Thanks to everyone for an awesome 8th birthday weekend! On saturday, Thee Tsunamis put on a great show to a packed house to launch their brand new EP. Sunday's bad weather didn't slow us down as Uel Zing poured delicious Hopscotch Coffee and we played new release A-sides. Monday was the wild cherry on top as the Dap-Kings spent their day off droppin funky bombs from the LL turntables as the band mingled with everyone enjoying their Rainbow Bakery cupcakes (lemon rosemary, chocolate salted caramel, mocha, and WAFFLE!) and Upland brewskis! Thanks to Thee Tsunamis, Daptone Records, Sam at Uel Zing, all the helpers and YOU! Lets try for 8 more years eh? New Arrivals for March 4th .................................................. Thee Tsunamis - Dark Waters And Delirium 7" (Magnetic South) Do you like rock'n'roll? Do you like GREEN vinyl? These three Bloomington gals are likely to leave you more scorched than soggy when their wave crashes on the beach. Six string dynamite exploding with a touch of twang, plus plenty of scream and skronk to make the surfers drop their boards and run for cover. Drive By Truckers - English Oceans (ATO) The band's 12th release and first in 4 years, is an elegantly balanced and deeply engaged new effort that finds the group refreshed and firing on all cylinders. 'It can go from this chainsaw rock 'n' roll to this very delicate, pretty-sounding stuff,' says Mike Cooley. English Oceans was recorded over 13 sessions in Athens, GA with their longtime producer, David Barbe. Cooley fans will be happy that he brought six new songs to the sessions and this record marks the first time that Cooley sings a song penned by Patterson Hood on 'Til He's Dead or Rises.' Real Estate - Atlas (Domino) Ridgewood, NJ's Real Estate took a mighty leap forward on their last go-around... more record sales... bigger shows... and, more importantly, a timeless classic of an album, Days. It's been two years since the release of Days, and it's an album that still sounds as fresh today as it did on release date. Their new album, Atlas, builds upon the lush guitar warmth of Days while adding more powerful harmonies and keyboard flourishes bringing even more depth to their heart-warming sound. Nick Waterhouse - Holly (Innovative Leisure) Nick was born in 1986 and grew up in Huntington Beach, known predominantly for surf culture and tanning salons. He established his musical sensibilities in the middle of the burgeoning southern California Psych-Garage scene (Burger Tapes, Ty Segall) while retaining his unique perspective on the spirit of American Rhythm & Blues and Rock & Roll. These days, Waterhouse is a successful recording artist, with one well-received LP and and several high-profile tours to his name. His latest work, Holly, is a more mature take on the style of his early foray. The Men - Tomorrow's Hits (Sacred Bones) Their first album recorded in a high-end studio and, appropriately, the result is their most high fidelity album to date. That being said, it is still an incredibly straightforward record. Tomorrow's Hits is a concise collection of songs that nonetheless expands the band's ever-evolving musical palette. It's an album full of genre-bending risks, but it reinforces the overarching theme that has come to define its makers: The Men are a great rock band. Bob Dylan - 30th Anniversary Concert Celebration (Legacy) On October 16, 1992, an impressive and eclectic group of artists gathered at Madison Square Garden in NYC for the purpose of celebrating the music of Dylan on occasion of his 30th anniversary of recording. Bringing together musical greats as far-flung as Johnny Cash and Eddie Vedder, Clancy Brothers and Lou Reed, the 4 hour show celebrated a truly remarkable lifetime of songs. Warmly dubbed the Bobfest by participant Neil Young, the show was broadcast around the world and featured a cast of musical notables performing carefully chosen and often surprising selections from the incomparable Dylan songbook. Eagulls - s/t (Partisan) Brash and opinionated, short and sharp, fast and furious, Leeds punk five piece Eagulls are the missing link in your record collection between post-punk and slacker rock, and every bit as essential as that description may sound. Since forming in 2009, they have become synonymous with a discontented, disillusioned kind of anger, molded into bullets of post punk that's rife with urgency and aggression. Eternal Summers - The Drop Beneath (Kanine) The Drop Beneath is the follow up to 2012's Correct Behavior. This is the third LP from Roanoke, Virginia based power-pop, dream-punk trio Eternal Summers. Album produced by Doug Gillard (Guided by Voices, Nada Surf). Holly Golightly and the Brokeoffs - All Her Fault (Transdreamer) Holly has made over 20 albums and appeared on countless more, but she never had a recording experience like this one. Golightly and her partner Lawyer Dave spent nearly six months on the project. But don't expect it to sound radically different from their earlier releases. It's still a raw, rough-hewn stew of twisted roots music forged by the duo's distinct musical interests - she listens to late 50s/early 60s R&B and he loves rocknroll. Trust - Joyland (Arts & Crafts) Trust is the musical project of Toronto artist Robert Alfons. After years of extensive touring, and garnering glowing praise from top international critics at Pitchfork, VICE, and The Guardian UK for the 2012 Juno-nominated debut album TRST, the follow up album Joyland is being released by Arts & Crafts. Joyland is an eruption of guts, eels, and joy. Linda Perhacs - The Soul of All Natural Things (Asthmatic Kitty) Linda Perhacs' Parallelograms was created in the heart of hippy country, LA's Topanga Canyon, by a dental hygienist who was inspired by nature and by the cultural revolution going on around her. When it was finished, it sounded like a masterpiece, but the label had pressed it so poorly, sales were non-existent. Obscurity beckoned. But in the internet age obscurity can be discreetly transformed into a kind of niche immortality. By 2003, Parallelograms had become a cult album. And slowly, Perhacs began making music again. The Revivalists - City of Sound (Wind Up) The Revivalists have earned their reputation as one of the next breakout bands from New Orleans. The group's blend of soulful, syncopated rock and earnest songwriting comes to life through meticulously crafted and ever-evolving live performances. They've spent the last few years touring all over the country alongside, Gov't Mule, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Galactic, Moon Taxi, to name a few. City of Sound was recorded in New Orleans by Producer Ben Ellman (Galactic, Trombone Shorty). Tape & Vinyl & Print Zone ..................................................
