Thanks to everyone who came out to both the Source Family documentary and the Alan Licht instore performance last week. We managed to pack IU Cinema and the movie delivered in full-on freakyness. No real news this week, but you will notice our section of 45s and 7"s is getting a massive overhaul. Look for much more in that area, pronto! New Arrivals for May 28th .................................................. Cocorosie - Tales of a Grasswidow (Transistor) .................................................. The fifth album from the duo comprised of sisters Sierra and Bianca Casady. Tales Of A GrassWidow is their first album since 2010's Grey Oceans. This album marks their first self-released title after having previously been on Sub Pop and Touch & Go Records. Enriched by a whole host of guest performances, it's a brave record, synthesizing electronic and organic sound to convey a futuristic, back-to-nature feeling. LP delayed. Dio - Finding the Sacred Heart: Live in Philly (Eagle Rock) .................................................. Finding The Sacred Heart was filmed at The Spectrum in Philadelphia on June 17, 1986. Now for the first time the full concert is being released in the original running order, restored from the original 16mm film and with remastered sound. It's an extraordinary live show with a giant animatronic dragon towering over the stage and spectacular lasers and pyrotechnics. Ronnie James Dio is in fine voice as ever and the band deliver a blistering live performance featuring tracks from their first 3 albums alongside Black Sabbath and Rainbow classics. This will be a must-have release for any Dio fan! Dirty Beaches - Drifters/Love Is The Devil (Zoo) .................................................. Dirty Beaches started off as a one-man band in 2005 in Montreal. A trans-Pacific nomad and genre-hopping sound-smith, he has released music ranging from drone instrumentals to film scores, and possesses a fascination for dissecting popular American music like blues, rockabilly, soul, R&B and hip hop, often rendering it to a point where it is no longer recognizable. His latest release is a sprawling double-album that chronicles the musician's life on the road over the past 2 years- through the labyrinths of Berlin, Belgrade, Paris, and many other cities; through heartbreak, rebirth and masochistic, existential self-reflection. John Fogerty - Wrote a Song For Everyone (Vanguard) .................................................. John Fogerty is one of the most respected songwriters in the history of Rock and Roll. On his new album, Fogerty draws from his classic songbook of hits and collaborating with some of the biggest superstars in popular music. Alongside these stellar collaborations, Fogerty has also penned 3 brand new songs for the album. 14 songs, 16 special guests, one songwriter, and one amazing album. Guest include Foo Fighters, My Morning Jacket, Dawes, Bob Seger, Allen Toussaint and Rebirth Brass Band, Tom Morello, Miranda Lambert, Alan Jackson and more. Laura Marling - Once I Was an Eagle (Ribbon) .................................................. Laura Marling's new album, the follow up to 2011's stand out 'A Creature I Don't Know', is a hugely ambitious album reflecting the poise and confidence of a songwriter far beyond her years (23). Recorded in the English countryside with longtime collaborator and producer Ethan Johns, the album's loose narrative traverses heartbreak, vulnerability, resurgence, confidence, and lastly contemplation. It steps farther outside the conventions of Laura's previous albums, an opportunity to fully explore her songwriting process while abandoning expectations. Paul McCartney & Wings - Wings Over America [deluxe] (Hear) .................................................. Wings Over America is the monumental live album, originally released in December of '76. Recorded throughout the band's US tour dates earlier that spring, the album reached #1 in the US in early 1977. Containing almost two full hours of music, Wings Over America offers a stunning rendition of Maybe I'm Amazed, plus Wings classics such as Live and Let Die, My Love, & Let Em In. McCartney also included some Beatles classics into the set list, including Yesterday, The Long and Winding Road and more for the first time since the Beatles had broken up 6 years earlier. Mount Kimbie - Cold Spring Fault Less Youth (Warp) .................................................. Dominic Maker and his partner in Mount Kimbie, Kai Campos, have played a central role in forging a new form for electronic music. Their influence stretches far beyond the corner of the dance music underground that birthed them. They have repeatedly confounded expectations, transforming themselves from bedroom-studio producers to creators of one of the most fully realised electronic album-length statements of recent years and refining their live show to incorporate live drums, bass, guitar and vocals. With their second album finally completed, the perception of Mount Kimbie looks set to expand again. LP delayed until next month. MX-80 Sound - Hard Attack LP (Superior Viaduct) .................................................. MX-80 Sound is one of the real oddities in American music. Their debut album found little-to-no audience in the States upon its release in 1977, yet remains a key document of the mid-70s proto-punk zeitgeist. Hailing from Bloomington, MX-80 was led by guitarist Bruce Anderson and defies simple classification with relentless riffs, dual drummers and vocalist Rich Stim's absurdist prose and dizzying sax. Assimilating the avant-rock of Captain Beefheart and conjuring the ghosts of Albert Ayler, MX-80 Sound evokes what free jazz would sound like if born in Bloomington. Oblivians - Desperation (In the Red) .................................................. The long-awaited new album from Greg, Jack and Eric! Desperation picks up right where the band left off, delivering 14 scorching tracks of soulful punk-garage-blues trash rock informed in equal parts by 50s rock n roll, 60s garage rock, Memphis soul, Delta blues and Killed By Death-style punk. There's even a Cajun Zydeco cover here! The Pastels - Slow Summits (Domino) .................................................. Glaswegian outfit, The Pastels, return with their first album in over 15 years, Slow Summits. The album was recorded with John McEntire [Tortoise, The Sea And Cake] in their hometown of Glasgow and features contributions from members of Teenage Fanclub, To Rococo Rot & Tenniscoats; whom the last collaborated with on Two Sunsets. The Pastels are back, thankfully! Tricky - False Idols (K7) .................................................. One of the finest, most individual MCs to emerge from the UK, Tricky's ever unpredictable path has just taken a new turn with an album released on the new False Idols imprint. Typically introspective, the rapper recently reveals that False Idols is an attempt to re-focus. Yellowbirds - Songs from the Vanished Frontier (Royal Potato) .................................................. Songs from the Vanished Frontier, the second album from New York's Yellowbirds, includes love songs and breakup songs, happy numbers and sad numbers, tunes about not believing in the truth and, alternately, tunes about delivering it. There's bracing rock 'n' roll and bubbling folk, drifting jangle and swiveling R&B. But the thread that unites these nine instantly affecting songs is their search to find the signal amid the noise that is, to understand the world and its whirlwind and to deliver just a little bit of clarity every three or four minutes. VA - Arts & Crafts: X (Arts & Crafts) .................................................. New compilation released to coincide with the label's 10th Anniversary. Features new collaborations from acts on the label's roster including new compositions and "fresh interpretations." Includes music from Broken Social Scene, Feist, Ra Ra Riot, Stars, Amy Millan, Apostle of Hustle, Snowblink, Chilly Gonzales, Dan Mangan, the Darcys, Gold & Youth, Jason Collett, the Hidden Cameras, Hayden, Timber Timbre, Still Life Still, Trust, Years, Zeus, and Zulu Winter.
