Just in time for the holidays... Lily & Madeleine will be playing live at Landlocked on Sunday, December 22nd at 3PM! These Indianapolis sisters weave gorgeous vocal harmonies that are beginning to catch the attention of people everywhere. NY Times, Elle, Vogue, eMusic, Paste and many more are talking. Their debut album is an Indiana affair, released by Indy's Asthmatic Kitty, as well as locally produced by Paul Mahern (Zero Boys, *ask), designed by David Woodruff, and featuring songwriting from Kenny Childers (Gentleman Caller). A great event to close out our year and serenade you while you finish your holiday shopping. See you here! Still need some gift ideas? Prizes, treats, good times. Stay tuned. New Arrivals for December 17th .................................................. Burial - Rival Dealer EP (Hyperdub) The voices in Burial's songs always seem to be gasping from the edges of pure longing. Lengthy and murky as they are, these movements usually pass as something more sterile than love songs: the scrounged-up debris of dance music collaged into arty, cerebral post-dub. On Rival Dealer, Burial crashes past the angst that's flooded his music to date. The title track wafts a perforated female vocal through a bristly knot of drums and static. A buzz saw bass drones over his trademark click-and-clatter. "Come Down To Us" dances a milky synth arpeggio around a sitar riff while voices multiply, fighting to be heard. Burial's still dealing in shadow and echo here, but for the first time he's harnessing them for what sounds a lot like joy. "You don't have to be alone," sings one of Burial's anonymous proxies on Rival Dealer's third and final track. Coming from an artist who has rendered loneliness so expertly in the past, it's a transformative, hopeful gesture. (Consequence of Sound) Milosh [Rhye] - Jetlag (Deadly) Milosh has gained further notoriety as the elusive vocalist behind the 2013 release of Woman, via side project Rhye. The album is a collaboration between Milosh and his wife Alexa Nikolas, recording unexpected intimate moments of laughter and love together; found sounds of everything from their travels around the world together to the most private spaces in their home. Previously living in Berlin and Thailand, Jetlag chronicles the time when the couple came together and eventually settled in LA. The refined sound plays as the ultimate romantic and joyful soundtrack, with equal parts homage to the minimal electronic artists like Autechre and Boards of Canada that inspired Milosh and classical and jazz elements from his formal training on cello. The Sacred Mushroom - s/t LP (Shake It) Our friends at Shake It in Cinci are proud to reissue the sole release from The Sacred Mushroom on glorious black polyvinyl chloride. The record, over time, has achieved legendary stature among 60's blues rock / psych listeners & collectors with a mix of electric blues drenched originals & a couple of choice covers from The Kinks & Little Walter / Otis Rush. This reissue is a spot-on repro (with a couple typo corrections) of the Parallax Records release and has been tweaked for vinyl using the band's re-masters from their self-released reissue a few years back on CD. This will be an LP edition of 500 copies and is Volume Two in their ongoing Music From Ohio Series. Sounds of the City Experience - s/t (Jazzman) Soul and funk from the early 70s from this multi-racial band out of the Bronx. These guys played for fun, understanding and mutual respect - no pressure from the record company to make a hit record = positive vibes and freedom. In Jazzman's reissue of the highly-sought after LP on notorious tax-scam label Tiger Lily, Jazzman interviews producer Mario Sprouse and finds out exactly why this album is so rare. They discover and disclose the story behind the band and why they made these high-quality recordings which were never intended for release. The CD includes 3 previously-unreleased bonus tracks and comes with a 16-page full-color booklet. Triptides - Predictions (Stroll On) Local psych-rockers release a damn fine new album! "Seeming to completely grasp how to use the studio as an instrument, Triptides slice together garage-punk, elements of psych and 60s West Coast pop." - Clash Magazine "Listening to the 13 tracks on this album is like taking a visit through 3 separate yet connected eras of pop/rock music. In Triptides' sound I hear very early Love and The Leaves from the 60s, 80s Paisley Underground bands such as The Rain Parade and Plasticland, and current acts along the lines of both Tame Impala and The Allah-Las." - Psychedelic Baby The Walker Brothers - Nite Flights LP (Tizona) When Scott Walker set to work on the 3rd post-comeback Walker Brothers album in 1978, he had been all but silent as a songwriter since the 60s, when his peculiarly twisted post-pop visions sent solo album after solo album hurtling into a commercial void. Nite Flights sees him reaching back into that abyss, emerging with 4 songs which not only realigned his entire future career, but also twisted the on-going landscape of rock music. Electro-pumping soundscapes of grandiose synth, these tracks were clearly inspired by Bowie's recent work with Iggy and Eno. But they took that role model so much further that within the year, they themselves were delineating much of what Bowie himself would accomplish on his own next two albums (Lodger and Scary Monsters). Midge Ure later confessed that "The Electrician" inspired him to write Ultravox's "Vienna," and, from there, one can project the entire synth-pop movement from Walker's presumably unwitting role models. A formative and essential piece not just for Scott Walker fans, but anyone interested in the continuum of musical visionaries and boundary-pushers. VA - I Heard the Angels Singing: Electrifying Black Gospel from The Nashboro Label 1951-1983 [4CD box] (Tompkins Square) A 4CD set housed in a deluxe gatefold LP sleeve with large format 16 page booklet. From the team that brought you the monumental Fire In My Bones : Raw + Rare + Otherworldly African-American Gospel, 1944-2007 and This May Be My Last Time Singing: Raw African-American Gospel On 45 RPM, 1957-1982. In this first licensed reissue of Nashboro material in decades, this highly influential music, a vital part of the fabric of American music, can finally be heard. Begun by Ernie Young in Nashville, TN, at the height of gospel's golden age, Nashboro was arguably the greatest, most prolific and longest-living gospel record label. Initial recordings were made on site. Those early Nashboro sides have all the excitement, energy and drive of far better-known indies from the 1950s such as Chess and Sun (indeed, Nashboro was parent to the infamous, blues-busting Excello label).
