New Arrivals for November 5th .................................................. Bright Eyes - Christmas Album (Saddle Creek) Originally released in 2002 as a Saddle Creek Online Store exclusive with all proceeds benefiting the Nebraska AIDS Project, Bright Eyes' A Christmas Album is now available via widespread commercial release. Available on CD and 180g LP, check out the album The New York Times called "the saddest, sweetest holiday recording you hear all season." Cut Copy - Free Your Mind (Universal) Fourth album from the Australian Electronic band. Cut Copy were formed in 2001 by Dan Whitford on vocals, keyboard and guitar. Other members are Tim Hoey on guitar and sampler, Ben Browning on bass guitar and Mitchell Scott on drums. They achieved breakthrough success with their second album, In Ghost Colours, which peaked at number-one on the ARIA Albums Chart in 2008. Features 'Free Your Mind' and 'We Are Explorers'. Bryce Dessner [The National] + Kronos Quartet - Aheym (Anti) Aheym is an astonishing collaboration between National guitarist Bryce Dessner and journeyman new music string quartet the Kronos Quartet. Dessner has a history of composition that predates his membership in the National, and represents a new generation who are blurring the lines between rock and contemporary classical music. Bryce's music will delight longtime followers of Kronos' work with Steve Reich, Philip Glass and others, and will challenge and surprise the National's many fans. At the close of day, Aheym addresses many of the same aches and dreams as the music of the National, and it is the breaking down of these artificial barriers of genre and performance that Bryce Dessner has made a life's work. Ducktails - Wish Hotel LP (Domino) Wish Hotel is the 5 track EP from Matt Mondanile's (Real Estate), Ducktails project. The EP is the follow up to the acclaimed album The Flower Lane. Every song on the EP was recorded entirely by himself in his parents house in Ridgewood, NJ and mixed with Al Carlson at Gary's Electric. Howe Gelb - The Coincidentalist (New West) The Arizona desert has been a predominant theme and source of inspiration for Howe Gelb, indie rock pioneer & founder of the band Giant Sand. Since 1985, Gelb, based in Tucson, AZ has brought the spirit of the southwest and high art to his DIY recordings. Gelb's newest recording, The Coincidentalist, is his first album for his new label, New West Records. Recorded with M. Ward & Steve Shelley (Sonic Youth), Gelb brings together a set of songs that seem linked, like a novel but effortless stand on their own. The record also features guest contributions from Bonnie Prince Billy & KT Tunstall. The Melodic - Effra Parade (Anti) The young band from Brixton, South London offer a vibrant new brand of afro-folk-pop that, while inspired by 60s folk, incorporates an assortment of influences from around the world. Its members utilize instruments such as the Charango, Melodica and Kora to create a music that joyously defies categorization and exhibits a clear reverence for past masters from Paul Simon to Bert Jansch, while mixing in sounds from Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa to create a music entirely their own. RIYL Beirut, The Decemberists. MIA - Matangi (Interscope) The eagerly-awaited fourth album from the British R&B vocalist and rapper. The album, which is the follow-up to her 2010 album Maya, features collaborations and production from The Weeknd, Switch, Hit-Boy, Danja, The Partysquad, Surkin and others. Features 'Bad Girls', 'Bring The Noize', 'Come Walk With Me' and 'Y.A.L.A.' - Vinyl later this month. Midlake - Antiphon (ATO) Midlake return with their new studio album "Antiphon". An antiphon is a call-and-response style of singing, from Gregorian chants to sea shanties. In the case of Denton, Texas' favorite sons Midlake, it's the perfect title for a bold response to a new phase in the band's illustrious career, with a re-jigged line-up and a newly honed sound as rich and symphonic as it is dynamic and kaleidoscopic. VA - Divided and United (ATO) For the 150 year anniversary of the Civil War - ATO will be releasing an ambitious 32-track collection that explores the deep musical legacy of The Civil War. ATO Records and music supervisor Randall Poster ('Moonrise Kingdom,' 'Boardwalk Empire,' 'Rave On Buddy Holly') have joined forces to release 'Divided & United,' a two-disc set of Civil War songs brought to life through fresh interpretations by the contributors who span genres and generations: Loretta Lynn, Jamey Johnson, Vince Gill, Ralph Stanley, Taj Mahal, Lee Ann Womack, Shovels & Rope, John Doe, T Bone Burnett and others!
