Welcome to 2013 and welcome back to our regularly scheduled broadcast! What will a new year have in store for us all? Tons of great music, of course. Lots of promotions and goodies and events and fun, for sure. Coming this March will be Landlocked's 7th birthday, expect news for that soon! Thanks, as always, for reading and supporting us. See you soon! New Arrivals for January 8th .................................................. Bare Wires - Idle Dreams LP (Southpaw) .................................................. Front man Matthew Melton seemed to only care about writing hook heavy garage songs and taking these songs on the road every chance he could get. Whether he was touring with Thee Oh Sees, opening for Mark Sultan, or playing a house show somewhere inbetween, the band just never stopped. Yet, after spending the last 3 years being the uncontested kings of the road, Bare Wires are dead. The Oakland staple crumbled during SXSW this year. After failed performances one member ended up hospitalized and another MIA. Melton packed up the van and headed home, knowing they had run their course. From the ruins of this tour comes the last Bare Wires record. The album unintentionally takes us through the Bare Wires timeline. Melton's influences unfold from his early worship of Stooges/Gories to the later imprints of Glam/Power Pop-heavy records recalling T-Rex and Gary Glitter. Broadcast - Berberian Sound Studio (Warp) .................................................. Peter Strickland's Berberian Sound Studio has emerged as one of the most critically acclaimed indie films of the year, The film's sublime soundtrack, composed by Broadcast (aka Trish Keenan and James Cargill), before Trish's untimely passing last year, sets a sinister and atmospheric tone that still exists well within Broadcast's sonic universe. Dropkick Murphys - Signed and Sealed in Blood (Dropkick) .................................................. On their eighth full-length album, The Dropkick Murphys come out swinging: The guitars are ballsier, the gang vocals are louder, the hooks are catchier, the lyricsstop you in your tracks. Dropkick Murphys aren't just loud and brash, they're at the top of their game as songwriters. Ex-Cult - s/t (Goner) .................................................. In Memphis in early 2011, five people joined forces to start a punk rock band. Playing a series of house parties and gigs in dive bars, Ex-Cult honed their sound- a punk rock sweet spot that incorporates angular post-punk, flying saucer fuzz guitar, snotty vocals and bash-your-head-in energy. A real stone groove! Killer linear punk 1 la Wire, Urinals, or Australia's X. A show at SXSW caught the attention of indie wonderkind Ty Segall, and the two began making plans to record in San Francisco. This is the end result- a debut album that takes the living energy of their show and crams it onto the grooves of an LP. Fuzz - This Time I Got A Reason 7" (Trouble in Mind) .................................................. Since it's first issue in 1966, the 'Fuzz Face' pedal has sung it's distorted siren song & lured many a burgeoning guitar player to the rock. Hendrix & Townshend swore by them, and apparently so does the San Francisco group FUZZ aka Ty Segall & Charlie Moonheart. Two addictive & ferocious slabs of doomy fuzzed-out rock & ROLL that break open the gates of Hades & lurch forward like rabid hounds of Hell! Both tracks are flaming embers of molten rock that evoke a serpentine head-banging & rage skyward on evil riffs like the red-headed stepchildren of Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Jerusalem & Wicked Lady! Mojo Magazine - Fleetwood Mac cover (Mojo) .................................................. The stories that surround the making of 1977's Rumours are strange, romantic and wild. The reality is, if anything, even more startling. Mark Blake speaks to the main players and leads them down the road of excess once more. Plus Scott Walker, Peter Hook, Graham Parker, the best of 2012 and a FREE CD: A tribute to Fleetwood Mac's classic 1977 album Rumours; featuring Yeasayer, Mary Epworth, The Staves, Liars, Dylan Leblanc, The Besnard Lakes, Julia Holter & more. VA - Velvet Underground & Nico By Castle Face And Friends (Castleface) .................................................. With tracks from KELLEY STOLTZ, WARM SODA (Matthew Melton from Bare Wires), TY SEGALL, BLASTED CANYONS (feat. JEREMY COX of ROYAL BATHS), WHITE FENCE, FRESH & ONLYS, BURNT ONES, THE MALLARD, K. DYLAN EDRICH AND THE BLACK ANGELS DEATHSONGSMEN, HERE COME THE HERE COMES, and THEE OH SEES. Packaged with artwork by DAVID SHRIGLEY. The Vinyl Zone ..................................................
