Thanks to our black friday weekend shoppers! We are as dubious as anyone when it comes to made up holidays and capitalistic shopping propaganda, but we made the best of it by offering you some compelling releases that will surely satisfy yourself, if not someone special, this holiday season. Thank you for supporting independent local stores! Buying local really does make a difference. Our next coffee cupping / listening party is scheduled for this coming Sunday December 8th. Hopscotch Roasters and Uel Zing will both be on hand to talk and pour. We will be playing the A-Sides of a variety of new releaes, on vinyl of course. Music includes: Destroyer, Llewyn Davis OST, Gories live, Mr Chop, Harsh Toke, BeeDeeGee, Vex Ruffin, Shearwater, CFCF, Jorma [Marmoset] solo album, Wolf People, Bad Religion Xmas, Peter Walker reissue. Maybe more! We will have 3 roasts of coffee available: Light - Dry-processed Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, Medium - Rainforest Alliance, SHG Honduran "El Jaguar", Dark - Rainforest Alliance Certified, organic, Bali "Krishna" Blue Moon. Tasty! New Arrivals for December 3rd .................................................. Beck - Gimme 2x12" (Fonograf) With "Gimme," Beck completes his trilogy of stand-alone songs that, when heard all together, seem tonally and musically linked. There's the wobbly and chopped electronic beats of "Defriended" and the sparkling, dreamy pop of "I Won't Be Long." And now there's "Gimme," a percussive-driven track featuring heavily-filtered, robotic-sounding vocals and plenty of sonic noises filling out the corners of the mix. Defriended and I Won't Be Long 12"s also available again! bEEdEEgEE (Gang Gang Dance) - Sum/One (4AD) Most commonly known in the music world for his work at the centre of Gang Gang Dance and their musical mastery, Sum/One is his debut record as a solo artist. Written and recorded over the course of a year in his Woodstock studio, Sum/One initially began life when Brian left NYC - his home for the past 12 years - for the clouds of Woodstock. Amidst the peace of this new environment, the audio sketches he worked on gradually evolved into a project that fuses familiar deep synth soundscapes with audacious pop moments. The nine tracks feature the vocal talents of Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Lovefoxxx (CSS), Lizzi Bougatsos (Gang Gang Dance) and Douglas Armour. Glen Hansard - Drive All Night (Anti) The Drive All Night EP is anchored by Glen Hansard's compelling studio recording of the Bruce Springsteen classic, a live highlight of his 2012 tour with Eddie Vedder. Eddie rejoins Glen here to recreate the magic of their on-stage performances, singing harmony vocals as Jake Clemons, nephew of the late great Clarence Clemons, plays saxophone. The whole track becomes a tribute to Springsteen and his musical and activist legacy. Lee Hazlewood - There's a Dream I've Been Saving [box] (LITA) This landmark box set is the ultimate artifact for Hazlewood heads new and old, containing a lavishly packaged, expansive 172-page LP sized hard cover book. But every good book deserves a soundtrack and in this case it comes in the form of a 4CD anthology of the LHI label, along with the never-before-released 1970 film Cowboy in Sweden on DVD. The CDs feature songs familiar and less so; surprising covers, doleful duets and little heard LHI gold. Also available: Deluxe Edition containing all of the above housed in a cloth-bound clamshell box with reproductions of LHI-era artifacts including press photos and a reproduction plane ticket used by Hazlewood back in 1970. The true icing on the cake is 3 DVD data discs which include just about every track ever released on LHI, along with cover and label art. Totaling 305 songs! Muse - Live from Rome (WB) On July 6th, British band Muse took to the stage at Rome's Olympic Stadium in front of a capacity audience of more than 60,000 euphoric fans. This package showcases the most extravagant set built and spectacular stage show of any Muse tour to date. The band take the audience on a mesmerizing journey using pyrotechnics, expansive digital screens, and a troop of actors to accompany their epic playlist of 20 tracks, mixed in incredible surround sound, including hits from their most recent studio album The 2nd Law, as well as classics such as "Uprising," "Madness," "Supermassive Black Hole," "Starlight," "Time Is Running Out," and "Knights of Cydonia." Mutual Benefit - Love's Crushing Diamond (Other) After self-releasing two limited cassettes and playing scores of house shows, Jordan Lee completed his debut album, a record of lush, watery, pop songs, pieced together over the past several years and inspired by the kinetic energy, goodbyes, and blurred landscapes of life on the road. The songs are heartfelt and powerful with Lee's fragile voice as the centerpiece, and the recordings are an instantly engaging blend of high and low fidelity, mixing lush studio productions, featuring keys, guitar, violin and banjo, with clattering homemade percussion and found sounds. While the album is certainly Lee's brainchild, the recordings are very much a collaborative effort featuring contributions by friends and others met along the way. Josh Tillman (Father John Misty) - History of Caves LP (Sub Pop) Josh Tillman, leader of Father John Misty and former drummer of Fleet Foxes, wrote and performed this score to Emma Garr's 2013 short film The History of Caves. This Black Friday exclusive LP is limited to 2,000 copies worldwide and is on clear vinyl. Only a few copies remain; Get it while you can! Jorma Whittaker - Jorma LP (Joyful Noise) Jorma dishes up the most accomplished work of his career: a dark & menacing soul record simply titled "Jorma". The notorious frontman of Marmoset is now accompanied by Indy threesome Heavy Hometown. Led by producer Corey Barnes, the mordant, avant-sinister persona of Jorma's previous work is here in the ascendancy, fleshed out by a diverse array of instrumentation. Fuzzed-out guitars of former incarnations remain, but they are joined here by clarinet licks, creepy organs, horns, and lonely piano riffs. It is still possible to compare his body of work to the output of other musicians- Velvet Underground, Atlas Sound, Swell Maps, Syd Barrett, Robert Pollard & Skip Spence have been cited in the past- but (as Pitchfork has noted) the "twisted amalgam of psychedelia, sexuality, and off-kilter melodicism remains undeniably unique." VA - The Holidays Don't Have To Be So Rotten Vol IV (Flannelgraph) Flannelgraph's 4th annual compilation of all new original instrumental holiday songs! 19 brand new holiday instrumentals from.... Candy Claws, Soporus, Nachtambulous, Jonathan Rado feat. Diane Coffee, Octagrape, Chad Serhal, quixod, Kurt Friedrich, Daring Ear, Mike Adams At His Honest Weight, Circuit Des Yeux, The Parade Schedule, Moor Hound, Ben Lumsdaine, Via Vegrandis, Liquor Store Dad, Vapor Lanes, Jon Autry, Frank Schweikhardt. This year all proceeds will go towards purchasing mattresses for residents of Amethyst House, an addiction recovery center in Bloomington. VA - Purple Snow: Forecasting the Minneapolis Sound (Numero Group) In the late 70s, a peculiar sound began bubbling up from the Twin Cities. Buried beneath 50 solid inches of annual snow, Minneapolis made a Sound quite different than what the pop world foresaw. It issued forth as a slick, black, technologically advanced fusion, poised to storm the charts. Never known for sizable African-American populations, Minneapolis and St. Paul in fact harbored a tight-knit community of musicians working feverishly through the late 70s and early 80s toward a radical manipulation of American dance music, coating futuristic funk with the glamorous sheen of guitar rock. Synthetic ebony and ivory met electricity, with sexed-up results sent shockingly across the pop heavens like violet lightning. Radiating from the epicenter of Minneapolis' most legendary figure, Prince Rogers Nelson, Purple Snow features Andre Cymone (bass player for the Revolution) unreleased tracks by Alexander O'Neal, band members that eventually become The Time, plus early tracks by Jimmy Jam Harris and even featuring Prince himself.
