We have THREE instore performances this month for your listening plessure. They are all FREE, all on weekends, and all mid-afternoon. Bring your kids, bring your granny, buy some records, shake your fanny! First, this Sunday, April 14th, at 4PM - we will be featuring a free performance from Daniel Bachman. Daniel was born and raised in Fredericksburg, VA. He has been playing what he describes as "psychedelic appalachia" since he was a teenager, releasing small run editions of tapes, CDs & LPs (and on Tompkins Square Records), with a sound that evolved from drones and banjos to a now guitar centered focus. He has managed to cover thorough ground across the US, sharing stages with like minded folk such as fellow Fredericksburg native Jack Rose. Join us at 4PM, Sunday April 14th! #2! POW WOW - Jangly, upbeat 60s-style pop from members of The Perennials and The Midwest Beat. Straight outta Milwaukee, WI. Live and FREE at Landlocked Music on Saturday April 27th, starting at 4pm. Come on out and have a real good time! Tres: You may not know William Tyler by name, but you have surely heard him playing guitar, as he has provided some tasty licks for Nashville's Lambchop and Silver Jews, amongst others. He also has a brand new solo album on Merge Records entitled Impossible Truth. And he will be stopping by Landlocked Music to play an instore performance on Sunday, April 28th at 1PM. Watch a video teaser and come hang out! Record Store Day 2013 is lookin good on Saturday April 20th. What's happening: Great live music (the soulful ladies of The Vallures, Joe from Elephant Micah, the debut of the full band version of Full Sun), fun DJs (Lowrain, Juice Stand, Goodhands, Lord Fried Pie), awesome vinyl artifacts, some tasty refreshments, custom screenprints from Rhino's, a Golden Ticket to the Forecastle Music & Arts Festival and more! Check out the ever-growing gallery on Facebook and start planning your list for RSD2013! CALIFONE returns to Bloomington on May 15th! Tickets for this intimate performance are only available online, and its about half-way sold out! Get em now or regret it later. New Arrivals for April 9th .................................................. James Blake - Overgrown (Republic) .................................................. Musically broad and emotionally deep, Overgrown as big as an advance on James's eponymous 2011 debut. The growth is similar to the evolution that album evinced from the mercurial UK dubstep of his early EPs. It also reflects how much the 24-year-old Londoner's life has changed in the past two years. His debut sold over 400,000 copies - quite a feat for a record so uncompromisingly introspective and experimental. It also picked up Mercury, BRIT and Ivor Novello nominations, sent him around the world on tour, and brought him into contact with a wide array of fans and collaborators that includes not only Mitchell but Jay-Z, Kanye West, Bon Iver, Bjork, Drake, Brian Eno, and The RZA. Broadheds - s/t (Dangerbird) .................................................. A collaboration in the truest sense of the word. Churned out live and loud and fast with ska-influenced punk abandon in a grubby East L.A. studio over 3 blazingly fast days, Broadheds revisits teen angst, hope, and innocence with lots of laughs, lots of sweat, and lots of blisters. Written and produced by Peter Walker (Eulogies), who fronts the band and plays guitar. Justin Meldal-Johnsen (Beck, Nine Inch Nails) plays bass, and executive produced the album. Denny Weston Jr. (Kooks, Earlimart) plays drums. James King (Fitz and the Tantrums, M83) plays saxophone. Dawes - Stories Don't End (Hub) .................................................. Stories Don't End is Los Angeles roots rock quartet Dawes' third full-length album out April 9th. Produced by Jacquire King (Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, Norah Jones, etc.), Stories Don't End is the band's first release on its own label, Hub Records. Recorded in five weeks last September in Asheville, North Carolina, Stories Don't End features clean production from King, who helped the band break out of its vintage mold, though they don't completely strip away that Laurel Canyon sound. Deadstring Brothers - Cannery Row (Bloodshot) .................................................. In 2010, the Deadstring Brothers did a reverse of the great Southern Migration, decamping from hometown Detroit and moving to Nashville. And while you can never, ever take all the Detroit out of a Detroiter, Cannery Row has a loose-limbed melancholy reminiscent of the Laurel Canyon folk scene, the outlaw Nashville days and the Upstate NY counterculture spirit of the Band. Like a hitchhiker with a dirty backpack, a well-worn leather hat, a beat up guitar case and a wistful distant smile, the Brothers have piled up stories like the highway miles and created something pretty damn close to that old G. Parsons dream of Cosmic American Music. Keaton Henson - Birthdays (Anti) .................................................. You hear a voice in a room. It is tender and gentle, but it bites at your bones. You hear a guitar's golden echoes, creating a cocoon you can't leave. You hear the voice of a 24-year-old man whose songs, artwork and poetry are known by hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Yet Keaton Henson is a virtual stranger, whose anonymity is no accident. He has never toured, posted on social networks, and rarely leaves his hometown or his bedroom. He may be delicate, but he is no wallflower: Keaton's songs are as brutal as they are beautiful. The Knife - Shaking the Habitual (Mute) .................................................. The Knife was formed in Gothenburg Sweden by sister/brother duo Karin Dreijer Andersson and Olof Dreijer. Having released four albums as The Knife (including their operatic collaboration with Mt Sims and Planningtorock) and multiple side projects, the duo have proven themselves to be truly unique and prolific artists working by their own rules. Shaking the Habitual is The Knife's highly anticipated first proper album since 2006s Silent Shout. 2CD and 3LP version also available! OMD - English Electric (BMG) .................................................. The 12th studio album from the British synthpop act and the second since the reformation of the original band (Andy McCluskey, Paul Humphreys, Martin Cooper and Malcolm Holmes). The album features a guest appearance from former Propaganda/Act vocalist Claudio Brucken. Artwork is by Peter Saville. Features 'Metroland' and 'Atomic Ranch'. Paramore - s/t (Fueled by Ramen) .................................................. Lead-off single "Now" - with lyrics like "if there's a future, we want it now" - sets the urgent tone of Paramore, the Nashville, Tennessee-bred band's fourth album. Given the choice of packing it in or reinventing themselves as a trio, Williams, guitarist Taylor York, and bassist Jeremy Davis chose the latter and made a positive, uplifting album that reflects who they are in the present. "I'm really proud of the fact that this is not an angry Paramore album, " Williams says. Adds Davis: "It's a lot happier and brighter album than people might expect given what's happened. We've wanted to write songs like this for so long, but weren't there emotionally. Now we are." The Postal Service - Give Up [deluxe] (Sub Pop) .................................................. To celebrate the 10 year anniversary, Sub Pop is reissuing The Postal Service's sole album, and including in the multidisc set 15 bonus tracks, including 2 brand new songs, "A Tattered Line of String" and "Turn Around. " On top of that, the band is back together: The Postal Service will hit the road in 2013 for a long-overdue victory lap, giving most fans their first chance to see the group in person. Of course, the band's music was more than just electro-pop, and the force with which Jimmy (Dntel) and Ben (Death Cab) captured the indie-rock zeitgeist of the early aughts made them more of a phenomenon than just a regular old band. Kurt Vile - Wakin on a Pretty Daze (Matador) .................................................. Kurt Vile is slowly, quietly becoming one of the great American guitarists and songwriters of our time. This 69-minute album is comprised of sweeping, expansive songs that are both very intimate and conversational. Wakin On A Pretty Daze is a timeless record that would have sounded great 30 years ago, sounds great today, and will still sound great in another 30 years' from now. Beautifully produced by John Agnello, the record is filled with hazy, swooning guitar lines and dreamy, beatific, and occasionally sardonic vocals. It is summed up by the staggeringly gorgeous 9-minute opener. Deluxe 2LP comes on blue vinyl, feature a special cover without the graffiti and include a sticker sheet of graffiti icons to customize your own copy.
