He is considered to be "one of the most politically trenchant, culturally influential, and innovative artists of the 20th century," writing 18 novels and 6 short story collections. Bloomington is celebrating his genius with a festival of film, music, art, writings, academia and more. Landlocked is proud to sponsor performances from no-wave legend Lydia Lunch on Feb 7th and Negativland's Mark Hosler on Feb 5th, both at The Bishop. We have tix on sale for both at Landlocked. Check out these and many more cool events happening in town at the website for The Burrough Century. See you there! Save the date! Record Store Day 2014: Saturday April 19th. New Arrivals for January 28th .................................................. David Crosby - Croz (Blue Castle) Croz is David Crosby's first studio album in over 20 years, a collection of 11 new tracks from one of America's most notable singer-songwriters and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. Croz also features guest appearances from Wynton Marsalis, Mark Knopfler, Leland Sklar and Steve Tavaglione. Morgan Delt - s/t (Trouble in Mind) Equal parts Zombies and Red Krayola, Morgan Delt's debut LP brings forth a fully realized glimpse into the California native's twisted brain. Morgan cites influences from The Association to West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band and rounds it out with golden age sunset stip heavies like The Byrds and Love. It's all in there; obsessively studied, mastered and then mutated. RIYL: Flaming Lips, Ariel Pink, Thee Oh Sees, White Fence, Troggs, Ty Segall, Syd Barrett. The Districts - s/t (Fat Possum) With comparisons to My Morning Jacket, Pixies, Ryan Adams, Cold War Kids and Spoon, this Lancaster County, PA foursome have recently signed to Fat Possum Records. Fresh out of high school, the band has perfected their own brand of authentic, soulful rock music. They first came to nationwide attention when a one-take performance of their track "Funeral Beds" was filmed at a local Philly studio and skyrocketed to the front page of Reddit, with WNYC noting that the song "Showcased an impressive knack for memorable vocals and for song craft that starts as introspective indie rock and builds to a climatic wall of noise. Drowners - s/t (Frenchkiss) Drowners' debut album is a crash course through the evolution of New York Rock n Roll swagger. 12 songs of guitar driven, sheer heart attack induced, assault on the ears. Otherwise, it's quite an enjoyable journey. For fans of the Strokes, the Libertines, as well as the Smiths, to mention a few. Dum Dum Girls - Too True (Sub Pop) Too True is the third full-length by Dum Dum Girls. It was recorded in late-2012 and early-2013 by producers Richard Gottehrer (Blondie, Go-Gos) and Sune Rose Wagner (of the Raveonettes), with Alonzo Vargas engineering at East West Studios in Hollywood. Bonus 7" w/ purchase! Colored vinyl loser edition available tomorrow! Sky Ferreira - Night Time, My Time (Capitol) This release will be a deluxe 2 disc set (priced at single disc price). It's going to be the physical release of her album "Night Time, My Time" - with bonus material. This is Sky Ferreira's debut album on Capitol Records. It features the single "You're Not The One". The LP was produced by Ariel Rechtshaid, coproduced by Justin Raisen, and executive produced by Ferreira herself. Gem Club - In Roses (Hardly Art) In Roses is the 2nd album from Massachusetts based Gem Club was recorded at Tiny Telephone, John Vanderslice's studio. Gem Club worked along with arranger and conductor Minna Choi of the Magik Markers Orchestra to create and reshape the melancholy songs in fresh and unimaginable ways. The resulting album is more expansive, more majestic, and yet retains the intimacy of Gem Club's previous works. In Roses combines beauty and sadness with intimate and graceful songs about the realization that life is no longer happening the way we want. In Roses provides solace in song. Habibi - s/t (Burger) Habibi's songs are heavily influenced by Motown girl groups of the 1960s, but I wouldn't mistake their retro-centricity for nostalgia. The all-female all-business Brooklyn-based band would rather live in a time when music wasn't defined by gender, surely—but their respect for the ladies who paved the way for their Wall-of-Sound sound is epic. Hospitality - Trouble (Merge) Trouble is an album that wonders about the mysteries that lurk just beyond our field of vision. Slyly and sympathetically, they ponder a Saturday afternoon fishing trip as a wrenching interplay of life and death, the perfect blue sky at an air show as a setting for a soured romance. Papini elaborates: "Most of the songs are about everyday environments that arouse anxiety or unease. The ocean isn't meant for people; we aren't supposed to be there, and some of the animals that live there are much bigger and faster than we are in the water." Iain Matthews - The Art of Obscurity (Omnivore) While probably best remembered in the US for his 1978 smash 'Shake It', Iain has been a worldwide music icon for over 45 years. Whether as a founding member of Fairport Convention or as a solo artist, he has taken listeners on a journey with each recording. This is Iain's first American album in 15 years. Recorded in his adopted home of Austin with producer Bradley Kopp (Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely), this 12 track release highlights Matthews' knack for acoustic folk with jazzy undertones capped off by his rich singing voice and reflective and insightful lyrics. The New Medicants - Into the Lime (Ashmont) So you were expecting what from The New Mendicants, the grouping of Teenage Fanclub's Norman Blake, Joe Pernice of The Pernice Brothers and The Sadies' drummer Mike Belisky? A techno album? An excursion into drum and bass? Speed Metal, perhaps? To complain about the predictability of jangling, chiming guitars, glorious harmonies and an iron grasp of joyous melodies so firm as to turn coal into diamonds in a matter of seconds is to grumble that the sun rises in the morning or that summer follows spring with a tedious regularity. This a welcome shot of vitamin D in the cruelest month of the year where summer seems to be an eternity away while the filling of tax return forms only adds to the harshness of January. Tara Jane O'Neil - Where Shine New Lights (Kranky) The hum of Tara Jane O'Neil's 6-string is one of life's perennial comforts, and the words that pour from her honeyed throat feel as steady as the passing of time. Once of fabled post-rock group Rodan, a sometime collaborator with Mount Eerie and Sebadoh, O'Neill's new album sounds both settled and intensely familiar. Largely comprised of cyclical compositions that plateau blissfully, but there's moments of traditional songcraft, a gentle lullaby with finger-picked melody and a sweetly cooed vocal. Whether writing songs or constructing soundscapes, she's an expert in painting moods, and on the closer, haunting cymbals shimmer under crisp guitar lines in tender farewell. -NME. RIYL Grouper, Low, Kranky. Pack A.D. - Do Not Engage (Nettwerk) Do Not Engage reunites The Pack A.D. with Detroit producer Jim Diamond (White Stripes, Electric Six, Dirtbombs), a friend-turned-collaborator who insisted upon working behind the boards for Unpersons a record that would go on to earn the band its first Juno Award nomination in 2013 for Breakthrough Group Of The Year and has proven himself something of an ideal ghost third member by coaxing Black and Miller to their finest work yet. Uncle Tupelo - No Depression [deluxe] (Legacy) Released in 1990, No Depression is a genuine milestone, a striking fusion of traditional folk and country with post punk innovation and hardcore ferocity. The album struck a loud, twangy chord, inspiring countless bands as well as a magazine that served to both forward and document the thriving musical movement that came to be known as alt-country. Audiences lauded the fusion of hardcore punk and traditional country, as well as evocative lyrics that tackled the starkness of small-town middle America and the relationships formed there. Before long, acts like the Old 97's, Whiskeytown and Drive-By Truckers were counting Uncle Tupelo as a major musical influence, turning No Depression into the unintentional benchmark of the genre. Twenty-two rarities are included on this 2-CD package, including the 10-song 1989 demo of stripped-down tracks that propelled the band to even greater heights. Vaadat Charigim - The World Is Well Lost (Warm Ratio) It's handy enough to think of Vadaat Charigim as the "Israeli shoegaze band," but that's also unfairly reductive. Sure, there are bendy guitars and walls of fuzz - just listen to their debut album The World Is Well Lost below - but you'll also find the springy sound of Slumberland Records, and the vocal swoon of Morrissey mixed up with the punk-punk'ed hum of Ian Curtis. And sure, this trio is from Tel Aviv, but they're perfectly at home on California cassette bastion Burger Records, or Indy's Warm Ratio.
