Sunday April 14th at 4PM we will be featuring an acoustic performance from Daniel Bachman. Daniel was born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA. He has been playing what he describes as "psychedelic appalachia" since he was a teenager, releasing small run editions of tapes, CDs & LPs (and now on Tompkins Square Records), with a sound that evolved from drones and banjos to a now guitar centered focus. He has managed to cover thorough ground across the US, sharing stages with like minded folk such as fellow Fredericksburg native Jack Rose. Join us, 4PM, Sunday April 14th, FREE! You may not know William Tyler by name, but you have surely heard him playing guitar, as he has provided some tasty licks for Nashville's Lambchop and Silver Jews, amongst others. He also has a brand new solo album on Merge Records entitled Impossible Truth. And he will be stopping by Landlocked Music to play an instore performance on Sunday April 28th at 1PM. Watch a video teaser and come hang out with us! Record Store Day 2013 is locked and loaded for Saturday April 20th. Mark your calendars, plan your vacation, book a babysitter or call in sick to work. What's happening: Great live music (The Vallures, Joe from Elephant Micah, Full Sun), fun DJs (Lowrain, Juice Stand, Goodhands, Lord Fried Pie), awesome vinyl artifacts, some tasty refreshments, high fives, and ... surprises! Check out the ever-growing gallery on Facebook over the next few weeks and start planning your list for RSD! CALIFONE returns to Bloomington on May 15th! Tickets for this intimate performance are only available online, and its about half-way sold out! Get em now or regret it later. New Arrivals for April 2nd .................................................. Alkaline Trio - My Shame is True (Epitaph) .................................................. It's been over a decade since Alkaline Trio released their first full-length album, Goddamnit. In that time, they've toured the world, sold over a million records and expanded their sound beyond their original straight-ahead punk style, incorporating more melody and production. With My Shame Is True, their eighth studio album, Alkaline Trio have honed their songwriting craft to a new high, coming with their strongest set of songs to date. Olafur Arnalds - For Now I Am Winter (Mercury) .................................................. The major label debut of Icelandic composer Olafur Arnaldss features 12 original breathtaking surreal tracks. On this album, composer Nico Muhly provided orchestral arrangements, and Arnalds introduces vocals to his soundworld. Icelandic singer Arnor Dan can be heard on 4 tracks. Arnalds continues to steadily build a reputation as one of the worlds most bright and able young composers. On his past outings and last studio album the basis was almost always piano and strings with electronic embellishments. Now the dynamic has shifted, with Arnalds thinking in terms decidedly more poppy than before. Besnard Lakes - Until In Excess, Imperceptible UFO (Jagjaguwar) .................................................. With Until in Excess, Imperceptible UFO, The Besnard Lakes create a distinct and dreamy headspace, an enigmatic and somehow familiar placelessness. It happens in such a way that both the close and casual listener find themselves immersed in the generous sonic vision, one moment as timeless as the next. Besnard Lakes create albums, meant to be played loud and grow on and in you. Playing at The Bishop on 4/22 with Suuns! Black Angels - Indigo Meadow (Blue Horizon) .................................................. Indigo Meadow marks the Austin, TX based band's 4th album. The Black Angels prove themselves as an avatar of contemporary psychedelic rock, simultaneously exalting the genre's kaleidoscopic past as they thrust it further into the future. Now a four-piece ably supported behind the board by producer John Congleton the band have brought new focus to their wide-ranging song craft, the righteous riffs and dogmatic drones gaining increased power as they fuel a more expansive emotional terrain. Bonobo - The North Borders (Ninja Tune) .................................................. It's been almost 3 years since the release of Bonobo's masterful, mould-breaking Black Sands, an album that saw him touring a hypnotic live show across the world for well over a year. Now, in 2013, he stands ready to take things up yet another notch. 'The North Borders' is a long stride forward - both a natural evolution and a continuation of the electronic palette of Black Sands. Thematic, resonant, addictive and perfectly formed, it's a thrillingly coherent statement piece. Charles Bradley - Victim of Love (Daptone) .................................................. New release from the veteran R&B vocalist AKA the 'Screaming Eagle of Soul'. Bradley and Thomas "TNT" Brenneck returned to Dunham studios and have recorded the most exciting Daptone release to date. On this album, Bradley moves past his "Heartaches and Pain" to the great promise of hope and love. Though quite at home among the music that has affirmed Daptone as the world's #1 authority on Soul Music, Victim of Love proves to be a genre-bending masterpiece, picking up where the early 70s Temptations left off and edging boldly forward into psychedelic soul exploration. Caveman - s/t (Fat Possum) .................................................. The deliberate soft focus lends depth and an air of mystery to what might have been cool-headed, straightforward indie-rock; there are echoes of the Feelies, the Strokes and, somewhere in the distance, the Beach Boys. - NY Times Cold War Kids - Dear Miss Lonelyhearts (Downtown) .................................................. Fourth album from the Long Beach-based Indie rockers. Marking the band's first new material since the release of 2011's Mine Is Yours, the album was recorded in their California studio with producer Lars Stalfors (The Mars Volta, Matt & Kim). It's the first release to feature former Modest Mouse member Dann Gallucci, who replaced the Jonathan Russell earlier this year. Kopecky Family Band - Kids Raising Kids (ATO) .................................................. Although the 6 members of the Kopecky Family Band aren't related by blood, they function with a sense of harmony common in family outfits. Formed in 2007, the group released a series of EPs before finally releasing its first full-length album, Kids Raising Kids, in 2012. The band's eclectic mix of orchestral sounds and soothing melodies earned it the title of "Artist to Watch". Milk Music - Cruise Your Illusion (Fat Possum) .................................................. The debut album from the Olympia, WA-based punk rockers. It follows the band's 2010 Beyond Living 12" EP, as well as last year's Almost Live cassette. The band was formed by two brothers, Alex Coxen and Joe Rutter (who couldn't play music yet), who dreamed of starting a band. So, they did what all good Olympians do: They learned their instruments, toiled and toiled, until they came out with some off-beat, catchy hits. Mudhoney - Vanishing Point (Sub Pop) .................................................. Vanishing Point affirms that, even in an age where only the newest of the new can survive, Mudhoney still have plenty to say and more to offer. These are songs written from the rare vantage point of a band who went through the rock n roll meat-grinder and not only lived to tell such a tale, they came out full of the wisdom and dark humor such a journey provides. The album is filled with dread, psychoanalysis & Nuggets-on-fire riffs; the sort of uninhibited rock music that is harder and harder to locate these days. Port St Willow - Holiday (Downtown) .................................................. A music and art project from Brooklyn, "New York's Nicholas Principe. Principe is a collaborator and childhood friend of Antlers frontman Pete Silberman. They share musical ideas, but the Antlers are more typical of a rock band that prefers demonstrative, emotional storytelling and skyscraping choruses, while Port St. Willow are more attuned to impressionism and studied musicianship." - Pitchfork. Rilo Kiley - Rkives (Little) .................................................. RKives is a long awaited collection of unreleased songs, b-sides, and rarities spanning Rilo Kiley's decade-long career. The record includes 9 never before released songs, a variety of demos, b-sides, and previously hard to find tracks. The 16-song CD and 2LP is complimented by artwork lovingly designed by the band with a rich mix of personal photos, collages, and hand written lyrics. Telekenesis - Dormarion (Merge) .................................................. Lerner wrote the 12 songs that comprise Dormarion in early 2012, and road-tripped over the summer to Spoon drummer Jim Eno's Austin TX studio to make the record. "It's a beautiful-sounding word, and if you Google it, nothing but this one tiny street comes up," says Lerner, although this is obviously about to change. "No origin, no description. I can't tell you what the word means. It's like something from Lost." Tyler the Creator - Wolf (Columbia) .................................................. The third studio album from the Hip Hop artist and Odd Future leader. Wolf is Tyler's highly anticipated follow-up to the critically-acclaimed May 2011 release, Goblin. The album features collaborations with Hodgy Beats, Frank Ocean, Pharrell, Earl Sweatshirt, Erykah Badu, and many others. Features the single 'Domo23'. Charles Walker & the Dynamites - Love is Only Everything (Gemco) .................................................. Charles Walker continues his age-defying prowess, at the top of his powers; strong and getting stronger. The Dynamites continue their relentless commitment to the greatest, most positive and celebratory musical art form in America. And together, they continue to passionately deliver the word here and abroad. Get ready, all you heartstrings and dancefloors, for Round 3 of The Dynamites Featuring Charles Walker. VA - The Music Is You: John Denver Tribute (ATO) .................................................. 15 years after his death and 40 years after the release of his widely beloved song 'Rocky Mountain High,' ATO Records celebrates John Denver's life and music with The Music Is You. The album features covers of Denver's most popular songs by a diverse group of artists including My Morning Jacket, Emmylou Harris, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, J. Mascis & Sharon Van Etten, Old Crow Medicine Show, Lucinda Williams, Josh Ritter and many others. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Wilderness Society in John's name.
