NEW ARRIVALS for August 9th .................................................. Steve Cropper - Dedicated (429) .................................................. As the original guitarist of Stax Records house band Booker T. & The MG's, Steve Cropper has had a storied career. Voted #36 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time, Cropper has worked with blues legends such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and the Blues Brothers Band. His debut album on 429 Records is a tribute to R&B and doo wop act, The 5 Royales. The collection features reworked versions of the groups most enduring songs, and includes duets with Lucinda Williams, Bettye LaVette, John Popper, Sharon Jones, and others. Jim Ford - Harlan County (Light in the Attic) .................................................. Here's how it went down: Jim Ford, a musically minded country boy from rural Kentucky heads to the Golden State with dreams of making it. Making the scene in Los Angeles, he befriends and writes songs for such artists as Bobby Womack ("Harry Hippie"), Aretha Franklin, P.J. Proby, The Temptations, and even appears on Sly & the Family Stone's There's a Riot Goin' On. He eventually hooks up with legendary session players Dr. John, Jim Keltner (John Lennon), and James Burton (Elvis Presley) and books into the equally legendary Wally Heider Recording Studios to cut an album of blue-eyed country-funk and soul. The year is 1969. "Jimmy Ford is the baddest white man on the planet," said Sly Stone of Jim Ford, and listening to Harlan County today who's to argue? The Horrors - Skying (XL) .................................................. Southend England's The Horrors present their 3rd album. After releasing their sophomore album, Primary Colours (produced by Portishead's Geoff Barrow), in May 2009, NME made it a point to ask, "Is The Horrors' Primary Colours The Most Remarkable Second Album Reinvention Ever?" It seems so judging from the critical reaction and adoring fans who came out in droves to see The Horrors on tour throughout 2009 - both headlining and supporting The Kills and Nine Inch Nails. Radiohead - remix 12"s (TBD) .................................................. Volumes 2 & 3 of the Radiohead remix series. The second single features "Morning Mr. Magpie" remixed by Nathan Fake along with two "Bloom" remixes by Harmonic 313 and Mark Pritchard. The third single features "Feral (Lone RMX)," "Morning Mr. Magpie (Pearson Sound Scavenger RMX)," and "Separator (Four Tet RMX)." Radiohead have also noted: "Just so you know, we're planning to put this series together on CD at the end." But vinyl is way cooler, eh? Sleeping Bag - s/t (Joyful Noise) .................................................. Bloomington faves and graduates of the school of obscure 90s indie rock, Sleeping Bag's minimal aesthetic marries modern classics with a refined artistic sensibility. On their self-titled debut, Sleeping Bag has crafted a batch of 11 simplistic pop epics. These are songs that, as streamlined and basic as they are, seem to gain value with each listen. Simplicity without boredom it s a rare & precious thing. RIYL: Pavement, Pedro the Lion, Marmoset. VA - Wings Over Gabba LP (Negative Guest List) .................................................. Arcade Fire's 2011 Grammy Award winning Album of the Year, The Suburbs, gets a deluxe anniversary CD / DVD reissue. The CD includes two new tracks (one featuring vocals by David Byrne) and an extended version of "Wasted Hours," in addition to the original album. The DVD includes the Spike Jonze film Scenes from the Suburbs, as well as the companion documentary Behind the Scenes from the Suburbs, and the official music video for "The Suburbs." The exclusive booklet features lyrics and 80 pages of photos taken during the film. Imelda May - Mayhem (Decca) .................................................. Imelda May, born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. She is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldn't be out of place in a David Lynch film) and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair. In Ireland, her debut album 'Love Tattoo', which she recorded and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum. She has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Sharon Shannon, Jeff Beck, Shane Macgowan, Kirsty McCall, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, Wanda Jackson, Paul Brady and Meatloaf. And now, with the release of her new album "Mayhem", she is about to go stellar. Washed Out - Within and Without (Sub Pop) .................................................. After a string of acclaimed EPs and appearances at the Pitchfork Festival and on the TV series Portlandia, Ernest Greene releases his first full-length under his Washed Out moniker, Within and Without. Recorded with Ben Allen, who worked on Merriweather Post Pavilion and Halcyon Digest, the album has the pedigree to be a synth pop critical darling. Free bonus 7" with purchase while supplies last! 311 - Universal Pulse (ATO) .................................................. New studio album from 311. 8.4 million albums sold in the US throughout their career! Album was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith) and was mixed by Chad Sexton. The album was recorded & mixed at 311’s own Hive Studio in Los Angeles. Nikki Jean - Pennies in a Jar (S-Curve) .................................................. Pennies In A Jar began with an idea- Nikki Jean would travel cross-country, working on songs with collaborators who would top any list of the greatest songwriters of all time. The plan was inspired, but also wild and improbable. Who could imagine that a new artist, still in her early 20s, could reach out to a wish list of Hall of fame songwriters, and that so many would say yes? What emerged is a compact musical history: the girl group sound, Motown, classic pop, Philly Soul, a place where country literally meets hip-hop, linked by Nikki Jean’s warmth and her infectious joy. Collaborations with Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Carly Simon, Bobby Braddock, Lupe Fiasco, Black Thought (The Roots), Thom Bell, Lamont Dozier, Paul Williams, Luigi Creatore, and Carole King. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic or http://plus.google.com/102301181209961197707/ We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
