John Hiatt has created one of his most dynamic albums in the past decade. Produced by Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, Hiatt's timeless songwriting is paired with the aggressive blues guitar. Hiatt is back in the studio with his touring combo (Kenny Blevins on drums, Patrick O'Hearn on bass and Doug Lancio on guitars). The first single is "Damn This Town." Justin Hines - Days to Recall (Decca) .................................................. The Canadian singer's collection of heartfelt songs about life and love showcase his considerable talents, and his will to overcome insurmountable obstacles. The CD coincides with a PBS special of Hines in concert. Justin has thrived all his life against odds that would daunt someone with a less indomitable spirit. Hines has Larsen Syndrome, a joint dislocation condition that confines him to a wheelchair. He admits his condition has provided challenges. "There have been so many blessings. It's afforded me so many other opportunities. It's a bit of an attention grabber," he says. "But then my job is to keep people interested, and keep their attention with my music." Mariachi el Bronx - s/t (ATO) .................................................. In 2008, The Bronx diverted from their usual hard rock sound in favor of a mariachi style that is very much a part of the Mexican culture surrounding their hometown, Los Angeles. The band posted a video performing a song in mariachi style under the name Mariachi El Bronx. Slide to August 2011, and the band continues their path with their brand new release, Mariachi El Bronx (II). There is no way anyone would expect a Mariachi album recorded by some LA punks to be this good, let alone great. Flying far above novelty, Mariachi El Bronx brings us one of this year's most welcome surprises. Moonface - Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. You might recognize Spencer Krug from Wolf Parade, Sunset Rubdown, Frog Eyes or Swan Lake. "Moonface is not a band, just plain half-old me, in any solo or collaborative projects I'm involved in from now until whenever. In early 2010 the first EP was released on Jagjaguwar. It was called Dreamland EP: Marimba and Shit-Drums, and sounds as the title suggests. This past winter, trying to keep sane in my snowed-in Montreal home, I recorded another solo record." - Spencer Krug Tig Notaro - Good One (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. Tig was a fixture on The Sarah Silverman Program and recently appeared on Community. Good One contains well crafted and silly material touching on subjects such as her family tree, Mexican hotel door signs, birthing a dinosaur, and how Taylor Dayne is the easiest person in the world to run into, amongst other things. This deluxe version of the album contains the long anticipated DVD of Have Tig At Your Party, the human equivalent to the "burning log" DVDs. For a limited time, buy the CD or LP and get 1 FREE TICKET to any performance at The Comedy Attic, August 11-13th. Viva Brother - Famous First Words (A&M) .................................................. Viva Brother is a Gritpop band from Slough, UK. Viva Brother has landed swift success in their homeland, the UK. Moreover, they have a strong connection with their hometown of Slough. With many people referring to them as the "Slough boys" or Brother Slough, this hometown connection is part of the band's charm. Their rowdy shows have gotten extremely positive reviews both in the US and UK from outlets like the New York Times and Spin. Wood Brothers - Smoke Ring Halo (Southern Ground) .................................................. Oliver Wood (guitar, vocals) moved to Atlanta, honed his instrumental and vocal chops and formed one of the Southeast's most popular bands. His younger brother Chris Wood (bass, vocals, harmonica) moved to NYC, immersed himself in the city's jazz/improve scene and formed the internationally acclaimed, genre busting trio Medeski Martin & Wood. Produced by Jim Scott (Wilco, Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers). In addition to headlining venues across the country, The Wood Brothers have supported Levon Helm, K.D. Lang and Bruce Hornsby. Imelda May - Mayhem (Decca) .................................................. Imelda May, born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. She is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldn't be out of place in a David Lynch film) and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair. In Ireland, her debut album 'Love Tattoo', which she recorded and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum. She has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Sharon Shannon, Jeff Beck, Shane Macgowan, Kirsty McCall, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, Wanda Jackson, Paul Brady and Meatloaf. And now, with the release of her new album "Mayhem", she is about to go stellar. Washed Out - Within and Without (Sub Pop) .................................................. After a string of acclaimed EPs and appearances at the Pitchfork Festival and on the TV series Portlandia, Ernest Greene releases his first full-length under his Washed Out moniker, Within and Without. Recorded with Ben Allen, who worked on Merriweather Post Pavilion and Halcyon Digest, the album has the pedigree to be a synth pop critical darling. Free bonus 7" with purchase while supplies last! 311 - Universal Pulse (ATO) .................................................. New studio album from 311. 8.4 million albums sold in the US throughout their career! Album was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith) and was mixed by Chad Sexton. The album was recorded & mixed at 311’s own Hive Studio in Los Angeles. Nikki Jean - Pennies in a Jar (S-Curve) .................................................. Pennies In A Jar began with an idea- Nikki Jean would travel cross-country, working on songs with collaborators who would top any list of the greatest songwriters of all time. The plan was inspired, but also wild and improbable. Who could imagine that a new artist, still in her early 20s, could reach out to a wish list of Hall of fame songwriters, and that so many would say yes? What emerged is a compact musical history: the girl group sound, Motown, classic pop, Philly Soul, a place where country literally meets hip-hop, linked by Nikki Jean’s warmth and her infectious joy. Collaborations with Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Carly Simon, Bobby Braddock, Lupe Fiasco, Black Thought (The Roots), Thom Bell, Lamont Dozier, Paul Williams, Luigi Creatore, and Carole King. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
