The name Plaid Friday celebrates the diversity and creativity of independent businesses. Plaid Friday is the fun and enjoyable alternative to the big box store "Black Friday", and is designed to promote both local and independently owned businesses during the holidays. Let's take the mournful black out of that friday and make it a plaid. Check out a listing of great local businesses here: http://www.localfirstindiana.org/business-directory/ This year there are going to be some pretty great titles released the day after Thanksgiving. Beatles, Black Keys, Iron & Wine, Sharon Jones, Wilco, Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams, Soundgarden, Civil Wars, Kings of Leon, Tom Petty, Phish, Fear, Dr Dog, Pinback and much more! Childish Gambino - Camp (Glassnote) .................................................. At 27, Donald Glover is one of the most sought after multithreats in Hollywood, a former writer for the Emmy award winning 30 Rock, a network TV gig on the NBC hit series as Troy in 'Community', a few movies on deck, including the 'Muppets Movie' and 'The To-Do List', a sideline gig doing stand-up comedy, a Comedy Central script of his own in the works, and a career as a rapper, performing under the name 'Childish Gambino'. Crystal Stilts - Radiant Door EP (Sacred Bones) .................................................. Sacred Bones is elated to present the Radiant Door EP from a NY band that has been very near and dear to our hearts for many years now, the Crystal Stilts. Recorded in early 2011 by Gary Olson, with the band s guitarist JB Townsend producing, Radiant Door unveils some of the Stilts most dynamic recordings to date. The Album features the beguiling blend of romanticism and mystery that one expects from singer and lyricist Brad Hargett. Goldmund - All Will Prosper (Western Vinyl) .................................................. Keith Kenniff's new album under the Goldmund moniker is a collection of 14 traditional Civil War-era folk songs and one contemporary track, "Asoken Farewell." Kenniff has always been a student of Civil War history and culture. From the Ken Burns documentary series on PBS to Bill Carothers' solo piano album The Blues and The Greys, he has studied and enjoyed the music that tied friends and families together in a time when the nation was being torn apart. Los Campesinos - Hello Sadness (Arts & Crafts) .................................................. Hello Sadness is the fourth record by Los Campesinos! Its 10 tracks cover what we are coming to recognize as core Los Campesinosconcerns - love, loss, heartbreak, football (always football). But this is a record that's wiser and more focused than its predecessors, confident in its abilities and clear in its aims. It is an honest, bare-bones documentation of two people breaking up and trying not to break up in the process, and is simultaneously the most focused collection by the band to date. Odonis Odonis - Hollandaze (Fat Cat) .................................................. The debut onslaught from Toronto-based Odonis Odonis - a project from former Ten Kens member Dean Tzenos - Hollandaze is a grimy, gum-splattered ménage of surf-gaze, punk and lo-fi, cut from twanging reverb & fuzz heavy guitars, thick, driving bass-and-drum machines and overdriven Hammond organ. Hollandaze, which compiles home recordings created over a couple of years, is a collection of killer, hook-driven tunes that hark back to the classic '80s sounds of The Jesus & Mary Chain, Pixies, Big Black and The Cure. Thee Oh Sees - Carrion Crawler (In the Red) .................................................. What's the first thing you think of when someone mentions Thee Oh Sees? Probably their riot-sparking live show, right? Visions of a guitar-chewing, melody-maiming John Dwyer careening across your cranium, rounded out by a wild-eyed wrecking crew that drives every last hook home like it's a nail in the coffin of what you thought it meant to make 21st-century Rock 'n' Roll? Yeah, that sounds about right. But it misses a more important point: how impossible Thee Oh Sees have been to pin down since Dwyer launched the project in the late 90s. That restlessness extends to everything from the towering, 13-minute title track of 2010's Warm Slime LP to the mercurial moods of 2008's The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In. Pterodactyl - Spills Out (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. On third album, Spills Out, Brooklyn noise-punk mischief-makers Pterodactyl have mutated from their abrasive loft-show roots into a glorious, broken-pop juggernaut. The band's squealing, sweat-soaked art-bustle had rapidly put them alongside contemporaries like Oneida, These Are Powers and Parts & Labor; but Spills Out gently leads the trio towards the uplifting, wistful harmonies of '60s rockers like The Zombies, CSNY and the pre-acid Beatles. REM - Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage: 1982-2011 (WB) .................................................. The album is a 40-song career-spanning retrospective that collects, for the first time ever, songs from REM's entire back catalog, including the pioneering American band's years on both IRS (1982-87) and Warner Bros. (88-2011). In addition to liner notes written by band members Berry, Buck, Mills, and Stipe, the album also features 3 new songs the band finished after they completed their last album, Collapse Into Now: "A Month of Saturdays," "We All Go Back To Where We Belong," and "Hallelujah," which were recorded over the summer in Athens with producer Jacknife Lee. Nathan Salsburg - Affirmed (No Quarter) .................................................. Louisville's Nathan Salsburg is a folklorist, producer, and presenter of vernacular music for East Village Radio, the Drag City imprint Twos & Fews, and the Alan Lomax Archive. With his first solo record he enters a wholly new interaction with the corpus of American (and British) musical folklore. Playing December 3rd at The Bishop with the Hollows! He also played a great acoustic instore at Landlocked a month ago for the release of his duo album with James Elkington. Sigur Ros - Inni (XL) .................................................. The definitive Sigur Ros live experience, comprised of a live album and a 75 minute concert film, capturing Sigur Ros last show before their well-documented "indefinite hiatus" at the end of 2008. Recorded and shot over 2 nights in London, at the close of the world tour for their 5th album. The DVD contains Sigur Ros' 2nd live film following 2007's hugely-celebrated tour documentary Heima and was directed by Vincent Morisset (Arcade Fire's Miroir Noir) and captures the band as a core 4-piece. Betty Wright & the Roots - Betty Wright: The Movie (S-Curve) .................................................. Ms. Wright began singing at about the time she began walking: she started performing with Miami-based gospel The Echoes at age three and remained with them for the next seven years. She released her first single at age 13 and had her first bona-fide smash at 19: "Clean Up Woman," which has become Wright's signature song, vaulted to the top of the charts, earning her a gold record and the first of her 15 eventual Grammy nominations. "Betty Wright: The Movie" serves up 14 earthy, funk-drenched soul anthems, all of which were co-written by Wright and co-produced by Wright, Ahimir "Questlove" Thompson of The Roots, and Angelo Morris. The album features guest performances by Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg, Joss Stone, and more. VA - This Warm December Vol 2 (Brushfire) .................................................. The new 12-song album contains festive originals by Jack Johnson, G. Love, Matt Costa, ALO, Money Mark, Zach Gill, Paula Fuga and Neil Halstead. Seasonal classics, such as "Frosty The Snowman" by Zee Avi, "Jingle Bell Rock" by Rogue Wave and a cover of The Band's "Christmas Must Be Tonight" by Bahamas round out this holiday collection. 25% of the profits from the album will go to Little Kids Rock, Silverlake Conservatory and a variety of other charities benefiting children's music education.
