New instore announcement: Just in time for the holidays... Lily & Madeleine will be playing live at Landlocked on Sunday, December 22nd at 3PM! These Indianapolis sisters weave gorgeous vocal harmonies that are beginning to catch the attention of people everywhere. NY Times, Elle, Vogue, eMusic, Paste and many more are talking. Their debut album is an Indiana affair, released by Indy's Asthmatic Kitty, as well as locally produced by Paul Mahern (Zero Boys, *ask), designed by David Woodruff, and featuring songwriting from Kenny Childers (Gentleman Caller). A great event to close out our year and serenade you while you finish your holiday shopping. See you here! Thanks to Hopscotch Roasters and Uel Zing Coffee for making magic happen this past Sunday. Look for our next coffee pouring/event in late Jan or early Feb! Records and coffee, two of our favorite things. Got a special order for the holidays? Please be sure to place it ASAP to ensure that we get it in before Santa needs it on his sleigh! Orders often take longer than we think, especially with shipping delays over the holiday times. New Arrivals for December 10th .................................................. Childish Gambino - Because The Internet (Glassnote) Sophomore full-length album from writer, actor, standup comedian and rapper Donald Glover AKA Childish Gambino. The recording process for the album began in 2012 and continued until October 2013. Because the Internet features guest appearances from Chance The Rapper, Jhene Aiko and Azealia Banks, with production handled by Gambino himself, Christian Rich, Thundercat and Ludwig Goransson among others. Jellyfish - Radio Jellyfish: Live Radio Broadcasts (Omnivore) Radio Jellyfish contains 10 tracks culled from two international radio stops in 1993; one in Holland, the other in Australia. The foursome plays tracks from both LPs, and naturally some covers. Even taken out of the studio, and away from the stage, the sound is unmistakably Jellyfish. It's been well documented that the four members of the band could replicate the enormous sound of their albums through releases like Live At Bogart's and a bevy of B -sides. But, apart from one track first released on the out-of-print Fan Club boxed set (and included here), acoustic Jellyfish - without a net - has not been explored. That's nine previously unissued performances; tracks unheard since their international broadcast two decades ago. Mount Eerie - Pre-Human Ideas LP (PW Elverum) These are strange computer recordings of pre-existing Mount Eerie songs, mostly from Clear Moon and Ocean Roar (2012), made post-album-release as exploratory and instructional demos to teach the songs to various touring bands. What's new here are the added layers of severely pitch shifted and autotuned voices singing newly written lyrics, almost like new songs layered over the old ones, expanding and clarifying the ideas. These songs keep growing, and here they are given new life in cascading walls of MIDI instruments with a voice digitally posing as a hoarse woman or a rough older man. These are strange tones. An alien wonder enters the room. Note: the first and last tracks are organ compositions previously buried within other songs, totally analog, totally rich, made audible here as complete and penetrable pieces of music. 7 Days of Funk [Snoop Dogg + Dam Funk] - (Stones Throw) The King of Modern Funk meets the smoked-out scion of G-Funk on the 7 Days of Funk album, where Snoop performs under the name Snoopzilla, the homage to the legendary funk master, Bootsy Collins, who often went by the moniker Bootzilla. After an initial chance meeting two years ago, Dam Funk and Snoop began to collaborate when Snoop invited Dam to perform with him at a 2011 SXSW show - the musical connection was inherent. "We're the babies of the Mothership," says Snoop. "I've had Funk influences in my music my whole career. Dam-Funk is cold. He's keeping the Funk alive and I knew I had to get down with him." Neil Young - Live at the Cellar Door (Reprise) The latest in Young's ongoing Archives Performance Series, and it collects recordings made during the Canadian singer/songwriter's intimate six-show solo stand at The Cellar Door, a venue in Washington D.C., between November 30th and December 2nd, 1970. Since the gigs were only a few months after his timeless third solo album, After The Gold Rush, was released and five of the thirteen tracks here are from that very record, including 'Only Love Can Break Your Heart' and 'Don't Let It Bring You Down'. Also featured, is 'Cinnamon Girl' performed on piano rather than guitar, a handful of Buffalo Springfield songs, including 'Expecting To Fly' and 'Old Man' which wasn't released until two years later on 1972's Harvest album. VA - Angola Soundtrack 2: Hypnosis, Distortions & Other Sonic Innovations 1969-78 (Analog Africa) Since discovering the music of Angola 15 years ago, styles such Kazucuta, Rebita, and Semba have become an addiction for Samy Ben Redjeb, the compiler, who proclaimed a serious warning in the first edition liner notes: "Listening to these tracks may cause addiction and provoke heavy rotation!" Featuring 44 pages acquired in coordination with the National Library of Luanda and the art magazine Note E Dia, Analog Africa head honcho Samy Ben Redjeb has managed to collect newspaper clips, extremely rare pictures of the bands onstage and printed interviews from the '70s. The stunning pages of passionate photography and artistic design also include interviews with many of the original artists and their families, biographies of the three labels that made it all possible, and of Luis Montes, who was the pulse of the live music scene in Luanda. VA - Purple Snow Coffee + mixtape (Numero Group) Chicago's Dark Matter Coffee is ready to celebrate the mighty funk history of the Middlewestern town of Minneapolis with its 'Purple Snow' blend, created to coincide with the inimitable Numero Group's "Purple Snow" compilation (released last week) which documents the innovative funk coming out of the coldest of states in the late 70s and 80s. "Like the majestic waters of Lake Minnetonka, this jive coffee has a taste & style all its own," says Dark Matter of its new blend. Comes with an exclusive purple mixtape which is rumoured to be some tracks that didn't make it to the box! Limited to 150 copies total.
