Tasty! New Arrivals for November 26th .................................................. Billie Joe Armstrong & Norah Jones - Foreverly (Reprise) Collaboration between Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong and Grammy winning Pop songstress Norah Jones. Foreverly is an unforgettable collection inspired by "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us", an album of traditional Americana songs reinterpreted, recorded and released by The Everly Brothers in 1958. The album captures the beauty of the Everly's stunning close harmonies to create a moving and powerful testament to these traditional ballads. Free poster with purchase! Joseph Arthur - Ballad of Boogie Christ Ch. 2 (Lonely Astronaut) The 12 songs on Act 2 extend the themes and vivid narratives introduced by Act 1 - which was released in June of 2013. Says Arthur of part 2, "I feel like it definitely tells a story. It sounds ridiculous to quote your mom, but she equated this album to the end of a novel. She's a tough critic, so I took her opinion as a really good sign." Jake Bugg - Shangri La (Island) The album shares its title with the Malibu studio where it was made, once the 70s haven of Dylan and The Band, now the creative hub of legendary producer Rick Rubin, the recording titan whose jaw dropping CV spans from Def Jam and Johnny Cash to Adele and Kanye West. Rubin's assembled wrecking crew of Shangri La session regulars includes guitarist Matt Sweeney, bassist Jason Lader, and drummers Chad Smith and Pete Thomas. Yet for all its stellar cast and production kudos, the real star is Bugg himself. Asked to compare Shangri La with its predecessor, Bugg concludes: 'My first album felt like a list of songs, whereas this one feels like a whole entity with something to say. Or if my first album was the color of grey reality, this one's the color of the sun'. Loren Connors - Christmas Day 7" (Flannelgraph) It is their honor to be releasing a limited edition of 7" record featuring the song that Loren Connors contributed to last year's instrumental holiday benefit compilation on Flannelgraph. Features original cover artwork by Loren himself. Limited to 500 hand-numbered copies. B-side features the raw transfer of Christmas Day, originally recorded on VHS tape. As with this year's benefit compilation, all profits will go towards purchasing new mattresses for residents of Amethyst House, an addiction recovery center in Bloomington. Destroyer - Five Spanish Songs (Merge) Dan Bejar writes: It was 2013. The English language seemed spent, despicable, not easily singable. It felt over for English; good for business transactions, but that's about it. The only other language I know is Spanish, and the only Spanish songs I really know are those of Sr. Chinarro, led by Antonio Luque. I've been a decades-long fan of how he conducted his affairs, his strange words, his melodies that have always felt so natural (this is important), his bitter songs about painting the light. Something about them, I knew I could do it... Fuzz - Live in San Francisco LP (Castle Face) "Behold-when we introduced this live series, we spoke of lightning in a jar-this here's a thunderstorm. Ty Segall's new stoner thrashers Fuzz not only totally murdered this set at San Francisco leather-daddy hangout The SF Eagle, but it was Ty's birthday and he blew out his birthday cake candles mid-song, didn't miss a beat, and that moment is forever etched into this record (we took a photo, too)." The Gories - Shaw Tapes: Live in Detroit 88 (Third Man) Recorded at a party in a Detroit storefront in 1988, this live recording of the Gories captures the band at their apex. The dual-guitar attack of Dan Kroha's smooth Fender Jaguar and Mick Collins screechy Kent Videocaster, coupled with the snare-less, cymbal-less, bass drum-less primitive drumming of Peggy O'Neill forms a perfect meld of 40's blues, 50's R&B, 60's garage and 70's punk. Dare we say it, but in terms of influence and reach, the Gories were the Velvet Underground of their day. Andy Hollinden - She's Not Close, She's the Cigar LP (RIP Topsy) R.I.P. Topsy presents Andy Hollinden’s new LP, She’s Not Close She’s The Cigar. It’s a 12-song cycle that charts a love discovered, treasured, challenged, and lost. It was recorded in Nashville with backing by Jason Wilber (guitar), Mark Galup (bass & pedal steel), and Will Medders (drums). Think Neil Young meets Hank Williams meets The Beach Boys, and you’re heading in the right direction. Pressed on blue vinyl, each record comes with an MP3 download coupon that also gives you a bonus song not found on the LP. Liverpool Echo - s/t LP (Sing Sing) A perfect pair alongside Rockin' Horse's 'Yes It Is,' the self-titled album by The Liverpool Echo makes a swaggering assertion for the enduring power and captivation of the early Mersey styles of McCartney & Lennon. The idea was simple: make a hit record in the early, authentic style of the band with the most hits of all time - The Beatles - and use said record as a springboard to capitalize on the ten-year anniversary of their birth. And do it cheaply. And in only one week. While The Liverpool Echo proved perhaps too late to ferry 'cross the Mersey and too early to dilate its pupils to Starry Eyes, the record they left behind remains the most wonderfully rocking cenotaph to the original Cavern Club 'moment'. Shearwater - Fellow Travelers (Sub Pop) Fellow Travelers finds Shearwater covering the songs of the artists they've toured with over the past decade. Shearwater leader Jonathan Meiburg invited each of the bands covered on Fellow Travelers to play on the album, provided they did not play on their own song. The result is an album that highlights the shared efforts and purposes of Shearwater and the artists with whom they perform. Fellow Travelers features Shearwater's take on songs by Sharon Van Etten, The Baptist Generals, Clinic, Coldplay, Xiu Xiu, Wye Oak and David Thomas Broughton and more. Bonus 7" w/ purchase! Soundgarden - Screaming Life / Fopp [reissue] (Sub Pop) From the depths of the Sub Pop archives comes a reissue of Soundgarden's thunderous opening salvo, Screaming Life, plus bonus tracks from the Fopp EP and Sub Pop 200 compilation. This reissue marks the first time these tracks will be available digitally, and their first appearance on vinyl since the original, late-80s pressings (notwithstanding a long-gone, late-'90s repress of Screaming Life). All tracks have been remastered by Seattle studio wizard and producer of the original Screaming Life and Sub Pop 200 sessions, Jack Endino.
