Didja hear the news? Jack White's Third Man Rolling Record Store is stopping by Landlocked on this coming Saturday, April 12th from Noon-7PM! Come by and check out the awesomeness while you are out enjoying your spring weekend at WIUX Culture Shock (https://www.facebook.com/events/514021185382044/) with Mac Demarco or enjoying a lazy saturday afternoon at Landlocked! On Sunday April 12th at 3:30pm we are hosting a co-album-release showcase from locals Bad Psychic ("Soon" LP out now on Sygil) and Drekka ("Ekki gera fikniefnum" LP out now on Dais). Both artists explore a darker terrain and we are pleased to see em both on our stage. This and all of our instores are Free and All-ages! And of course parking is free downtown on Sundays. Want to be first in line on Record Store Day? Now til April 14th, if you spend $25 or more at Landlocked, you can enter to win one of 3 places at the front of the queue on RSD! Furthermore, after we draw the winners, we will tally all the receipts and donate a portion of those sales to Rhino's Youth Center. Rhino's will also be on hand on RSD screening our commemorative shirts. If you are 21+, you are also cordially invited to the Upland Vinyl Tap Rye Pale Ale release party (http://www.facebook.com/events/602903846454241/) at Upland's Banquet Hall behind the 11th Street brewpub on Friday April 11th from 5-8pm. Music trivia, prizes, and delicious libations galore! All this helps fund Lotus Blossoms in area schools. Can't make it? Its OK, we're licensed and tapping some Vinyl Tap on RSD at Landlocked, too. What else on RSD? We will be having live performances from Aurora Dorey Alice (Inside Outside tape on Sygil), 220 Breakers (local outlaw country your momma warned you about), and Mike Adams at His Honest Weight (new LP out -very soon- on Flannelgraph/Joyful Noise! Plus DJ sets from Stephen Deusner (Writer at Salon, Pitchfork, Paste), Shelly Westerhausen (Retail & Domestic Account Manager Secretly Canadian Distribution), Nate Gibson (Author of The Starday Story: The House That Country Music Built), and Jim Manion (WFHB Music Director). Precise times next week! Record Store Day Saturday April 19th * Hundreds of special releases for RSD (http://www.recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases) * Win a chance to be first in line on RSD! * Songs:Ohia crossbow t-shirt "reissue" (http://landlockedmusic.com/img/ohiashirt.jpg) * Upland's Vinyl Tap Rye Pale Ale + Lotus Blossoms fundraiser * Live performances from Aurora Dorey Alice, 220 Breakers, Mike Adams at His Honest Weight - plus DJ sets from Jim Manion, Nate Gibson, Stephen Deusner, and Shelly Westerhausen * Check back next week for more news! ** New Arrivals for April 8th ------------------------------------------------------------ ** Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - Enter the Slasher House (Domino) ------------------------------------------------------------ A group of three hippies on a road trip through the backwaters of 2013's rural music scene fall prey to a murderous cannibalistic band, including a leather-masked, guitar-wielding Avey Tare (Animal Collective), his knife-wielding keyboard player Angel Deradoorian (Dirty Projectors), and their cannibal chief drummer and decaying grandfather Jeremy Hyman (Ponytail, Dan Deacon). ** Protomartyr - Under Color of Official Right (Hardly Art) ------------------------------------------------------------ Protomartyr's taut, austere rock was incubated in a freezing Detroit warehouse littered with beer cans and cigarette butts and warmed, feebly, by space heaters. Despite the cold, they emerged with a sound that is idiosyncratic but relatable, hooky but off-kilter, and economical in a way that elicits comparisons to possible antecedents like Pere Ubu or The Fall as well as contemporaries like Frustrations or Tyvek - all of which have combined here to make one stunner of a sophomore album. Playing at The Bishop on June 5th! ** Todd Terje - Its Album Time (Olsen) ------------------------------------------------------------ Terje has been responsible for chart-topping, dance-floor melodies of tracks since the early days of disco's return with "Eurodans," "Inspector Norse" and "Snooze 4 Love". He's remixed Brian Ferry, Hot Chip and production for Franz Ferdinand gathering him supporters like James Murphy, Nile Rodgers, Jon Hopkins and A-Trak. Todd is stepping up alongside the legends as one of the most prolific dance mavericks of the electronic underground scene today. This is his full length debut. ** Tweens - s/t (Frenchkiss) ------------------------------------------------------------ Tweens only formed in 2012, but has already made a name for themselves among fans-including The Breeders, who invited the band to open for them on a recent US tour. The story goes that Kim Deal booked the band for one gig on the recommendation of Jim Blaze, owner of Cincinnati record shop Shake It, and was so impressed she brought them to play East Coast gigs and a full West Coast tour. Additionally, the band toured with the Black Lips, their partners in a party-centric attitude. ** Off! - Wasted Years (Vice) ------------------------------------------------------------ Combining reckless improvisational energy with the combined skills of four deadly sharp musicians (vocalist Keith Morris, guitarist Dimitri Coats, bassist Steven McDonald, and drummer Mario Rubalcaba), OFF! have dug down through a decades' worth of accumulated stylistic garbage, and rediscovered the stripped down core of noise, speed, and rock & roll that punk seemed to have lost forever. Their third full-length studio recording, Wasted Years, is the most direct and unprocessed embodiment of OFF!'s mission yet. ** Phantom Family Halo - Raven Town Witch LP (Sophomore Lounge) ------------------------------------------------------------ Louisville's own. "Phantom Family Halo's "Raven Town Witch" is a slinky and sinister Southern Gothic brew evoking early glam, psychedelia ala Krautrockers Brainticket, hand claps reminiscent of 60s girl groups, Roxy Music's "In Every Dream Home a Heartache," and yet somehow manages to remain unpredictably timeless. The perfect record for the party after the after party or a raucous late night ritual in celebration of your inner witch." - Lydia Lunch ** Patton Oswalt - Tragedy Plus Comedy Equals Time CD+DVD (Comedy Central) ------------------------------------------------------------ Performing for a packed house at Spreckels Theater in San Diego, comedian Patton Oswalt delivers a blistering stand-up set in his trademark blend of acerbic wit and unabashed silliness. His topics range from the future of our nation to daddy/daughter outings gone wrong to the scope of humor in Germany. Patton will be performing at the Limestone Comedy Festival (http://limestonefest.com/) this coming May! ** Screaming Females - Live at the Hideout (Don Giovanni) ------------------------------------------------------------ "What attracted me to punk rock when it first exploded was that it was unpredictable and that no two bands had very much in common. Each band committed itself to a unique set of ideas, and it didn't matter what other bands were doing or what the audience might expect. Screaming Females are that same kind of wide-open punk rock, from before it condensed into a style and every band had to be taken on its own terms. They are a great band and I hope they keep going forever." - Steve Albini ** Heathers - Kingdom (Big3) ------------------------------------------------------------ Irish folk duo formed in 2007 around the talents of the then 17-year old Dublin-based twin sister Louise and Ellie Macnamara. Their penchant for sharp melodies, tight, constant harmonizing, and punk-infused delivery caught the ear of local DIY label Plan-It-X, resulting in the release of their 2008 debut album Here Not There, followed by a tour with punk-folk band Ghost Mice. Kingdom was nominated for a Choice Music Prize - the Irish equivalent of the Grammy or Mercury Awards, while their single "Forget Me Knots" has been nominated in the Irish Song Of The Year Category. ** Highasakite - Silent Treatment (Propeller) ------------------------------------------------------------ Sophomore release from the Norwegian indie band. Highasakite consists of main songwriter Ingrid Helene Havik (vocals), Trond Bersu (drums), Oystein Skar (synths), Marte Eberson (synths) and Kristoffer Lo (guitar). Features the single 'Since Last Wednesday'. "...ascendantly warm indie rock, with hints of early Vampire Weekend" - Stereogum "Beautiful music from Highasakite... this was a crazy band! I Loved it!" - Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) ** Eric Hutchinson - Pure Fiction (Lets Break) ------------------------------------------------------------ Pure Fiction is Hutchinson's elegy to Pop music, a place to fit all those melodies that are so comforting in their immediate hook, you could swear you heard them before. Someone must have already raised the Gospel pleading of 'Forever' or the choral Na-Na's that herald 'Tell the World', the record's first single. It is a striking prologue to the album's underlying theme - holding on to the best moments in life and shamelessly shouting it from a mountain top. ** The Faint - Doom Abuse (SQE) ------------------------------------------------------------ Things that don't make sense at first often make sense later; In the creation of art, when the process is left up to the subconscious mind, when there is no preconceived concept, patterns still always emerge. Themes and recurring images, blurred in the moment later become clear. This is the case with The Faint's sixth album Doom Abuse, an unexpected but also inevitable addition to their compellingly unusual catalogue of music. ** Tape & Vinyl & Print Zone ------------------------------------------------------------ Bent Wind - Sacred Cows 7" (Ugly Pop) Danny Brown - Old LP (Fools Gold) Mikal Cronin / Wand - split 7" (LAMC) Mary Ocher - Eden tape/LP (Buback) Rajayttajat - Tulee Ta 7" (White Denim) Reigning Sound - Live at Goner 06.26.05 LP (Goner) Jonathan Richman - No Me Quejo De Mi Estrella LP (Munster) DM Stith - War Machine 7" flexi (Joyful Noise) Yip Deceiver - Slide Away 7" flexi (Joyful Noise) ** Also Released This Week ------------------------------------------------------------ Denney and the Jets - Mexican Coke (Burger) Emmylou Harris - Wrecking Ball [deluxe 2CD+DVD] (Nonesuch) Wilko Johnson / Roger Daltrey - Going Back Home (Hip-O) Sweet Apple - The Golden Age Of Glitter (Tee Pee) Jozef Van Wissem / Squrl (Jarmusch) - Only Lover Left Alive (ATP) Your Friend - Jekyll / Hyde EP (Domino) ** Upcoming Concerts ------------------------------------------------------------ Hey out-of-towners and home-bodies!
