NEW ARRIVALS for August 30th .................................................. Beirut - The Rip Tide (Pompeii) .................................................. Zach Condon's music often parallels the exotic mysteries of world travel. Since Beirut's last album, 2007's The Flying Club Cup, sang a love-letter to France (with a 2009 stop-off in Mexico for the March of the Zapotec EP), many asked where his songs would voyage next, but few predicted the inward journey Condon takes on The Rip Tide, an album with the most introspective and memorable songs of his young career. The Rip Tide marks a distinct leaping-off point for Beirut. Beginning life as small melodies conceived on piano or ukulele, the songs were built upon by the entire band in the studio before Condon's paring down and retrofitting. First pressings of LP and CD in a special foil-stamped, clothbound edition. Charnel House - Contagion (Sygil) .................................................. One of Bloomington's heaviest bands is back, following up their Leprosy of Unreality LP. The newest set of Charnel House recordings take the ideas of drone and repetition to differing levels of heaviness, presenting the clearest, most focused effort to date. Letterpressed in black ink on recycled gatefold sleeve, with 11x17 foldout poster and glass-mastered pro CD. Jacuzzi Boys - Glazin (Hardly Art) .................................................. Jacuzzi Boys hail from Miami and play fuzzy, metallic, power pop anthems. Glazin' is the group's second full length and first for Hardly Art. The album was recorded at Key Club Studio (Franz Ferdinand, the Kills, etc) and finds the JBs reaching a more refined and polished sound, complete with studio tricks and wizardry. The result is a sonic popsicle! Delicious and refreshing and a treat for your ears. Prepare to experience raspberry feelings all over live at The Bishop on October 14th! Male Bonding - Endless Now (Sub Pop) .................................................. Male Bonding is a noise-pop trio from London's Dalston neighborhood. This album, Endless Now, was recorded with producer John Agnello (Kurt Vile, Thurston Moore, Dinosaur Jr.) at Dreamland Studios in Woodstock, New York. Eleven tracks plus a wee reprise imbued with the fierce urgency of now, and catchy as all get-out, Endless Now is 36 minutes of songs tailor-made to anchor mix tapes and playlists if you can stand to separate them from the whole album. Mojo Magazine - September 2011 (MOJO) .................................................. Cover: Noel Gallagher: In this 16-page MOJO exclusive Will Hodgkinson speaks to the former Oasis songwriter about his return to recording, his new album, the end of his old band, that fateful plum and, on page 80, the essential films, books and music that define the man. Plus John Cooper Clarke, Miles Kane, Pre-Punk, James Brown's Polydor years, Nic Jones, TONS of reviews and a FREE CD, of course. Tom Morello the Nightwatchman - World Wide Rebel Songs (New West) .................................................. New solo album from the Rage Against The Machine guitarist. This self-produced effort is a change of pace from the usual acoustic offerings of past Nightwatchman albums, with the record featuring a full electric backing band called The Freedom Fighter Orchestra. In describing the record, Morello states, "Troubled times call out for troubled songs. World Wide Rebel Songs is an album of rousing hopelessness and this time The Nightwatchman has brought along his electric guitar to tip the scales. I wanted to capture a vibe midway between Johnny Cash and Che Guevara, murder ballads and Molotov anthems." Neon Indian - Fallout / Polish Girl 7" (Mom & Pop) .................................................. Neon Indian is Alan Palomo, the Mexican-born, Texas-raised, brilliantly lucid 21-year-old synth-wizard who learned his production chops as part of Ghosthunter and honed them in VEGA. Neon Indian's new full-length album - Era Extrana hits stores 9/13. This 2 track 7inch record is a cheapo teaser of what's in store for us. Buy it for $2 and get $2 off the full length CD or LP with the coupon enclosed in the package. Red Hot Chili Peppers - I'm With You (WB) .................................................. Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers tenth studio album. Recorded at East West In Los Angeles and Shangri-la in Malibu, CA, I'm With You was produced by Rick Rubin, who has produced the band's previous five albums, 2006's Stadium Arcadium, 2002's By The Way, 1999's Californication, 1995's One Hot Minute, and 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The album was mixed by Andrew Scheps and Greg Fidelman. Tinariwen - Tassili (Anti) .................................................. New release from this band of Tuareg musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali. On their enthralling new album, they have set down their electric guitars and returned to the very essence of their art. Recorded in a protected region of the South-Eastern Algerian desert, the group returned to the roots of their music, with only acoustic guitars and unamplified percussion. During recording, the band was joined by Tunde Adebimpe and Kyp Malone of the band TV On The Radio. Later on, guitarist Nels Cline (Wilco) and the horns of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band contributed to create an album that reaches deep into the essence of Tinariwen's sound while simultaneously opening itself to the surrounding world. Butch Walker & the Black Widows - Spade (Dangerbird) .................................................. An adrenaline-pumping blast of hook-fueled rock and roll, 10 new tracks written by Walker and recorded with his longtime bandmates and Patrick Keeler (Raconteurs) in Venice, CA. The record showcases Walker's sharp lyrical wit and unbridled affection for the anthemic pop of his youth, the album is full of knowing winks, half-cocked smiles, and monster sing-alongs. Walker writes with a boozy swagger, leading his band through what sounds like the soundtrack to the world's greatest house party. Yellow Ostrich - The Mistress (Barsuk) .................................................. The focal point of Yellow Ostrich's magnificent debut The Mistress is Wisconsin native Alex Schaaf's voice. It gets looped and layered, stretched and manipulated; it's stacked up several high and, most often, it's used as an instrument, fleshing out the empty spaces in his bare, searching songs. The album was originally recorded (largely by Schaaf himself with occasional help from a few friends) and given very limited release online for free via his Bandcamp site before he hooked up with now-fulltime bandmates Jon Natchez (bass, horns, vocals) and Michael Tapper (drums, vocals). The album has now been partially re-recorded and remastered with the addition of 3 new tracks! The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. The DVD includes the Spike Jonze film Scenes from the Suburbs, as well as the companion documentary Behind the Scenes from the Suburbs, and the official music video for "The Suburbs." The exclusive booklet features lyrics and 80 pages of photos taken during the film. Imelda May - Mayhem (Decca) .................................................. Imelda May, born in Dublin and raised in the Liberties, may be an unknown name to some, but to many she is already a superstar. She is unmistakable both in her music (a fusion of surf guitars, blues and rockabilly that wouldn't be out of place in a David Lynch film) and her style, with a solitary curl and shock of blonde in her jet black hair. In Ireland, her debut album 'Love Tattoo', which she recorded and released on her own label, has gone Triple Platinum. She has shared a stage with Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, David Gilmour, Sharon Shannon, Jeff Beck, Shane Macgowan, Kirsty McCall, Van Morrison, Lionel Richie, Wanda Jackson, Paul Brady and Meatloaf. And now, with the release of her new album "Mayhem", she is about to go stellar. Washed Out - Within and Without (Sub Pop) .................................................. After a string of acclaimed EPs and appearances at the Pitchfork Festival and on the TV series Portlandia, Ernest Greene releases his first full-length under his Washed Out moniker, Within and Without. Recorded with Ben Allen, who worked on Merriweather Post Pavilion and Halcyon Digest, the album has the pedigree to be a synth pop critical darling. Free bonus 7" with purchase while supplies last! 311 - Universal Pulse (ATO) .................................................. New studio album from 311. 8.4 million albums sold in the US throughout their career! Album was produced by Bob Rock (Metallica, Bon Jovi, Motley Crue, Aerosmith) and was mixed by Chad Sexton. The album was recorded & mixed at 311’s own Hive Studio in Los Angeles. Nikki Jean - Pennies in a Jar (S-Curve) .................................................. Pennies In A Jar began with an idea- Nikki Jean would travel cross-country, working on songs with collaborators who would top any list of the greatest songwriters of all time. The plan was inspired, but also wild and improbable. Who could imagine that a new artist, still in her early 20s, could reach out to a wish list of Hall of fame songwriters, and that so many would say yes? What emerged is a compact musical history: the girl group sound, Motown, classic pop, Philly Soul, a place where country literally meets hip-hop, linked by Nikki Jean’s warmth and her infectious joy. Collaborations with Bob Dylan, Burt Bacharach, Jimmy Webb, Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil, Carly Simon, Bobby Braddock, Lupe Fiasco, Black Thought (The Roots), Thom Bell, Lamont Dozier, Paul Williams, Luigi Creatore, and Carole King. -------------------------------------------------- More information about shows and more on the horizon is available for the technologically inclined at http://www.landlockedmusic.com/ or http://www.facebook.com/pages/Landlocked-Music/24299970219 or http://twitter.com/landlockedmusic or http://plus.google.com/102301181209961197707/ We are looking to buy/trade all your old unwanted CDs & LPs!
