Hiya! Our next coffee cupping event with Hopscotch Roasters and Uel Zing is coming up the first Sunday of February on Groundhog Day, the 2nd. They will be cupping their locally roasted beans and Landlocked will be playing full A-sides from new and upcoming releases on vinyl for all to hear. More details soon... Plan on stopping by! Save the date! Here is your first warning: Record Store Day 2014: Saturday April 19th. Yes, we already have plans in motion! You should, too. New Arrivals for January 14th .................................................. Backtrack - Lost in Life (Bridge 9) In their second LP, Backtrack has created a fist pumping, ground stomping hardcore record that holds true to their New York Hardcore roots. Lost In Life was produced by Nick Jett of Hardcore Legends TERROR and the band will be touring nonstop in support of Lost In Life. Mary Chapin Carpenter - Songs from the Movie (Rounder) A compelling orchestral reinvention of classic Mary Chapin Carpenter compositions. Collaborating with composer Vince Mendoza the album harkens to her love of classic film and symphonic music. Citing as inspiration such seminal film composers as Elmer Bernstein and Thomas Newman, and contemporary symphonic composers like Tobias Picker and Morten Lauridsen/ The result reprises 10 of Carpenter's songs in Mendoza's distinctively beautiful and cinematic arrangements to give the listener the continuum of a film soundtrack, albeit an imaginary one. Crystal Method - s/t (Tiny e) This is the 5th full length release and the 1st in five years from the Las Vegas originated dance duo featuring guest appearances from Leann Rimes and Nick Thayer. For all of the chemistry with other artists, it's a very personal affair for the group. Emerging from Scott Kirkland's brain surgery earlier this year, The Crystal Method signals the dawn of a new chapter for the group. Devour the Day - Time & Pressure (Fat Lady) Devour The Day define the future of contemporary rock. Blending a sound that balances power guitars with modern leaning programming, Devour the Day stormed onto the Active Radio chart with their debut single 'Good Man' - currently a Top 10 chart position with sustained airplay over the last 25 weeks of climbing the chart - and they have delivered a powerhouse of a debut record. Led by the creative/founding members of Egypt Central, Devour the Day is reshaping the rock landscape! Dynamite Hemorrhage - Issue #1 A definitive interview with Chris D. (Flesh Eaters), focused solely on 1977-80 LA punk; Slash magazine; Upsetter Records and his band. Retrospective and interview with Sally Skull, 1994-97 all female, criminally forgotten low-fidelity Scottish garage/art/punk band. Interviews with Sex Tide and Household, two of today's best bands working the raw minimalism circuit. Interview with the gentlemen from Bona Dish, an early 80s UK DIY band who've recently surfaced again thanks to a reissue of their cassette material. A comprehensive piece by the editor of F'n Record Reviews blog on various obscure 80s/90s fanzines. 56 record reviews, penned by Expressway To Yr Skull's Erika Elizabeth and editor Jay Hinman plus 17 (lengthy) book reviews. Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings - Give The People What They Want (Daptone) After more than a decade of nearly constant touring, recording, and as one of the most formidable and consequential live acts performing today, they know what their audience wants from them. This je ne sais quoi - that makes everyone from Prince to Beck to John Legend to Michael Buble to countless fans return again and again to the Dap sound - is found both on stage and in the recording booth. The ten tracks are what you've come to expect from the 11-piece band: the classic songwriting of We Get Along, the impressive energy of Retreat, and, solidified in Stranger To My Happiness; that kind of studio expertise that defines the band and their sound. It's those sharp, danceable funk grooves that stick to your bones; the fervent, impassioned singing that goes straight to your heart; and those sweet soul hooks that stay in your head for days on end. Stereo or Mono LP available, plus get a free bonus 45 w/ two more new songs with purchase! Lone Justice - Vaught Tapes 1983 (Omnivore) It can be difficult to capture the live power of band on a studio recording. Thankfully, Lone Justice went into Suite 16 Studios in December of 1983 and laid down much of the set list they were packing LA area clubs with. Recorded direct to 2-track tape by engineer David Vaught and with no overdubs, those 12 tracks can finally be heard in their entirety as The Vaught Tapes. As Billboard's Chris Morris writes in his liner notes, the release 'offers the best representation of the band in its infancy hot, full of piss & vinegar and ready to take on the world.' 9 of these 12 tracks are previously unissued. Bruce Springsteen - High Hopes (Columbia) High Hopes finds Bruce in a number of different musical settings, and includes the E Street Band members in various large and small combinations as well as guitarist Tom Morello on 8 tracks. Besides Morello, the album also includes appearances on several songs by Clarence Clemons, who passed away in 2011, and Danny Federici, who passed away in 2008, on what Springsteen calls "some of our best unreleased material from the past decade." The album was recorded in New Jersey, LA, Atlanta, Australia and NYC and marks Springsteen's 18th studio album. As Bruce writes in the albums liner notes, "I felt they were among the best of my writing and deserved a proper studio recording." Lucinda Williams - s/t [reissue] (Thirty Tigers) Lucinda Williams self-titled album Lucinda Williams, often referred to as The Rough Trade album, will be released as a 25th Anniversary Special Reissue on January 14, 2014. The album, originally released in 1988, has been out of print for 10 years. The package includes a remastered album along with a bonus disk containing an unreleased 1989 concert in Eindhoven, Netherlands, never before seen photos, and two new sets of liner notes. You Blew It! - Keep Doing What You're Doing (Topshelf) Produced by Evan Weiss of Into It. Over It. and engineered by Matt Jordan (Stay Ahead of the Weather, Cut Teeth) at Atlas Studios in Chicago, Keep Doing What You're Doing sees You Blew It! dialing back on their more raw influences to create complex song structures, intricate guitar lines and cleaner vocals with a healthy dose of fuzz riding over it all.
