Nothing but the hits today: New Arrivals for September 24th .................................................. Au Revoir Simone - Move In Spectrums (Instant) Produced by Violens' Jorge Elbrecht, Move In Spectrums is the follow up to 2009's critically acclaimed sophomore album. Following the self-release of their two well-loved albums, Au Revoir Simone simply felt they needed a break. They had toured all over the world, been involved in exciting collaborations with the likes of French band Air and Johnny Marr, and became the favorite band of legendary director David Lynch in the process. Chvrches - The Bones of What You Believe (Glassnote) 2013 debut studio album from the Scottish Electropop band from Glasgow. The group consists of Lauren Mayberry (main vocals, occasionally synthesizers), Iain Cook (synthesizers, vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers, vocals). Hype Machine's Most Blogged artist. Named one of SPIN's Best New Artist. Featured as Pitchfork's "Rising" Artist. Also featured in: FADER, Fuse, NPR, Paste Magazine, Billboard & more. Deer Tick - Negativity (Partisan) Deer Tick have long walked a tightwire between total despair and fractured resiliance, but Negativity represents a heroic leap forward on virtually all fronts for the Providence, Rhose Island-based band. Recorded with legendary producer/musician Steve Berlin (The Blasters, Los Lobos), the album Deer Tick's fifth full-length studio release is the band's most personal work thus far as well as the band's most undeniable and universal, their famously freewheeling musical approach refined here into a gloriously cohesive whole. Dirtbombs - Ooey Gooey Chewy Ka-blooey! (In the Red) For about a decade now, Mick Collins has threatened that the band's next release would be their 'Bubblegum album.' Well, here it is! Mick wrote 10 new tracks which pay homage to the sound and style originally popularized in the late 60s by producers like Kasenetz-Katz and Don Kirshner. While the usual Dirtbombs' double-drums, fuzzy guitars and soulful swagger are present, Ooey Gooey is sugary, sunshiny pop rock. It's all sing-along choruses, childlike themes and a contrived innocence - not the kind of record one would've predicted from a guy who once fronted The Gories. Ha Ha Tonka - Lessons (Bloodshot) As the title, implies the inspiration behind Lessons stems from life's biggest ones. The notion of life's immediacy is kept firmly at the forefront of Lessons. The band toys with the theme of living beyond a normal lifetime- the concept of reliving and rewriting our lives, and the lessons we can all learn along the way. Sonically, Lessons marks a departure from Ha Ha Tonka's more stripped down style to one that is filled with lush instrumentation. Icona Pop - This is... (Big Beat) This Is... Icona Pop, the highly anticipated debut album from the Swedish pop sensations, features the duo's hit single "I Love It" featuring Charli XCX, along with many tracks destined to dictate your playlists upon first listen. Kings of Leon - Mechanical Bull (RCA) RCA Records announces the September 24 release of the new Kings of Leon record, Mechanical Bull. Angelo Petraglia produced the album, which was recorded at the band s studio in Nashville, TN. Deluxe CD available with bonus tracks and fancy artwork. Mazzy Star - Seasons of Your Day (Rhymes of an Hour) Co-written by Hope Sandoval and David Roback, Seasons Of Your Day was recorded in California and Norway. The album features performances by all the original members of Mazzy Star along with special guests including Colm O'Closoig (My Bloody Valentine) and a special appearance by the late, legendary Bert Jansch in a guitar duet of chilling intensity with David Roback on the song "Spoon." Metallica - Through the Never (Rhino) Award-winning filmmaker Nimrod Antal creates a groundbreaking 3-D motion picture event, Metallica Through the Never. The music-driven feature film combines a bold narrative and spectacular live-performance footage of one of the most popular and influential rock bands in history to produce a bracing, raw and visceral cinematic experience. Emerging young star Dane DeHaan portrays Trip, a young roadie sent on an urgent mission during Metallica's roaring live set in front of a sold-out arena audience. Theo Parrish - Black Jazz Signature (Snow Dog) Arguably one of the most important underground dance music DJs, Theo lends his hands to selecting and mixing a set of jazz and funk records originally released on the Black Jazz label 1971-76. Theo gives special attention to fellow Chicago musicians The Awakening, one of the best funk/fusion groups that the Black Jazz label released, and whose only output was on that label. The set itself is a masterful "2 turntables all vinyl" execution, a format that Theo is dedicated to for the true aural experience. Other artists include: Doug Carn, Gene Russell, Calvin Keys, Rudolph Johnson, and Walter Bishop Jr. The Pirate Flags - Songs of the Seas (self) A band of rapscallion musicians with no respect for art or tradition, hailing from Bloomington, Indiana. The Pirate Flags take traditional songs of the seas and plug them into an electric blender for a dark and stormy new sound - freshly squeezed with a slice of lime. Frankie Rose - Herein Wild (Fat Possum) Frankie Rose's second album of slick new wave pop, Herein Wild, is an improvement on 2012's Interstellar, her debut solo outing. This album includes thick string accompaniment and firing bass that is reminiscent of The Cure's late '80s output. It is a dark album with an upbeat overtone - perfect for the beginning of Autumn. There's nothing hidden on the album. The production is top notch and the songs are excellently arranged. It also includes an interesting take on the lesser known Damned song, "Street of Dreams." Touche Amore - Is Survived By (Deathwish) Is Survived By shows Touche Amore embracing a maturation of their trademark melancholy. The sounds are welcomingly familiar; inspired percussion amid a sea of imaginative guitars and impassioned vocals. However, the underlying unrest is more complex and touching than any previous Touche Amore release before it. The Waitresses - Just Desserts: Complete Waitresses (Omnivore) The Waitresses were no new wave flash in the pan. The meal begins with their debut, Wasn't Tomorrow Wonderful?, which features the hits I Know What Boys Like and No Guilt. Next, I Could Rule The World If I Could Only Get The Parts, which contains the theme to TV's Square Pegs (which starred a young Sarah Jessica Parker), as well as the holiday staple, Christmas Wrapping.
