Two years ago the gentlemen of DR. DOG crammed themselves and several hundred elated fans into the basement of The Video Saloon for what may be one of the best shows in recent memory. How good was it? An artist who shall not be named playing across the street was such a fan that after his opening set he came to run lights for Dr. Dog. Now they move on up to The Bluebird stage themselves Friday, November 4th at 9pm. Tickets are $16 advance, $18 day of show and go on sale this Friday at noon at The Bluebird, Landlocked Music and all Ticketmaster outlets. If you can't wait until Friday, the good folks here at Landlocked Music will be giving away 2 pairs of tickets tomorrow (Wednesday). Stay tuned to our Twitter and/or Facebook to learn how to win! NEW ARRIVALS for August 16th .................................................. Botany - Feeling Today (Western Vinyl) .................................................. Feeling Today is Spencer Stephenson's debut release under the Botany moniker. The culmination of years of assembling music, this EP, and his full-length, flow with a transcendental radiance. Under the gauzy patina of decades-old samples, this Texan sound-sculptor masterfully merges the past and the present, the earthly and the infinite. RIYL Panda Bear, Washed Out, Neon Indian, Toro y Moi. LP version now, CD version very soon. Jeff Bridges - s/t (Blue Note) .................................................. The dude abides! New album from the Oscar-winning actor, performer and songwriter. A musician before his acting career took off, Bridges' award-winning and critically acclaimed role in 2009's Crazy Heart introduced his musical talents to a wider audience. Working with producer T-Bone Burnett again, this album picks up where Crazy Heart left off, proving that Jeff Bridges is a man for all seasons. Canon Blue - Rumspringa (Temporary Residence) .................................................. Though technically residing in Nashville, TN, singer-songwriter Daniel James spent the majority of 2009-11 touring the world with Efterklang while simultaneously writing and recording Rumspringa in their Copenhagen studio. He then headed to Iceland to record orchestral arrangements with renowned string quartet Amiina. The result is a breathtakingly gorgeous mix of orchestral pop and neoclassical minimalism that blends the soulful intimacy of Jeff Buckley and the playful whimsy of Sufjan Stevens with the stately meditation of Steve Reich and Philip Glass. Cool Kids - When Fish Ride Bicycles (Green Label) .................................................. The Cool Kids' irresistible, hooky rhymes and club cramming beats seamlessly bridge the old and new schools of hip hop while assuring them a sure-fire path to world-wide attention. The 14-track effort features collaborations with Travis Barker, Bun B, Ghostface Killah, Mayer Hawthorne Asher Roth, as well as production credit for Pharrell Williams on the track Summer Jam. The physical release contains 3 bonus tracks that are only available at record stores and are not on the digital release. Flaming Lips + Lightning Bolt - 12" EP (Lovely Sorts of Death) .................................................. The Flaming Lips and Providence noise beasts Lightning Bolt recently collaborated on a four-track EP, and the results are now out in the world. These songs are long, ranging in length from 6 to 11 minutes. The first two tracks are credited to the Flaming Lips with Lightning Bolt, and the next two are credited to Lightning Bolt with the Flaming Lips. Tracks include: I'm Working at NASA on Acid, I Want to Get High But I Don't Want Brain Damage, NASA's Final Acid Bath and I Want to Get Damaged But I Won't Say Hi. Gold Leaves - The Ornament (Hardly Art) .................................................. The Ornament by Gold Leaves is a collection of songs that tip the hat to Richard Hawley, Scott Walker/Walker Brothers, and the sound of late 70's AM radio pop. Songs that sound like sunlight coming up after an all night drive through the Redwoods. Gold Leaves is Grant Olsen of Arthur & Yu fame, and together with producer Jason Quever, of Papercuts fame, Olsen has made the album of his dreams, the album that has lived in his head. The Ornament is riddled with beautiful and optimistic swaying string and piano arrangements, lumbering bass booms, angelic back ups and Olsen's feather pillow voice. Mister Heavenly - Out of Love (Sub Pop) .................................................. Comprised of Nick Thornburn (Islands/Unicorns), Ryan Kattner (Man Man) and Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse), Mister Heavenly is a threesome drawing inspiration from a shared love of 1950s vocal-based R&B classics by ensembles like the Penguins, the Platters and the Moonglows and also a fascination with ill-fated romance. Maria Taylor - Overlook (Saddle Creek) .................................................. With a distinct, raw sound in mind, Maria Taylor self-produced for the first time and called upon friend and neighbor Lester Nuby III (Verbena) to engineer Overlook. She sought to capture the sound of the South, of Alabama and its music scene, enlisting a host of local musicians to flesh out the album and lend their personalities to the songs. The sessions ran loose and easy, with family and friends often stopping in and spending time as she recorded. The War on Drugs - Slave Ambient (Secretly Canadian) .................................................. On their debut, the life-affirming Wagonwheel Blues, The War on Drugs seemed obsessed with disparate ideas, with building uncompromised rock monuments from pieces that may have seemed like odd pairs. Electronic and instrumental reprises precede songs they've yet to play, and Dr. Seuss becomes lyrical motivation for bold futuristic visions. Granduciel has done it again, better than before: Slave Ambient, their proper second album, is a brilliant 47 minute sprawl of rock n roll, conceptualized with a sense of adventure and captured with seasons of bravado. Limited 2xCD w/ bonus Future Weather EP and red vinyl copies available! Also Released This Week .................................................. Arcade Fire's 2011 Grammy Award winning Album of the Year, The Suburbs, gets a deluxe anniversary CD / DVD reissue. The CD includes two new tracks (one featuring vocals by David Byrne) and an extended version of "Wasted Hours," in addition to the original album. The DVD includes the Spike Jonze film Scenes from the Suburbs, as well as the companion documentary Behind the Scenes from the Suburbs, and the official music video for "The Suburbs." The exclusive booklet features lyrics and 80 pages of photos taken during the film. Imelda May - Mayhem (Decca) .................................................. Imelda May, born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. She is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldn't be out of place in a David Lynch film) and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair. In Ireland, her debut album 'Love Tattoo', which she recorded and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum. She has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Sharon Shannon, Jeff Beck, Shane Macgowan, Kirsty McCall, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, Wanda Jackson, Paul Brady and Meatloaf. And now, with the release of her new album "Mayhem", she is about to go stellar. Washed Out - Within and Without (Sub Pop) .................................................. After a string of acclaimed EPs and appearances at the Pitchfork Festival and on the TV series Portlandia, Ernest Greene releases his first full-length under his Washed Out moniker, Within and Without. Recorded with Ben Allen, who worked on Merriweather Post Pavilion and Halcyon Digest, the album has the pedigree to be a synth pop critical darling. Free bonus 7" with purchase while supplies last! 311 - Universal Pulse (ATO) .................................................. New studio album from 311. 8.4 million albums sold in the US throughout their career! Album was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith) and was mixed by Chad Sexton. The album was recorded & mixed at 311’s own Hive Studio in Los Angeles. Nikki Jean - Pennies in a Jar (S-Curve) .................................................. Pennies In A Jar began with an idea- Nikki Jean would travel cross-country, working on songs with collaborators who would top any list of the greatest songwriters of all time. The plan was inspired, but also wild and improbable. Who could imagine that a new artist, still in her early 20s, could reach out to a wish list of Hall of fame songwriters, and that so many would say yes? What emerged is a compact musical history: the girl group sound, Motown, classic pop, Philly Soul, a place where country literally meets hip-hop, linked by Nikki Jean’s warmth and her infectious joy. Collaborations with Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Carly Simon, Bobby Braddock, Lupe Fiasco, Black Thought (The Roots), Thom Bell, Lamont Dozier, Paul Williams, Luigi Creatore, and Carole King. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic or http://plus.google.com/102301181209961197707/ We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
