Black Keys - Turn Blue (Nonesuch) Produced by Danger Mouse, Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney, and features 11 tracks including the first single, "Fever". The band says Turn Blue could refer to: Suffocation, Sadness, Numbness from extreme cold, a Cleveland late night TV host from the 1960s named Ghoulardi, All of the above. Moreover, Carney comments, "We are always trying to push ourselves when we make a record not repeat our previous work but not abandon it either. On this record, we let the songs breathe and explored moods, textures and sounds. We re excited for the world to hear Turn Blue." Swans - To Be Kind (Young God) The Swans are: Michael Gira, Norman Westberg, Christoph Hahn, Phil Puleo, Thor Harris, Christopher Pravdica. Special Guests for this record include: Little Annie; St. Vincent; Cold Specks; Bill Rieflin. Recorded by John Congleton. Available as 2CD, 3LP or deluxe M Gira autographed 2CD+DVD! Mirah - Changing Light (K) On her fifth solo album, Mirah breaks it down and builds it back up again with the street smarts that only years behind the wheel of love can inspire. Ready with the maps and driven to the rhythms on the radio dial, Changing Light's ten songs carry us from heartbreak to wholeness and all the places in between. Playing at the Bishop on May 18! Kishi Bashi - Lighght (Joyful Noise) Violinist, singer, and composer Kishi Bashi presents 2014 album. Entitled Lighght (pronounced "Light"), the album continues and expands the sound of his critically acclaimed debut, 151a - which earned Kishi Bashi the title of "Best New Artist" by NPR. Since the profoundly successful release of 151a, Kishi Bashi toured relentlessly, captivating audiences across the globe with his loop-based live show, and fostering a groundswell of devotees. Pains of Being Pure at Heart - Days of Abandon (Yebo) Brooklyn Indie Pop stalwarts The Pains of Being Pure at Heart presents their eagerly anticipated third LP entitled Days of Abandon after two critically-acclaimed records that demonstrated the group's ability to shift musical registers from bedroom pop daydreams to Alternative Nation anthems. Tobacco - Ultima II Massage (Ghostly) On his third album, Tobacco, the Pennsylvania snake-synth-charmer deepens his approach to aural depravity. At 17 tracks, Ultima is stacked with beautifully perverse hits from the sickly sticky "Eruption," to the wobbly demon swaggerer "Face Breakout," to the distorted punk spazz of "Dipsmack," to the apocalyptic sepia ambience of "Spitlord." You may hear disembodied bits of Boards of Canada, early Def Jam records, and GaryNuman, or maybe just public-access TV and bad VHS dubs of '80s horror flicks. Or the sunexploding and everything you've ever loved melting. Dolly Parton - Blue Smoke (Sony) Singer, songwriter, musician, actress and philanthropist Dolly Parton is proud to release her new album "Blue Smoke." The album reflects the character of the Smoky Mountains in Tennessee where Dolly grew up and has a tone that harkens back to her rootsy, back-to-basics albums. "Blue Smoke" is an all new studio album with most tracks written by Dolly that also features duets with Willie Nelson and Kenny Rogers and covers of Bon Jovi's "Lay Your Hands On Me," and Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice." According to All Music, The remarkable thing is how satisfying an album this is: it sounds good and the songs are sturdy, proof that Parton is far from resting on her laurels. Sturgill Simpson - Metamodern Sounds in Country Music (Hightop Mtn) Metamodern Sounds in Country Music is the follow-up to Sturgill Simpson's critically acclaimed debut, High Top Mountain. The album title - an allusion to Ray Charles groundbreaking 1962 record, Modern Sounds in Country and Western Music - hints at the psychedelic sounds found within. Compared to Waylon Jennings and Merle Haggard, Simpson explores a more progressive side of outlaw country in his wholly unique and captivating second album. La Sera - Hour of the Dawn (Hardly Art) In the summer of 2013, La Sera decamped to a sweltering studio in East Los Angeles with engineer Joel Jerome and banged out the ten songs that would become Hour of the Dawn an album that never walks, but runs; a collision of unleashed punk and '80s power-pop. Hour of the Dawn, as its title suggests, heralds the beginning of a radiant and energetic new chapter in the evolution of La Sera. Hour of the Dawn is La Sera's third full-length release for Hardly Art. Little Dragon - Nabuma Rubberband (Republic) The release of Little Dragon's fourth album, Nabuma Rubberband, is the culminating moment in their career after years of building a grassroots fanbase. The zeitgeist band that blend strands of R&B, electronic and indie into beautifully and meaningfully crafted songs. Little Dragon has steadily grown from being the biggest underground secret to international acclaim after three successful albums and touring all over the world. Chromeo - White Women (Big Beat) Presenting the Canadian funk lords fourth album White Women. As a work of cultural theory, it posits that we are living in a post-nostalgia age. All previous genres and styles of music now coexist within a singularity of moves and gestures. More importantly, as pure entertainment, White Women perpetuates and elevates Chromeo's existing blueprint: sexy funk, ass-targeting beats, melodic honey, and smart lyrics about the foibles of contemporary love. Hunterchild - s/t (Temporary Residence) Hunterchild started as an unknown group from an unlikely town began generating the kind of "next big thing" blog buzz that eventually leads to a big label bidding war, support slots on major tours, and unanimous praise. For Bloomington, Indiana's Dreamers of the Ghetto, it resulted in a divorce and a devastating break-up. Singer Luke Aaron Jones and fellow DOTG alum Marty Sprowles picked up the pieces and pared down the widescreen stadium-sized rock of Dreamers to the more intimate, introspective Hunterchild. Amen Dunes - Love (Sacred Bones) Damon McMahon (aka Amen Dunes) chose to hold the main recording sessions in Montreal with Dave Bryant and Efrim Menuck of Godspeed You! Black Emperor. In addition to recording the sessions that McMahon produced, members of Godspeed also played on several of the songs, along with Colin Stetson on saxophone and Elias Bender-Ronnenfelt of Iceage, who duets with McMahon on two tracks. The result is definitively the most substantial Amen Dunes record to date. These are elemental songs about time, love and memory, as much about the listener as they are about the writer: pure, open, and beautiful. Tori Amos - Unrepentant Geraldines (Mercury) "I've always been inspired by visual artists of all mediums because, as with Music, Art is not a job you can go to and leave from; but it is something that defines who and what you are. Visual artists shake up our brains and force us to look at everything, from objects we don't normally think twice about to people we might not have cared about. In one image they can remind us of Nature's power to enchant, as well as humankind's fruitless attempt to overpower her or simply second-guess her. Through the Visual Artist's application of tone, shape, pattern, and pigment I not only begin to see, but I can honestly say I begin to hear." - Tori Amos - Deluxe CD+DVD also available! Major Lazer - Apocalypse Soon EP (Secretly Canadian) Major Lazer presents their first official release of 2014, the Apocalypse Soon EP, via Secretly Canadian/Mad Decent. This chapter begins where Major Lazer, led by Grammy nominated Diplo, left off in 2013. Once again, Major Lazer has recruited some of the biggest names in music to collaborate on the 5 track EP including Pharrell Williams and Sean Paul as well as Machel Montano, RDX, Moska and Mr. Fox. Mimicking Birds - Eons (Glacial Pace) Nate Lacy spent the years since his teens exploring his inner world and his connection with the universe at large. These days, Lacy is focusing his gaze further outward, exploring what he calls "the infinite and the infinitesimal," while also keeping lyrical watch on the crossroads where our digital future and our pastoral past bump up against each other. Few are there artists who are able to bring such thorny and thoughtful issues to bear in their music, but that is just one of the many reasons that EONS, the new album from Mimicking Birds, is so very special. Sylvan Esso - s/t (Partisan) Sylvan Esso is a collaboration between vocalist Amelia Meath and electronic musician Nick Sanborn. Meath's powerful voice is front and center, unjoined by fellow harmonizers as it is in her folk group, Mountain Man. Sanborn, who plays bass in the genre-destroying Megafaun, creates intricate, pulsing grooves for Meath's voice to inhabit. Their self-titled debut a collection of vivid addictions concerning suffering and love, darkness and deliverance arrives as a necessary pop balm, an album stuffed with songs that don't suffer the longstanding complications of that term. Dave Van Ronk - Live in Monterey (Omnivore) The Mayor Of MacDougal Street shines in a 1998 performance. Dave Van Ronk was one of those men. While regarded as a pioneer of the folk-blues movement which took over Greenwich Village in the late 1950s-he could not be tied to just one genre. He moved between ballads to jazz to rock. His finger-picking style of guitar playing is still studied and emulated. Tape & Vinyl & Print Zone ..................................................
