Bands performing include: Songs: Ohia (members from all over the country and all eras performing songs specific to the eras in which they recorded with Jason), Magnolia Electric Co (with special guest singers and musicians), Oneida, and The Coke Dares. Special Guests Include (in no particular order): Swearing at Motorists, Jennie Benford, Mike Brenner, Andy Cohen & Tim Midget of Bottomless Pit/Silkworm, David Vandervelde, members of Golden Boots, Lawrence Peters, Elephant Micah, Chris Kupersmith, and many more! The Source Family was a radical experiment in 70s utopian living. Their outlandish style, popular health food restaurant, rock band, and beautiful women made them the darlings of Hollywood's Sunset Strip; but their outsider ideals and the unconventional behavior of their spiritual leader, Father Yod, caused controversy with local authorities. They fled to Hawaii, leading to their dramatic demise. The Source Family documentary film is being presented in partnership with Landlocked Music, IU Cinema and Drag City Records. Free tickets are available exclusively at Landlocked Music. The soundtrack for the film is being released on May 21, and will be available in the Cinema before and after the screening along with other Ya Ho Wa treasures. New Arrivals for May 7th .................................................. Child of Lov - s/t (Domino) .................................................. The Child Of Lov is the debut album from Cole Williams. Cole's singing style is rich in the cadences of funk, blues and soul. His musical influences range from Stevie Wonder, Prince and J Dilla to Beck and even Tom Waits. The Child Of Lov features collaborations with Damon Albarn (Blur, Gorillaz) MF DOOM (Madlib) and Thundercat (Erykah Badu, Flying Lotus). Mikal Cronin - MCII (Merge) .................................................. Mikal Cronin's self-titled debut from 2011 was all about endings: the end of college, the end of a serious relationship, and the end of his time in Los Angeles, where he grew up. So it's no surprise that his sophomore release MCII and first disc for Merge Records is all about new beginnings. Deerhunter - Monomania (4AD) .................................................. After a brief hiatus following the success of third album Halcyon Digest, during which time Bradford Cox and Lockett Pundt released their own albums as Atlas Sound and Lotus Plaza respectively, a new Deerhunter line-up (with additions of bassist Josh Mckay and guitarist Frankie Broyles) reconvened in January 2013 at Rare Book Studio in Brooklyn, New York. Produced by Nicholas Vernhes and Bradford Cox and recorded in the dead of night. Monomania finds the group recalling its scrappy punk aesthetic; a perfect nocturnal garage rock album full of the layered and hazy vintage guitar sounds that define them. Fitz and the Tantrums - More Than Just A Dream (Elektra) .................................................. The Los Angeles-based sextet have ramped up the timeless songcraft and soul sonic force that made them a worldwide sensation to fashion a kaleidoscopic milestone that delivers on the promise of their 2010 breakthrough. Songs like the impossibly catchy first single, "Out Of My League" are positively brazen with verve and vivacity, demonstrating all the drama and passion of the band's famed live shows. From the charged back-and-forth between co-lead vocalists Fitz and Noelle Scaggs to the incontrovertible power of The Tantrums in full flight, this is the sound of a great band taking it right to the edge. Patty Griffin - American Kid (New West) .................................................. New West Records is proud to present Patty Griffin's 2013 album, American Kid. The album, co-produced by Griffin and Craig Ross, is her seventh and first for New West. It is her first album of mainly new material since the acclaimed Children Running Through in 2007. In between then and now, she made the Grammy Award-winning Downtown Church in 2010 and became a member of Band of Joy alongside Robert Plant. Talib Kweli - Prisoner of Conscious (Universal) .................................................. Prisoner of Conscious (P.O.C.) features Miguel, Kendrick Lamar, Curren$y, Busta Rhymes, Nelly, Melanie Fiona, Marsha Ambrosius, Seu Jorge and more. The album includes production by J Cole, RZA, Harry Fraud, Symbolic One (Kanye West), Sean C and LV (Jay-Z). Natalie Maines - Mother (Columbia) .................................................. Mother is the solo debut from Natalie Maines, the always provocative, multi-platinum, Grammy-Award winning singer of the Dixie Chicks. On Mother, people will hear a new direction from the singer. Heavily influenced by the more rock-based, edgy and intense sound of title track, and Pink Floyd cover, "Mother," Maines teamed up with friend and Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and guitar wizard Ben Harper, who co-produced the record with Maines. The album was recorded in Harper's studio. The Melvins - Everybody Loves Sausages (Ipecac) .................................................. An album of covers of songs the band says have had a big influence on them. The tracks covered range from glam rock (Queen's 'Best Friend') to Mod Rock (The Jam's 'Art School'), with plenty of Hard Rock and even Divine's "Female Trouble" thrown in for good measure. It also features several guest musicians like Mudhoney's Mark Arm and Neurosis' Scott Kelly, as well as some tracks recorded by the Melvins Lite lineup of Buzz Osborne, Dale Crover, and Trevor Dunn. Savages - Silence Yourself (Matador) .................................................. The highly anticipated debut from London s Savages, an all-female four-piece who play music with scything energy and brutal power. Recorded with Rodaidh McDonald (The XX), the album is an 11-track, 38-minute masterpiece. Limned in black and white but containing a swell of different emotions within its self-imposed strictures, the songs cover topics from masochism ("Hit Me"), urban dread ("City's Full"), materialism, possessiveness and the experience of being a woman ("Husbands," "I Am Here"). Every one is delivered with fierce conviction and concision. She & Him - Volume 3 (Merge) .................................................. With fourteen songs, 11 Deschanel originals and 3 covers, Volume 3 is an effortlessly effervescent, bleached-in-the-sun pop record. The album features some of the most dynamic, complex songs Deschanel has ever written, allowing for tempo shifts, disco grooves, string arrangements on multiple tracks, and horn flourishes that perfectly suit the She & Him sound. Produced by M. Ward and recorded in LA, Portland, and New York City, Volume 3 features guest contributions from NRBQ's Joey Spampinato, Mike Watt, Tilly and the Wall, Pierre de Reeder from Rilo Kiley, and Tom Hagerman from Devotchka. Still Corners - Strange Pleasures (Sub Pop) .................................................. Strange Pleasures is the second album by London's Still Corners. Where its predecessor, 2010's Creatures of an Hour, also on Sub Pop, soared on sugared layers of shoegazing-infused retro-futurism, Strange Pleasures proffers a leaner, more acute extrapolation of '80s-suffused song and studio craft, navigating a sinuous trajectory between velveteen noir-pop and the glacial, mellifluous territory mapped by Modern English, The Cure and The Passions. Presaged by the soaring "Fireflies" single, Strange Pleasures brings the Still Corners story up to date. We Are Loud Whispers - Suchness (Hardly Art) .................................................. We Are Loud Whispers is Sonya Westcott (Arthur & Yu) and Ayumu Haitani (4 Bonjour's Parties). Seattle-ite Westcott met Haitani who lives in Saitama on the island of Honshu when Arthur & Yu toured Japan in 2007. The two became WALW over a period of time. Haitani would write and record instrumentals, upload them, and send to Westcott. As she listened thousands of miles away, she'd pen lyrics to his orchestration, meditations on feeling alone even when partnered. The results are mellow and dreamy like a Japanese version of the Postal Service, so much so, Jimmy Tamborella sings on one of the tracks.
