Are you ready for our next free instore performance? Calvin Johnson, founder of K Records, member of Beat Happening, Halo Benders, Dub Narcotic, Hive Dwellers and many more- will be serenading us with an intimate acoustic performance at Landlocked Music on Wednesday, September 11th. This will be his only performance in Bloomington on this tour. More details TBA but for sure save the date for this one! New Arrivals for August 6th .................................................. Blondes - Swisher (RVNG) Swisher is a bold expansion of Blondes' recorded repertoire, evolved from the past couple years of reinventing their sound for intense club atmospheres. A dark, meticulous production with a distinct percussive focus, Blondes second album exhibitsthe duo's infatuation with techno in immersive sound environments. Civil Wars - s/t (Columbia) The Civil Wars' highly anticipated sophomore self-titled album is the follow up to the three-time Grammy Award-winning duo's acclaimed debut, Barton Hollow. The Civil Wars was recorded in Nashville between August 2012 and January 2013. Charlie Peacock was once again at the helm as producer for the album. Additionally, Rick Rubin produced the duo's performance for the track "I Had Me a Girl" in August of 2011. Peacock later completed the track by producing the instrumentation and mix. The album was recorded amidst a grueling touring schedule, exhausting workload and a growing disconnect from their families. Personal statements from band-members Joy Williams and John Paul White can be viewed at the band's offical website. Dumb Numbers - s/t (Joyful Noise) A band featuring a pretty unbelievable cast of characters. Dumb Numbers is Australian songwriter Adam Harding with Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion), Dale Crover (Melvins), Murph (Dinosaur Jr.), Bobb Bruno (Best Coast), CR Matheny (Emperor X). The band's debut self-titled LP walks a line between the aggressive and the emotional. Not heavy enough for metal, and not tame enough for indie rock, the music of Dumb Numbers is at once feedback-drenched and catchy, touching on everything from doom-metal to Kim Deal covers. Explosions In the Sky & David Wingo - Prince Avalanche OST (Temporary Residence) Explosions In The Sky excel at making even the most mundane moments in everyday life seem downright revelatory. David Wingo (Ola Podrida) and David Gordon Green have made careers out of pulling off similar feats in film. It was only a matter of time before these guys all collaborated, and Prince Avalanche delivers on the inspired expectations of such a union. Exclusive retail version on white vinyl! Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion - Wassaic Way (Route 8) New album from singer/songwriters Sarah Lee Guthrie (daughter of Arlo and granddaughter of Woody) and her husband Johnny Irion. Produced by Jeff Tweedy and Patrick Sansone of Wilco, the album's 11 original songs were recorded at that band's famed Chicago studio, The Loft and feature the duo's most ambitious songwriting, far-reaching arrangements and electrifying performances to date. Wassaic Way marks the latest entry in the ongoing creative relationship between the Guthrie family and Wilco. Sarah & Johnny are playing at The Bishop on October 9th. Hoi Polloi - s/t (LP reissue) (Family Vineyard) The first authorized LP reissue of Richmond, IN's fabled Hoi' Polloi. The band's lone 1972 self-titled album, recorded over spring break at Earlham College by means of "bouncing" between two stereo tape decks, is a fantastic collection of country twangers, breathtaking singer-songwriter material, and bizarre tape cut-ups. With 5 songwriters in the band, what could have felt like another grab-bag student compilation instead feels like lost tapes of Emitt Rhodes hanging with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young while Faust producer Uwe Nettlebeck makes a guest appearance in the control room. Includes additional bonus material as digital. Montibus Communitas - Hacia Aquellos Bosques de Inmen (Trouble in Mind) Nestled in the valleys between the Chillon, Rimac and Lurin rivers, lies the city of Lima, Peru where musical spiritual collective Montibus Communitas have quietly sculpted sonic devotionals to the holiness of Mother Nature since 2010. The four pieces were tracked live in the studio on November 4th, 2011 & written as they were interpreted - we hesitate to qualify them as improvisations, as the movements feel more like messages sent from another place, given life through the fevered hands of Montibus Communitas. RIYL: Popul Vuh, Amon Duul, Kalacra, Follakzoid, Source Family, Trees Community Polyphonic Spree - Yes, Its True (Kirtland) The Polyphonic Spree is releasing their brand new album August 6, 2013. It contains 11 songs ranging in scope from the upbeat album opener "You Don't Know Me" to the powerful closer "Battlefield." Musically and lyrically, "Yes, It's True" is Tim's strongest work yet. "bootleg" LP version also available! Walking Papers - s/t (Loud & Proud) Walking Papers is a bluesy post-grunge rock band formed by Jeff Angell and Barrett Martin, two long-serving veterans of the Seattle music scene. Barrett, a drummer and multi-instrumentalist, played for grunge pioneers Skin Yard and Screaming Trees, as well as the super groups Mad Season and Tuatara. This debut album features a stellar cast of musicians who have each added their unique musical voice to the album: The rumbling bass lines of Duff McKagan (Guns N' Roses), the blistering guitar work of Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), the elegant keyboard stylings of Benjamin Anderson, and soulful horn arrangements. The album was recorded by Catherine Ferrante at Avast Studios in Seattle, and mixed by Jack Endino at Soundhouse in Seattle.
