On November 1st, the missing puzzle piece is finally available officially, wholly, for the first time - Brian Wilson's lost masterpiece for the Beach Boys, SMiLE. Rolling Stone magazine recently called SMiLE "the most famous unfinished album in rock & roll history." In several sessions between the summer of 1966 and early 1967, The Beach Boys recorded a bounty of songs and drafts for an album that was intended to follow the band's 1966 album, Pet Sounds. The master tapes were ultimately shelved, and it has never been released. Available as a 2CD, 2LP and hyper-deluxe 5CD+2LP+2x7" box set. PLEASE pre-order if you want this on release day, especially the box set. Let us know, thanks! NEW ARRIVALS for October 18th .................................................. Crisis Hotlines - Don't Wanna Go To Jail 7" (Eradicator) .................................................. These Austin, TX guys really nail the obscure 80’s punk feeling right on the head without sounding redundant or dated. It seems like Austin just breeds this kind of punk. Contains members of Lost Controls, Sex Advice, Love Collector and former Horribly Wrong. Rob Crow - He Thinks He's People (Temporary Residence) .................................................. More dynamic and eclectic than its predecessor, it marries Pinback frontman Rob Crow's penchant for drawing inspiration from a variety of genres with an uncanny ability to create a subtle, relaxing mood throughout. This is likely attributed to his remarkable voice, a trademark that has helped make Pinback an institution for the past decade. Kimya Dawson - Thunder Thighs (Great Crap Factory) .................................................. Ex-Moldy Peaches singer Kimya Dawson is most widely known for the Grammy nominated soundtrack for the movie Juno. Kimya's new solo album has major and minor themes including oceans, cancer, transgendered heroes, feeling safe in your own skin, saving public libraries and making big albums in a small, familial way. The album features guest performances by Aesop Rock and Pablo Das plus members of the Strokes & Mountain Goats. Forest Fire - Staring at the X (Fat Cat) .................................................. With their sophomore record, Forest Fire vocalist Mark Thresher, guitarist Nathan Delffs (formerly of Shaky Hands), bassist Natalie Stormann, drummer Robert Pounding, and keyboardist Adam Spittler reject the what's next-next attitude plaguing so many of the NYC/Brooklyn scene, innovating sonically at their own pace while maintaining a traditionalist's focus on songwriting. Gauntlet Hair - s/t (Dead Oceans) .................................................. This album is a subtle refinement of the sounds we've come to associate with the band- the trunk-rattling bass; the ecstatic, tinny post-punk guitar; the din of ecstasy. But what was once simply jarring in its audacity is now also bursting with new colors. While the band continues to mine the pulse-and-clap cues of modern club rap, the intricacies of Andy's Durutti Column-inspired, circular guitar lines come a bit more to the fore on Gauntlet Hair. Jane's Addiction - The Great Escape Artist (Capitol) .................................................. Spun through a kaleidoscope of tightly wound riffs, hypnotic harmonies, booming beats, and an unmistakable howl, the record announces the beginning of the next chapter for the alt rock torchbearers. Writing began in 2010 and by early 2011 the band entered a Los Angeles studio with producer Rich Costey, who introduced Perry Farrell, Dave Navarro and Stephen Perkins to TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek with the hopes of getting him involved somehow. Sitek stepped into the role of songwriter and bass player for the album with Navarro. Shelby Lynne - Revelation Road (Everso) .................................................. Revelation Road is Shelby's most personal record yet. She wrote, recorded and produced the album, which leads off with the title track and first single, a stirring reflection on reckoning and redemption. From Country to Pop and back again, this is Shelby at her finest. M83 - Hurry Up, We're Dreaming (Mute) .................................................. Produced by Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, NIN, Mars Volta, Goldfrapp) and including contributions from Brad Laner on guitar, Saturdays=Youth vocalist Morgan Kibby, and guest vocalist Zola Jesus, its a double-album journey that takes us to the horizon and introduces us to new landscapes. About awakening, craving, and conquering, Hurry Up, We're Dreaming pushes into new vocal territory for M83. Here we see Gonzalez test out different ways of singing, ranging from a spectral breathy whisper to a howling scream. My Brightest Diamond - All Things Will Unwind (Asthmatic Kitty) .................................................. The third stunning offer from Detroit based experimental pop chanteuse My Brightest Diamond, aka Shara Worden. Known for her many collaborations with indie rock royalty (Sufjan Stevens, Bon Iver, David Bryne, The Decemberists, and The National) as well as her extraordinary original material, Worden is coming into her own as an artist and human on this recording. Penguin Prison - s/t (Downtown) .................................................. Penguin Prison is the album you get if you have lived your life believing that the Holy Grail in terms of pop songs is one or all of the following: Billie Jean, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough, When Doves Cry and Fast Love. It posits Penguin Prison as an American cousin to Hot Chip. It is an album about relationships, love and loathing that you can dance to. Its hi-tech rhythms and lyrics definitely place it as a pop album but the heartache might conceivably be found on a country record. Psychic Ills - Hazed Dream (Sacred Bones) .................................................. Since their formation in 2003 as a home-recording experiment, the Ills have evolved into a live band, in their element playing the extended jam. Musically, it also marks a departure from some of the band's more recent sonic explorations. The raga rumbles and synthesizer space-outs aren't gone all together; the singular blasted musical perspective of the Ills remains. Pujol - Nasty, Brutish, and Short (Saddle Creek) .................................................. Continually shot out of a cannon, Pujol contorted through his latest flaming hoop with the recording and release of this new EP. The EP becomes Pujol's 10th release in less than 2 years after acclaimed singles, full lengths and EPs on various labels. The EP focuses on fragmentation, compartmentalization, and the idea of cultural maxims dominating the individual's ability to vocalize and interact with the external world, err somethin. Real Estate - Days (Domino) .................................................. Days is a gorgeous suite of timelessly melodic, achingly melancholy pop songs and a delightfully confident follow up to 2009's exceptionally well received eponymous debut. The Vinyl Zone (get into the groove!) .................................................. Thee Cormans - Halloween Record w/ Sound Effects LP (In the Red) Ding Dongs - 4 Song EP 7" (Sultan) Dirty Beaches - Lone Runner 7" (Suicide Squeeze) Korallreven - As Young As Yesterday 12" (Acephale) Little Ed & the Soundmasters - 7" box (Numero Group) Na Hawa Doumbia - La Grande Cantatrice Mallenna LP (Awesome Tapes from Africa) Mark Sultan - Livin My Life 7" (Sultan) Richard Swift - Walt Wolfman 12" (Secretly Canadian) Total Abuse - Prison Sweat LP (PPM) VA - Titan: It's All Pop LP Box (Numero Group) Also Released This Week ..................................................
